Excellent video....am returning to analogue photography and am looking at the F4 with a 50mm, watching this has convinced me to purchase one, normally use Canon digital but always loved a pro Nikon !
I adore my F4. My dream was the F2 but found her for dirt cheap and don’t regret it at all. Chunky and heavy but fits so well in the hand and just shoots like a dream really!
Alpha Film everytime I shoot an AF SLR I fall a little more in love. I am considering an f4 myself right now. The price is still reasonable, the functions are plenty and it’s still got nobs and dials instead of buttons and click wheels! Go shoot your f6, then let me shoot it after 😁
@@ChinaCameraStyle F4 is still amazing, the price of them is very good, at least in Japan. But yeah, def shooting with you when I return to China again hahahaha
Alpha Film the price is good in China too. More expensive in Europe, but considering the capability of the camera, it’s still a steal. Look forward to it! Hit me up when you’re back 👌
Just ordered one of these gems. In a world where programmed obsolescence is a religion in Corporates it is great to be able to pick up these marvels of engineering on the cheap these days...
Very cool video! You are nice guy! It’s my favorite camera which I love to use. I’ve been living in China as well but just for 6 months during my studies long ago in Chongqing and Wuhan. Few foreigners there..even I would say almost no foreigners. You can just come and take picture of people? Wow ! In my country France it’s forbidden, some people would even break your camera ! Glad to see Chinese are willing to take photo without asking. I feel MB-21 is a nice grip and also makes camera looks much prettier haha. But to be honest with my 85mm 1.4G it’s so damn heavy !! Another cool thing to F4 , is that it can use pre-Ai lenses with matrix metering...this can be found on F6 as well. Only F4 and F6 can do that, exceptional cameras. Also the best serial numbers are from 2500xxx because F4 was updated during years since 1988 and this serial number has all best modifications.
Gregory Myers I shot it predominately using A, I did test P and M. To be specific, inside the market I was shooting M wide open at around 1/30-1/60 of a second.
Use an F4 with a voigtlander 40mm Ultron, push HP5+ 400 to iso1600. Use Aperture mode and Set aperture to f11. And turn lightmeter to Matrix. Set ring focus at 3. Everything is sharp from ~2 meters to ~7 meters at high speed even indoor. You are done for street photos. No need AF, i noticed some pics, you was lack of speed.

Definitely the best review I’ve seen on the f4 👌🏻
Jeff Smith thanks you! Appreciate the comment.
Blooming brilliant camera. It’s my favourite classic go to Using it today.
28/1.4D is my favorite inside wide but the 2.8 is amazing or the 35/2.
Good video man. I just got one. Gonna try it out here tomorrow. :)
Nice review for the F4, and this looks from my hometown huangpu in Shanghai. I just got mine F4s today. Hopefully we can travel again soon.
Great job. Have two F4’s. One for future parts. Thank you.
Great video Josh! Make me want to shoot with my F6 now

@@ChinaCameraStyle is there any improvement in image quality and autofocus accuracy with the newer AF-S lenses over the older AF/AF-D with the F4.

great video, I'm just wondering what small tassel is hanging off one of the strap lugs and where i can get it
They’re by peak designs
its the end of a camera strap
Just ordered one on eBay from Japan!
So my F4 has serial number 2470311 and I reckon it is a newer camera
with the updates? Shooting with Ilford 400 HP5+ wish me luck :)

Great video. What mode were you shooting? A, M or P?

China Camera Style thank you my friend
Bit late to the party but great video, very informative!

You should prepare your film before opening the back, this is a basic trick
Asians seem to be a lot more relaxed when it comes to strangers approaching them with cameras. Here in states you're quick to get a dirty look.
In Japan I get the dirty looks from middle aged men mainly :’) old people or younger people generally don’t care as much- especially the oldies :p
or a bullet!!
