You are in control of your own daily life and of your limited means. That's invaluable. Priceless. No lady should ever let a man have control of her life in the ways this man offers. France isnt even important in this proposal. You should not walk across the street to accept an offer like this one. Doesn't matter how lovely he might be. Take care and be happy! You have Freedom to be yourself, to do what you like.
Congratulations for choosing your heart's passion over a proposal, for being a friend first and client second for that kind boutique owners, for getting invited to French Riviera, for celebrating 3 years in your lovely French apartment... wow, Janice, your life rocks! 🥰
I think you made the right decision about not wanting to move in with this gentleman. I am also a teacher with a pension and I would never put my pension in jeopardy by marrying someone else. A friend of mine lost her pension in a divorce when she married late in life and things didn’t work out. She became seriously ill and passed away from the stress. At this point in your life, I don’t think you need to take care of someone else if they become ill… my husband passed away this past year after a long illness with Parkinson’s so I know about stress and sadness.
I am curious, why would you lose a pension you earned because you married? I am truly curious, and would like to learn. Does this have something to do with having been a teacher? 😊 sorry about your friend.
He went after her pension during the divorce settlement, and won. She later developed ALS from the stress of the divorce. She worked her entire life for that pension and was never married before. She did not have a prenup. Men love females with a pension.
I'm 61 and love your videos. It is wonderful to see seniors with so much vibrancy and adventurous spirit. You let me see the possibilities for the next couple decades ahead. Happy 3 year Anniversary in your new home country.
You will love the South of France! It's so gorgeous here. I'm so sorry about that crazy experience you had with the clothing store and the letter. Social media presence can attract unstable and jealous people. And good for you for politely saying no to the marriage proposal and yes to your beautiful future in France!
Janice you’re an inspiration to all women. Congratulations on following your dreams and your 3 year anniversary there in France. You stuck it out and now you’ve made yourself a beautiful life with tons of admirers and lots of friends. Love your coffee talk. Sending hugs and love. 💕
France is your home and you can be free there. You can live your spirit there. You can live your your whole everything that you have and I’m so elated to see it on your face that about France because that’s healthier than doing something that you shouldn’t be doing.
Janice, I’m so sorry to hear about your week, especially about that person who sent the letter. But how lovely to hear what the owners said at the Blue Boutique and then giving you coffee & a chat. ❤ You’re building such a wonderful life with friends who truly care about you and will be there for you. Congratulations on 3 years!! Wishing you a fabulous time on the Riviera! 🇫🇷❣️
Ahhhh, Menton, the city of lemons and close to my heart. The village of Cassis, with little boats everywhere, the edge of the sea and the areas all around there, is just wonderful. The honey scent of mimosa infuses the air. The train along the Cinque Terre in Italy...all so delightful. Happy wanders! I think your decision is wise, though certainly difficult. Having found your way, to stand on your own and live YOUR dream is the best. Love to you, Janice.
Janice, I’m so glad you are staying true to who you are and following your bliss! And the person that wrote that letter - he/she is truly disturbed. It was a bit scary but also sad that someone would do this. You handled it very well. Keep living your good life Janice!
Janice you are so courageous! I am close to your age and remember your first videos and thought how is she going to make this work? Your France journey is a metaphor for us who have dreams in later life. I am so grateful to you for sharing the beautiful life you have created. Thank you
Janice, you made the right decision sometimes when you’re with other people no matter how much money no matter how much anything no matter whatever but if you’re following your own heart and to to be in France is better than almost anywhere in the world so France is good to you you’re good to it and you’re doing where you need to be because France is beautiful
I love that you are going down to the Riviera in February. It can be cool, but warmer than where you are & the best part is that you won’t be there during the screaming hot months! You will be so close to Italy. I hope you get to hop across the border. I’m sorry someone decided to defame you, but your followers & those who know you know that you are nothing like they said. Hold your head up high and keep on enjoying your wonderful life. 💕
Sweety that man has a hidden agenda trust me. Never give up your freedom or lifestyle for someone else. You are vibrant and full of life and I'm sure if you would leave everything for him you would become his nurse and maid. Good for you standing your ground!
Janice-I love the glasses and your haircut! Really looks great. and I think a reflex response that comes to the brain and heart quickly tells you all you need to know.
Hello Lovely, what a week you’ve had! Well done you for staying true to yourself. Enjoy the south of France C’est tres bien. You are enjoying your best life, bravo xx 😘
Love your sweater! The person who wrote that awful letter must be having a hard time in life. Always nice to get a proposal even if you didn't accept. I fully understand. Perhaps we will come up with a Plan B and move to France? Love your videos and look forward to your live and zoom! Thank you for sharing your life in France with us.
What a week! I am so very sorry about the spiteful letter! It was probably sent by someone who envies your life. You are so very sweet about it. We can only pray for someone like that whose desire is to bring hurt, pain and fear to others! I pity them. They must have a miserable existence. You were so wise in following your heart to remain in France. I don’t believe you would be content otherwise. 💓 I am so happy for your opportunity to go to the South of France in February! It will be wonderful! Many hugs, Ann 💓
MENTON is one of my goal places to live for either three months out of the year or permanently eventually. I’ve not yet decided! So looking forward to your videos.
Janice, so glad you are following your heart! Best decision. Someone else “not getting it” doesn’t make it any less true for YOU. Stay true to your dream!
I think you made the right decision. My grandmother was widowed and remarried soon afterwards when she was in her early 70s. I think she just hadn't been on her own since she was 19 and couldn't imagine it. She ended up taking care of her second husband for many years and it really restricted her life.
Your videos are very inspirational Janice. Love your genuine, positive balanced attitude and sense of humour. Your gentleman friend doesn't understand what makes your heart sing. His proposal seems to be more to fulfill his needs rather than yours. You made the right decision. You need to be free to live the life you want. Sounds like an element of jealousy has motivated the poison letter writer. What a waste of their time and energy! The person does not listen to your videos, because you've mentioned many times that you can look stylish on a budget with mix and match quality clothes using lay away. One question: How is Miss Kitty being looked after while you're away?
I have a company here called rover.com and the lady that watches Max if I can’t take him which I’m not sure yet there’s been some issues. She will look after kitty also.
There is a company called Bandolier who makes phone purses. They are really cute, you can mix and match leather, straps and hardware. Super practical and it would be pretty hard to lose.
Janice, Please do what is right for you. I’ve had the same issue with a gentleman that lives next door. I consider him a friend but I’ve been living alone since the passing of my spouse in 2009. I’m in the process of selling my jome in Maine and I’m working on getting a retirement visa for France. I’ve been here in Bordeaux for the month of Jan. and then back to the US for settlement and packing up. I am quite happy living alone ❤
Janice , good for you ,You know what you want and your are happy ❤ So sorry for you having to deal with a terrible terrible person, I bet they are doing it to others unfortunately, sending you lots of love❤❤

When I had a large phone I simply couldn’t come up with a way to carry it that worked for me …and therefore It was easy for me to set down and forget someplace. so I got the smallest iPhone there is and there is always a pocket it fits in !
Love the lipstick you have on at the beginning of this video. Can you please share the color and brand? Thank you for always being an inspiration to us seniors!
Well, thank you for subscribing. Now you know I’m having a girlfriend’s getaway this summer May, and June so check it out and see if you’re interested and if you are, we’re having a zoom meeting about it on Thursday evening
@@JaniceInFrance It’s just a beautiful costal city with an easy going vibe- it’s very walkable and the Old Town is great for strolling around and having a gelato. Although, idk, early spring may still be a bit cool for 🍦but still so nice. I’d drop my girls at a study abroad program and I’d rent a car and tour for 6 weeks while I waited for them, alone and with no real plans. I loved it! Monaco is just to your east and Cannes to the west- a beautiful drive along the coast in both directions. Of course, in the hot summer season, anytime I’ve been there, the beach 🏖️ had topless sunbathers 👙 so I was careful with any photos I sent home to my son.
Love your videos. I'm leaving for England the end of Feb. and I hope to spend some time in France end of March. This is my first time solo-traveling outside the US and I'm so excited to go and explore!
Janice, excited to hear about your trip to Menton! We were there for the absolutely amazing LEMON festival! Hope you are there for that? You need to get tix to the evening parade, it was so much fun!!! It rained and it still was packed in the stands! Look it up! And then I had a quick thought listening to this video, when you mentioned your "business"? You do not get an income though right? That would jeopardize your visa. Anyway I was worried. Enjoy your videos each week, admire you courage, brightness and genuine honesty. Thanks for sharing. We moved to southern france in 2023 and still settling in!
Yes, I’m going to be there for the lemon festival and we already have tickets and I’m going to be a niece for the carnival and we have tickets for that. This lady I’m going with is so organized and so sweet and so kind. I can’t wait to let all of you know the video and how it turned out. What was your best experience about the lemon festival?
Well I have never been a big parade fan so I did not know what to expect for that, but was so glad we got tix to the evening one! You get reserved seats in bleachers set up around the route, and that was best choice! The parade is in the dark so it's a lights show too ! Very entertaining. Buy then I also enjoyed the long square in center of town all done in these enormous stationary floats? All made from lemons! Wow! Couldn't stop taking pictures! Then the stroll through the old town was lovely and then we lucked out with a beautiful day and had lunch outdoors on the beachfront where the views of this charming city that is wedged between mountains and the sea! The Les Halles was a cute stop too. It will be fun! We spent 3 days.
@@katherron8789 wow thank you so much. I’m like you. I’m not a big parade fan but in the states you know you know pretty much what to expect because you’ve been there and you had them so many times. Although I have to admit, I was in California several years ago and had the pleasure of being at a Fourth of July parade and it was so cute like old Home parade. It was so fun but anyway, yes I can can’t wait to see it.
Cutest dog ever! Even if you did get clothes for free, and even if you had been married 5 times (not saying you do get clothes or were married multiple times) that’s not their business now is it? People can be mean and RUclipsrs expose themselves to trolls, etc…I agree, be careful-don’t share any personal information on these videos. Take care of you:) ❤
Oh gosh - I'm sorry about your phone! 😢... and why is that person so rude & nasty sending that ugly letter?! I'm sorry about that too. But you are resilient & a good person so to hell with them! Good vibes & love out to you!
Glad you stay in France where you belong ! Better to have friends that can help out and live alone , dont give up your independence....! You will love the trip to the south. Crazy expensive and crowded that part but very beutiful views. Also the train ride between Paris and Barcelona is pretty. Stay happy and safe 🥰🥰
Oh wow, another Atlanta girl thank you so much. I’m going to be in Atlanta in September. Maybe we could catch up and maybe have a little meet and greet
Glad you reported that letter to police! Always good to have a paper trail. Regarding renting an apartment in France; are the any type of rent control rules, especially for seniors? Also, did you find your apartment on your own, or did you go through an agent?
I came here in 2018 when I thought I was going to be retiring that year and I found this apartment. It was through a friend of a friend of a friend on Facebook if you can believe that, no there is no rent control for seniors, but they also cannot boot you out nor can they not rent to you because of your Age. France is very senior friendly.
Hi Janice I had the same kind of week...almost...some negative stuff and then a wonderful evening. My house is usually in order but this is was like a cyclone hit in a few areas and the cleanup is slow going. So sorry about that letter...hard to believe someone does not have anything better to do than go to trouble to defame you to a clothing store! Now thinking that is not so hard to believe given who is at the helm in our country. Meanwhile, gone are the days when men think that a woman will give up her heart's desire for them and their wealth. Not surprised you are not willing to give up your life in France but kudos anyway!
Janice, I think it's wonderful you've fallen in love with France and followed your dream to living there. I did want to ask you some questions about the healthcare there. I know it's great, but what does it cost monthly and how long before it kicked in? I've heard the bureaucracy is very slow and backed up - same as in the states in some areas. Would you be able to include what you pay monthly bc from what I've read it doesn't really seem like a savings from my premiums in the states, but maybe you get a lot more. Anyway, in one of your weekly youtubes, it would be great to see some info about that. Thanks and bonne chance with every aspect of your life there.
I’ll be very honest with you if you go to the RUclips person called An SCOTT postcards from our golden years she just did a video on it and she is very very good
I am a New Yorker living mostly in the Italian part of Switzerland, just north of Lake Como. Sounds like you will be in Liguria, the Italian Riviera. Very beautiful. I was in Paris in 1969. I was actually spat on bc a woman did not like my Pucci-esque dress, that I had made myself. So shocked by all your positive experiences there. And I even spoke French quite well at that time. Started to attend the Alliance Francaise, but I was treated so badly I had to stop. I guess times have changed. I would never go back to France, even tho I have ancestors going back to 16th century Paris, who left to settle Quebec, and there is a plaque on the site where they were born. Rue St. Honore.
Loved your vlog today. Try and get a copy of The Long Afternoon by Giles Waterfield. It's a true story. Fascinating and set in the 1900s in Menton. Have a great time.
Janice, you did the right thing by saying no to the proposal as the same happened to me a few years ago, I would have gone from Rags to Riches but I knew it was not for me and so I’m still on my own. When you mentioned the times of your video that will be live, what time will it be in the UK ? XX
There is a great video about Menton by a RUclips channel called French Vibes. The lady and her family live in a small nearby village called Gorbio. She takes her subscribers to places in and around the French Riviera.
I understand. It will have to be a small phone then. So excited for you going to the south of France. Have fun getting your clothes togeher. You always look lovely🌻
I'm very proud of you for knowing what you need at this time in your life. I can say from experience that the man has only his interests in mind and while it may seem like he is well meaning you dodged a bullet with that one. You would have lost far more than you would have gained, yourself. Frankly, having a man that says it isn't good to be alone is a fool because women do much better on their own then men do and you may not have been his purse but absolutely would have been his nurse. What he was doing was bribing and buying you, that's not love it's harmful. Ask me how I know..lol. Very sorry that you got that mean stalking letter and so glad that you alerted the authorities. You're doing great!
Janice the person who wrote the letter must be mentally unbalanced or is suffering from some mental trauma. So let’s pray for healing for them. Not surprised you got a marriage proposal 🤣you are such a lovely lady. Enjoy your videos very much ❤
I'll be 66 on Sat and have lived in three countries the past six years. I am getting ready for my fourth (Nice France) in a couple of months. Before that I traveled on and off for 40+ years when time would allow. My friends and I often joke about dating and the men we meet. It seems many are looking for a nurse with a purse. However, for those good ones that are out there at my age I don't see marriage again but if that were the case even with my meger retirement (psych caseworker and teacher) I would still have a prenup.
Goodness sake, I don't know who in the world would be not understanding you turning down that proposal but I know enough about you in the 50 minutes of exposure I've had to you to know that person proposing does not know you if they asked you to do that, and someone asking that of a person needs to know a person better than that. That was not an insightful proposal and that was someone not understanding you. Bullet dodged. So glad people in FR understand friendship first and vendorship second - that's a big reason I'm coming. Well done to all of you for cultivating humanness
@@JaniceInFrance I haven't yet looked for a long-term rental. I would like to stay there part of the year. If you like Italian food, go to Little Italy in Menton. Very good restaurant with outdoor seating.

So glad you stood your ground!
Always!
You will love the south of France 🇫🇷
France is a beautiful country all of it
I’m like a little kid. I’m so excited.
Love your videos. I'm leaving for England the end of Feb. and I hope to spend some time in France end of March. This is my first time solo-traveling outside the US and I'm so excited to go and explore!
You will be just fine, but just in case you get into a jam always feel free to email me. Hopefully we can meet when you get to France.
Enjoyed your goings on from rainy metro Atlanta!!
Sorry about the rain we’re having the same here
Hi, Janice! 😘😘😘😘😘
Well, hello
If he really loves you, he’ll move to France to be with you. Wait and see.
Janice belongs to France . Have a great trip to Riviera❤
Thank you, I will I just hope the rain stays away.
Wow, what a hiccup, don't worry, we've got you! Stay in France and continue to be happy! I look forward to your posts, you make my day! Bisous!
Thank you so much, and you make one
Happy anniversary. Can't wait for June girls getaway 😊
Oh thank you so much, Barbara
Nice sweater. Thanks for the update.
Any time!
You’re such an inspiration!! ❤
Thank you you’re a very kind
Enjoy your videos so much🌸
Glad you like them!
Looking forward to Wisdom Zoom in Feb ❤
Can't wait!
Take care of you:)
❤
Thank you I will
You make laugh! Don’t leave France Janice:)
I won’t
I am so happy to see you ❤
Oh, thank you so much
Oh gosh - I'm sorry about your phone! 😢... and why is that person so rude & nasty sending that ugly letter?! I'm sorry about that too. But you are resilient & a good person so to hell with them! Good vibes & love out to you!
Thank you there are just some people that just don’t have a life
You did the right thing!
I think so too
Glad you stay in France where you belong ! Better to have friends that can help out and live alone , dont give up your independence....! You will love the trip to the south. Crazy expensive and crowded that part but very beutiful views. Also the train ride between Paris and Barcelona is pretty. Stay happy and safe 🥰🥰
Thank you, I will
❤️🇫🇷Love your Joie de Vivre Janice! Hugs from Atlanta GA ❤️
@@JaniceInFrance Good to know, thanks! 🙂
Janice, Congratulations on three years of french bliss! That sweater is gorgeous on you, can you share the brand?
Yes! Thank you! I bought it on the website on Carrol’s Irish gifts
Thank you for understanding
By the way, I’m sorry about your week. I hope the next week is better.
Definitely the right decision!
I’ll be very honest with you if you go to the RUclips person called An SCOTT postcards from our golden years she just did a video on it and she is very very good
Always good to catch up with you….I was wondering what happened to your second dog?
He passed away last march!
Rue St. Honore.
I’m so sorry you had a horrible experience. That is horrible. Thanks for your kind words.
Loved your vlog today. Try and get a copy of The Long Afternoon by Giles Waterfield. It's a true story. Fascinating and set in the 1900s in Menton. Have a great time.
Oh my goodness I certainly will. Thank you so much for this information. I have so much to learn.
Janice, you did the right thing by saying no to the proposal as the same happened to me a few years ago, I would have gone from Rags to Riches but I knew it was not for me and so I’m still on my own. When you mentioned the times of your video that will be live, what time will it be in the UK ? XX
I think you guys are one hour behind us that would be 10 PM
St Tropez Caan Nice’ and so much more
Yes
There is a great video about Menton by a RUclips channel called French Vibes. The lady and her family live in a small nearby village called Gorbio. She takes her subscribers to places in and around the French Riviera.
I will check it out
Enjoy your vlogs
Thank you so very much
Janice, would a little purse that the phone will fit in, with a long strap, to wear around your body work?
I tried that, but the problem is I take the phone out to take pictures and talk and post and all that that’s the issue and then I lay down
I understand. It will have to be a small phone then. So excited for you going to the south of France.
Have fun getting your clothes togeher.
You always look lovely🌻
@@alomafoggo3239 no I have my regular iPhone 15 on it on the lanyard
Hi have you been into BenjaminBarton Tea shops in downtown Paris
It was once a family owned business Jemeau Lafond / Deman Tea
No, but it’s on my list now
I'm very proud of you for knowing what you need at this time in your life.
Well, thank you for being my favorite cheerleader today
Janice the person who wrote the letter must be mentally unbalanced or is suffering from some mental trauma. So let’s pray for healing for them. Not surprised you got a marriage proposal 🤣you are such a lovely lady. Enjoy your videos very much ❤
I agree
Thank you for the kindness
Did you have to search high and low to find someone to take care of your kitty when you travel? Btw love your zest for life and adventure ❤❤
No, I use this company called rover.com
I'll be 66 on Sat and have lived in three countries the past six years. I am getting ready for my fourth (Nice France) in a couple of months. Before that I traveled on and off for 40+ years when time would allow. My friends and I often joke about dating and the men we meet. It seems many are looking for a nurse with a purse. However, for those good ones that are out there at my age I don't see marriage again but if that were the case even with my meger retirement (psych caseworker and teacher) I would still have a prenup.
OMG Janice, what a horrible experience. Please be careful !!
I am thank you
You come first
Yes
Goodness sake, I don't know who in the world would be not understanding you turning down that proposal but I know enough about you in the 50 minutes of exposure I've had to you to know that person proposing does not know you if they asked you to do that, and someone asking that of a person needs to know a person better than that. That was not an insightful proposal and that was someone not understanding you. Bullet dodged.
So glad people in FR understand friendship first and vendorship second - that's a big reason I'm coming. Well done to all of you for cultivating humanness
Thank you so much and I am just fine
Hi Janice.... Sure hope I run into you in Antibes.
Wouldn’t that be wonderful?
It has been my dream to live in Menton! Let me know if you love it also!
I’m sure I will but boy I read that the rent is really really high. Is that your finding also?
@@JaniceInFrance I haven't yet looked for a long-term rental. I would like to stay there part of the year. If you like Italian food, go to Little Italy in Menton. Very good restaurant with outdoor seating.
