  • Experience my favorite hike on the east-coast, The falling waters to mt Lafayette summit loop offers unparalleled views of the Northeast. This hike is located in The Franconia area of New Hampshire, Keep in mind the parking-lot fills up early but if that occurs an AMC shuttle can accommodate you to get to the trailhead. Always remember to check trail conditions at the local ranger station be prepared, bring a water filter, a windbreaker or sweatshirt, something to protect against rain and a flashlight other than your phone there is ample lodging and campgrounds in the area for more info check this link to alltrails www.alltrails.com/trail/us/ne...

    An absolute great hike with fantastic views. Check the weather beforehand so you can get in those beautiful views.It is also wise to go up the Falling Waters trail and down Old Bridle Path from what I have found. Very popular on weekends in the summer and fall.

    Have done this loop a number of times and the traverse across the Franconia Ridge Trail never failed to inspire; wish you'd spent a little more time on that portion but still, a fine video. Thanks for the work!

      Honestly one of my favorite hikes! ur not wrong I could have and maybe should have spent a little more time showing the ridge, my thought process was that people would get to have some organic discoveries of their own for the best part of the hike. looking back that may have been a mistake haha but we live and we learn~

    Your video brought back wonderful memories. Mt. Lafayette was my first major hike. I spent a whole summer day on the trail with friends, using the Greenleaf Trail to reach the summit. We had a fun time, though by the end I was exhausted, with my legs and feet feeling like jelly due to the steep ascent. Nevertheless, I’ll never forget how amazing it was to take in the serenity of the White Mountains at such a high altitude.

    I went there last year, to the falling waters trails but made it to the last falls bc my daughter slipped and was done so we turned back. It was a pretty intense hike for us. If we had continued, is that how we could get to that top view and cabin? I may have to go alone but would love to see those views and visit that cabin 😁

      Falling Waters trail will bring you to Franconia Ridge, yes. The Greenleaf Hut is on the Old Bridle Path which you would arrive to if you made your way along the ridge. You can also do this loop backwards, and start up Old Bridle, reaching the Hut early before the crowds and before any summits. From there you would head to the summit of Mt. Lafayette and proceed south along Franconia ridge and go down Falling Waters. I suggest staying at the Lafayette Place Campground, and starting the hike off very early in the day.

      @@GetUpTheMountains Great info! Thank you. If I make it to the hut, do I go back the same way?

    • @GetUpTheMountains
      @GetUpTheMountains 2 года назад +1

      @@Angelskris333 You're welcome! It's a loop, so you can go whichever way you want. You could go up Old Bridle to the Hut, and then go back down the same way. You could go up Old Bridle to the Hut and keep going up Lafayette and continue along the whole ridge. Either way you go, clock or counter-clockwise, you'll start and end at the same spot. www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-hampshire/mount-lafayette-and-franconia-ridge-trail-loop

      @@Angelskris333 Make it 8am to ensure you have a parking spot. ;) This is a super popular hike, and the lots fill up quickly, especially on weekends in the summer. You can alternatively get a campground spot at Lafayette Place, camp out the night before and leisurely walk to the trailhead in the morning, leaving your car at camp. Thats what I did. Good luck! Any more questions, just ask away.

    hey there! just had a question about the drones on trail. are drones for recreation/hobby permitted? thanks!

    • @GetUpTheMountains
      @GetUpTheMountains 2 года назад

      There are very specific rules for flying and more importantly landing drones in the White Mountains. There are Forest Protected Areas, Alpine Zones, and full exclusion zones such a Franconia Ridge. A lot of the footage you're seeing here was not obtained legally. www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd612186.pdf
