  • Few other guitars offer all solid wood and electronics for this price, and I’d be quick to recommend the Recording King Dirty 30s Deluxe Single 0 to anyone wanting a guitar that’s well-built and sounds worthy for under $500. For the full review see acousticguitar....

    True to it's name it appears to be a recording guitar and a good finger picker. I have a Recording King banjo that plays and sounds above it's price point. It's not a Gibson Mastertone but I'm not Earl Scruggs either. Guitar videos are fun to watch but musical instruments are about as personal as your toothbrush. The only way you can really know what works for you is to play it yourself. If I were in the market I'd give it a go. Sounds like it could compete with the smaller X Martins. Maybe better with all wood and a less expensive decal. Of course some people collect expensive decals and that's fine too. Who wouldn't want a pre-war Martin but how realistic is that for the average picker. It would cost more to insure than your house. Good video.

    I like your ability to play the tunes you played to demonstrate the sonic voicing of the guitar. Very useful. Thanks.

    Your review is great. Some reviewers push the guitar to far. These little guys need a soft touch.

    How great for music that this quality is available at such a good price. What those old blues / folk players would have given to have such a well built bit of kit.

      That's Prelude in C# Minor by Rachmaninoff, but like the Eddie Lang version, which is in E minor.

    Not to be picky but the website says paduak is used for the fretboard and bridge.....you stated bubinga....is it the same Thing..? Just curious since I have one of these on order.....

    • @GregOlwell
      @GregOlwell 4 года назад +4

      Bubinga and padauk are not the same thing! It is a PADAUK fingerboard and bridge -- I misspoke during filming. Thanks for the catch. I used to have an electric bass with padauk and bubinga and as I was blabbing along, I must have swapped them accidently. Sorry for the confusion.

    What do you mean African mahogany isn’t really mahogany but close enough?

    • @nuggulux
      @nuggulux 4 года назад +1

      It is not a true mahogany, like the Swietenia genus, but it is part of the same family, botanically speaking, so they are close and African mahogany is closely related to true mahoganies.

    • @AcousticGuitarMag
      @AcousticGuitarMag  2 года назад +1

      It's Prelude in c-sharp minor by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Eddie Lang did a solo-guitar arrangement of it in the 1920s...You can learn to play it here: acousticguitar.com/learn-eddie-langs-jazz-guitar-interpretation-of-a-rachmaninoff-prelude/

    Why did the reviewer play with both a pick and fingerstyle to demonstrate the guitar acoustically, and only fingerstyle to demonstrate the pickup? Because playing with a pick exposes the weaknesses and brings out the worst in piezo pickup systems. I hate when reviewers do that. It doesn't help those of us who play mostly with a pick hear how it will sound on stage.

      @@GregOlwell Could I ask what style of playing the first and last musical examples were? Gypsy jazz? Whenever I hear a player using that style I always want to try but don't know what style to search for online? I love old jazz tunes but have never tried on guitar!

    • @GregOlwell
      @GregOlwell 4 года назад +1

      @@KaukTim Hi Tim, the last tune is sort-of a swing/Gypsy jazz version of "All of Me" while the first tune is a basic blues progression on a tune like "Sugar in My Bowl." We had a fantastic Django specialist, Paul Mehling, do several lessons for Acoustic Guitar. I'd recommend searching the magazine's website for his name, including the basic "la pompe" strum.
