So glad I stumbled across this! Great post Sean! Two great finger players tearing it up. Derek slinging his slide off his finger at 13:05, and letting it rip is epic. When he shows the players that he broke a string, Kofi kicks straight into a solo allowing Derek to get a fresh guitar. You can't teach that kind of improvisation. Those are all true players in the moment of the song. Love it!

The audience responds accordingly at 13:50. At that moment, the price of admission was a distant memory.

To be fair, the keys solo always starts after the first guitar solo/that little lick ;)

@@fiftyfiveseventy I was just gonna say that. Elizabeth Reed goes into a keyboard solo there after that transition always.

Derek is one of the most underrated guitar player there is, there's no flashy speed demon licks even though he can, just blood sweat & tears in his playing same goes for Luther, I grew up in Memphis Luther as was his Father is a legend. What a treat watching these two masters at work.

Sean Roche, a way belated thank you for capturing this. I was there that night and was actually in your section a few rows back and saw you recording this. It was a magical moment (even Susan is applauding at the end:) I hear one of my "whoos" on this and have watched it so many times (and will be here again in October. ) Thanks.

13:07 the moment I wait for when I listen to Derek play. I prefer his playing without the slide. Not that his slide playing isn't amazing, it's just really refreshing to hear him without it. It's nice to hear him shred without a slide.

So glad you posted this, and so quickly. This just blew me away at the show. The dynamics are a bit compressed on this video, at the show it was simply glorious. Luther really hammered on this and Derek was in great form and tone. Thanks again for sharing this moment. My son took me to this concert, which he picked for me because Jorma opened. And it was nice seeing Jorma again, but these two numbers on this video ended up being the real treat. Though the entire evening was special, particularly the closer, Lets Go Get Stoned.

Larry Schwartz Luther always does. I’ve watched him develop into a world class guitar player of the past 20 years. I knew his mom and dad and saw him coming up in the Memphis bars and small festivals. He and Cody both have come a long way

MAN WHAT A SOLO!!!! I have never seen Derek throw his bottle down like that !!! It tells me he was SO into it he could not do anything else. It was around 13.20. What CANT this man do with a guitar? The favorite thing to me , is that he does not use a pick. None of my other favs do that, not Clapton Hendrix or Duane ,for that matter, not to put Duane down he WAS my favorite. Now it is Derek.

Sean you are the man! Much appreciated. Luther is the perfect foil for Derek. Incredible combination. AN UPDATE: One year, two months and bucket of days later, I remain astonished at home freakin good this is. Best Liz Reed of all time? Don't want to go there and bring out all the haters. But Oh Yeah These Boys (& Girls!) Can Jam. Astonished.

gary laubscher one of Luther Dickinson’s earliest and biggest influences was a Memphis guitar player, Lee Baker. Lee was in his dad’s band, Mudboy and the Neutrons for many years. In the 60s he was in a kickass blues band, Moloch. The Moloch album is on RUclips. Check it out. You’ll hear where Luther got some of his blues licks.

well it does sound way better in the building. I started this with another camera so if you go back and look at my earlier videos the sound is twice as good now but we are still limited by the camera. I personally think the sound on this camera is way better than any phone.
