Welcome back to YOU Can Beatbox. In this episode we’re checking out the hi hat train, a great sound that takes two simple components to make a great new technique. I’m calling it trap hi hats but it can also be called a hi hat train, trap hi hat train or any variation like that. And it sounds like this [demo].
The sound relies on two techniques. First, like with the dubstep roll and with the cricket whistle, you must be able to roll the letter R. To help out anyone who cant roll the letter R or anyone who doesn’t like their current sound, here’s a quick lesson. To most native English speakers in the US, the letter R is made by clenching your jaw muscles to make an R, think like a pirate [Arr]. To roll the letter R, FORGET THAT. Think more along the lines of Spanish speakers. They make the letter R by letting the tip of their tongue bounce against the roof of their mouth. This bouncing of the tongue to get the letter R is done by placing the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth and breathing out or by speaking. Keep your tongue relatively flat like this and breath out. That’s all I’m going to say in this video on rolling the letter R but let me know if you want a full tutorial.
Okay so for the trap hi hat you can roll the letter R. Mazel tov. Now put your mouth in position as if you were going to make an F sound. Top teeth on the inside of your lower lip.
Now do those two at the same time. Roll the R and add an F sound. Bada bing bada boom you have the trap hi hat. Hang that right up on the fridge.
Now lets do some practice beats:
B ttt ts K^ B ttt ts K^ x2
B ttt ttt K^ B ttt ttt x2
That’s all for this sound and I really hope you enjoyed learning it. Subscribe to the channel for more beatboxing and youtube content and give this video a thumbs up if ya liked it. Thanks for watching YOU Can Beatbox and next time we’ll be learning the cricket sound [demo].
