Hey Liz! I reached out to Plaid, who is the makers of Waverly chalk paint. They told me that some Walmarts made some changes to thier modular program so if you don't see it at your normal Walmart then it is likely available at a near by Walmart and you can always order it online! So Waverly isn't going anywhere, you just might have to go to another store or order online at Walmart or Plaid online. (I reached out on thier Facebook page but can share the screen shot of thier response to anyone who is interested) 😍❤
I received the same information when I emailed them. I don’t believe it though as it can’t be found in stores anywhere. Plaid saying this was just their way of easing the blow. I’m sure eventually they’ll begin selling it on their website.
Liz, it's simple really... Walmart wants to profit from the booming chalk paint market. They get rid of their main competitor in their stores and replace it with their products. It's about money. Try adding some water to the new wax. See if thinner is better. Love your channel and products ❣💕😊
Lisa you are 100% right, with Walmart it is all about the profits, they could care less about the customers and what they want. By launching their own brand the are making a higher profit margin.
I asked someone at Walmart and they said they are no longer carrying Waverly in the store. So I ordered a lot of the Antique Wax online. I emailed Plaid and asked what's going on and apparently, Walmart didn't let them in on the secret. They said it is made exclusively for Walmart and available online if not in my store. Not now. Not a smart move by Walmart at all.
@@cryslynnstalents2647 Yet my store carries no Waverly at all now. Online I can order about 8 colors from Waverly, but it's difficult to find the Antique Wax, if not impossible over the last several months.
I've always made my own chalk paint from the sample paint from Home Depot (7oz) a 1/4 cup plaster of paris and a 1/4 cup water. I've never had a problem and the finish is beautiful!
Liz, I would take their version of paints back and send a clear message that you are not happy with their product. I'm sorry but this is really disappointing to hear. Have a blessed evening friend.

Oh my gosh I had a feeling the Waverly Chalk Paint was being discontinued since my Walmart hasn’t had it either and colors are limited online. Antique wax is my absolute fav as well I I needed it to stain three 1x 4 shelves and couldn’t find it anywhere but eBay which cost me $13 for 8oz but it came in a Walmart bag??? I haven’t watched your review yet cuz I was so happy to see that someone else noticed this! Good luck finding the wax and thanks for the review! I checked plaid too!
Me too. I see a few crafters using it, and it performs better on many surfaces than a lot of these paints, but I don’t think it holds up to glass, as well, at least, in my experience. I live in a pretty dusty area, and I don’t think any paint would hold up to me washing it, however, I have seen the homemade chalk paints covering better, on wood and other things. I also like the fact that you have way more color choices. I don’t think waverly has the best color choices, I prefer the Folk Art chalk paint color choices better, than Waverly. The few Waverly colors, that I have bought, are horribly separated, so they must be sitting a long time, in my store, or in their facility, unless that is just something that happens to that paint. I have never had it happen to me with any other paint, unless it has sat for years.
@@MissMolly3377 I have never painted on glass before. I would think any paint would have to have a primer or use mod podge on the glass first. I have a project coming up painting glass and I definitely plan on sealing it well.
Thank you for sharing that these new paints smell like house paint. I won’t be buying them for sure! Who needs sticky, smelly paint that doesn’t cover well and takes too long to dry? 🤷🏻♀️
Thank you so much! I've heard "whispers" of no more Waverly but could not confirm or find explanations anywhere until your video. Not only do I feel I finally got REAL information here but an honest review of Wal-Mart's replacement chalk paint. Waverly is more than a staple in my craft supplies...its essential..a must have. :(
I know! I was shocked to know they are not saying Waverly chalk paint anymore.😯😬😭 I love Waverly. I bought a couple of bottles of the Hello Hobby. Absolutely NO contest. The product is not that great. And it peels off too easy when taping of. I wonder if we can order from the actual WAVERLY site.
The new wax seems to be like a furniture wax. And if you use the clear waverly wax it tells you to use a dry cloth like an old T-shirt and buff the wax and it will shine and no more sticky feeling. I haven’t tried the new stuff but I’ve worked a lot with the Waverly clear wax
I was so sad when my Walmart got rid of Waverly too. I also really like Folk Art’s chalk paint and if you buy it from JoAnn Fabrics when they have it on sale, it ends up being less than Waverly for the 8 oz. bottles or you can use a coupon and get it for less as well! Thanks for doing a comparison of the two, hopefully Plaid decides to restock it Waverly!
So far my Walmart still has it. I did buy to large bottles of the plaster color. I use it on almost every project I do. I will be stocking up on other colors now that I know they have their own line coming out. I just lover Waverly Chalk paint.
Thank you for sharing your review and thoughts about the two paints. There will probably be a place we can purchase the Waverly chalk paint moving forward, like Amazon. Walmart has been carrying Waverly home dec fabrics and I assume the paint was in colors to coordinate, so maybe the fabrics will go away, too. My observation is that the fabrics did not move very well, which costs money, and we know how Walmart rolls back prices on everything, and its gonna be a tradeoff. 🤦🏻♀️ I have experienced so much that I don't like about Walmart ways, that I am choosing to go there less and less for anything. Expiration dates, for example, tend to be closer than I see at Safeway or Frys, the Buckeye Frys being an exception 🤦🏻♀️. Anyway, I ramble... TYFS and Happy 4th!
I just purchased the largest bottle of Waiverly crimson paint at my local Wal-Mart the other day. It was the only size in the color crimson. I wanted to start on my Christmas projects for this year early and, I can't find my brand new bottle in the medium size along with the green. I think I packed them up with my Christmas crafts from last year. Thanks for sharing this information. Now I am thinking about going and purchasing the pumpkin color in the Waiverly chalk paint before I miss out as well as the other colors just in case my Wal-Mart changes over to their new hello hobby brand. I definitely will NOT be buying their products of "chalk paint" Ugh. Why can't they just leave it alone. 😒
Liz what you can do also depending on where you live I live in California and we have the Waverly chalk paint and it hasn’t changed when I was in Arizona visiting someone I was trying to order an item from dollar tree in California and the warehouse here was completely out but when I put my location in Arizona to order the dollar tree lights I got them and ship them to California so that might be an option is put your location for California and see if the warehouse can ship from there to your house
I know our Michael’s no longer carries Waverly but they have stocked up on FolkArt but have no Hello Hobby paint as of yet. I use both Waverly and FolkArt and I like them both, hopefully are WalMart will continue to carry Waverly, I haven’t checked in awhile. Thanks for the review!!
I always used Waverly chalk paint, but I noticed Michaels has the Folkart Chalk paint. They are both from Plaid so hopefully same quality. I just ordered 2 Antique Wax bottles from Walmart, got the message that there was only 2 left ordering online. Thanks for the information, I am going today to the Walmart stores in my area to buy any Waverly chalk paint I can get 🤞🏽
I have recently seen that many crafters are preferring the folk art wax, to Waverly. A lot of them liked the crafts smart wax better, too. I am not impressed with the Waverly wax, myself.
I noticed that Hello Hobby is manufactured in China. That makes it a cheap, junk paint and if they sell it for the same price as Waverly, they make out. I got one bottle to try but now I'm not sure if I want to. If it stinks I probably can't use it because I am sensitive to odors like that. I just got a lot of Folk Art Multi Surface acrylic paint. It's not chalk paint but will do until I can make my own or need real chalk paint. Thankfully I have a lot of Waverly left. I have one more Walmart to check. It's further away but it'll be worth it if they have the Waverly.
Our Walmart (Northern Illinois) has both FolkArt and Waverly. I was there today and they had a lot of both. They just got done reorganizing store and I thought maybe Waverly would go away at that time but it didn’t. Yeah!
I bought hello hobby in white and gravel and I don’t care for the white at all. The gravel color is really pretty and covers better than the white. I agree they are definitely more like acrylic paints. I probably won’t buy it unless I have to. I love the linen white and all the other colors I’ve used by Rustoleum and my Walmart carries a few colors of Rustoleum. I was able to order several of the medium sized Waverly paints from Walmart the other day so I know I got lucky there. Lol! Thanks for sharing your review Liz!
Thanks for the video. I'm really upset about Walmart not carry Waverley anymore. I still have a few in my area that is still carrying it so im trying to stock up on it while i can
Liz, thank you so much for doing this review! I live in upstate South Carolina and fortunately my Walmart is still well-stocked on Waverley! If they do discontinue it and start carrying the Hello Hobby brand, I may give it a try because I liked a couple of the colors you featured that are different from Waverley‘s. But I would rather stick with my tried and true Waverley! By the way I always enjoy your videos and am inspired by your creative ideas!
Waverly is made in the USA. If you look on the back of the Hello Hobby paint you will see that it’s made in China and distributed by Walmart. Walmart is probably saving money by shipping a cheaper product from China. I have compared the Waverly to the Hello Hobby and there’s no comparison in my opinion. I’ve seen some good reviews on FolkArt brand and have ordered some to try out. FolkArt is made by Plaid too.
I actually dont mind the HELLO brand but I use a bigger brush for larger areas and I feel like if you would do the same you would get much better coverage..> use a regular lil larger brush or a smaller foam brush and have no issues with coverage. I don't hate it but I don't love it either so🤷♀️🤷♀️
Just a hint. I don’t know if you are using a microphone on the same table that you are setting your crafts on but when you set the paint down there is an echoing thud sound. Thank you for testing the new Walmart chalk paint out. I kind of think Walmart knows how much everyone loves waverly chalk paint after going through the pandemic. I suspect that might be why they came up with their own hoping to make a larger profit.
Thank you for the review, I've been wondering. I hope Waverly is just redoing their products, adding new colors, updating their look or something, but who knows. Now that pink color you did those triangle succulent planters in is a gorgeous color, I might have to get me a bottle of it! So pretty! I wonder with the wax though if maybe adding a few drops of water to it would help it out a little bit, maybe thin it out make it apply a little easier. I didn't catch much difference in the color though, unless I missed that part, might have to rewatch that part lol because I can't recall.
I don't know if you have friends or family or friends in FB groups in the Midwest (I'm in Oklahoma and we currently have Waverly in stock) but maybe you can coordinate with someone to pick up some bottles of Waverly from a store that hasn't discontinued and ship them to you??? I know Dollar Tree has FB groups that do swapping and sharing when certain Dollar Tree stores in regions of the US don't carry items that others do in regions. Just a thought...I can't imagine what shock that was to you, I love your channel!
Hey Liz! I live in Canada and can't get Waverly but can get the Home Decor which is also made by Plaid. I find it very good, it's like the consistency of the Waverly and goes on beautifully. I know you can get it on Amazon. Hope that helps! :)
I found them to be comparable but I tend to use thick coats of paint normally, and always use a rag to apply wax and stains so I didn’t find a difference there either. The only difference would be the shades of wax. But I know when we have a favorite of something and it’s replaced, we have to grudgingly adjust 😢 I just picked up the pinks, greens and blues today, and I love the pink you used. I think it’s called dusty rose?
Thank you for the review. I wonder if the thicker consistency has to do with paint drying slower than the Waverley. . I am going to try some and see how it works for me.
I went and looked at Plaid products online, and there is a notation under each color chalk paint I pulled up that says Waverly products were made exclusively for Walmart. They also make several other name brand lines of paint. Based on my watching RUclips creators I think the Folk Art is probably the most direct swap out for the chalk paint and the waxes. I find Folk Art carried online at Hobby Lobby, Michael’s and Joann.
Part of why I loved waverly was the good display of color choices. I chose not to buy any of their new paint in large part because you can't tell very well what the color will be.
I went to my Walmart the other day and only this Hello Hobby stuff with Waverly signing. So bummed cuz I love Waverly! Guess I'll spend more and buy Folkart. I'm so glad you did this review! Thank you for doing the work for us!
You know, it Could be, both, plaid and Walmart, working together to make more money. Everyone is quick to blame Walmart, who, I agree, is greedy, however, it could be Plaid is trying to make more money, as well. Both, Waverly and Folk Art, are made by plaid. The Waverly and the Folk Art are the exact same formula, of paint, except, in my opinion, Folk Art has better colors. However, since Folk Art is more expensive, maybe, Plaid is trying to make more money, too. You can’t just blame Walmart, because I have heard several different stories, that Plaid has told to various people, who have called them. So, who is lying?

I've contacted Plaid via email who only repeatedly say, "We continue to make Waverly Chalk Paint in Fawn for Walmart. We cannot control what Walmart decides to sell and not sell." So I guess somewhere there is this stockpile of Fawn paint that Plaid keeps manufacturing but Walmart isn't selling.
I have only bought a couple colors of the Waverly. I usually just make my own chalk paint. I like it better and it's more economical.
so far my Walmart is still stocked with Waverly Chalk Paint. thank you for giving us the comparison and your opinion.!
Very strange. My Walmart in rural Missouri is still stocked with Waverly.
This was really informative, thank you! I’m going to miss Waverly that’s for sure!
Looks like all we’re gonna be doing is learning how to make a good chalk paint DIY
Holly at Hot Humble Pie has a great recipe for DIY chalk paint. Plus she does amazing rustic farmhouse DIYs! 🤗
Talc baby powder or calcium carbonate.
I've used a few different things. My go to is calcium carbonate.
I am new to crafting I have only used Waverly paints, I love them. Thank you for your testing of this new paint.
Thanks for sharing 👍 😊 I love painting with chalkboard paint..
I love the little barn house in the back. Would love to know how you made that
The red one? It's actually one of my craft kits that are available on my website :) www.mooredecalanddecor.com
I was also going to share how popular Folk Art Home Decor chalk paint is & how comparable it is to Waverly’s, and it’s sold on Amazon.
My Walmart has it. I live in Kentucky idk how long but for now Jackson Walmart has the Waverly chalk paint. I'm gonna stock up on it.
Liz what you can do also depending on where you live
I live in California and we have the
Waverly chalk paint and it hasn’t changed
when I was in Arizona visiting someone I was trying to order an item from dollar tree in California and the warehouse here was completely out but when I put my location in Arizona to order the dollar tree lights
I got them and ship them to California so that might be an option is put your location for California and see if the warehouse can ship from there to your house
You can also add a little water to loosen up the paint some
I’m from Mississippi and my Walmart still carries WAVERLY chalked paint.
Sounds like I'll be adding some water to mine, when my Walmart switches. 🤪 They need to leave things that sell alone.
Ohhh so sad about Waverly! Not much in our stores in Vegas but I still can order from Walmart online with my zip code!💕
Walmart here in Minnesota still has Waverly.
I really like Waverly too, I have used Rustolem also, not bad. Folk Art is probably the closest. So far my Walmart still has waverly.
That explains why I can’t find the pumpkin color anywhere. Lol.
Thanks so much for the comparison. I agree with you 💯 percent. I have searched repeatedly on Amazon,Walmart and Plaid with the same results.
Yeah!
Thanks for your opinion. I think I will really hunt for Waverly.
Yeah, I just got two 30 oz container of Rustoleum, linen white, for 10.88/each, on Amazon. That is cheaper than the 16 oz Waverly paint.
You are so sweet! Thank you!
Hello from Upstate SC! Greenville / Anderson!
I think you have the correct answer. I am devastated, I was obsessed w this paint.
I actually dont mind the HELLO brand but I use a bigger brush for larger areas and I feel like if you would do the same you would get much better coverage..> use a regular lil larger brush or a smaller foam brush and have no issues with coverage. I don't hate it but I don't love it either so🤷♀️🤷♀️
So far, my Walmart’s in Baytown Texas , still have Waverly
Just a hint. I don’t know if you are using a microphone on the same table that you are setting your crafts on but when you set the paint down there is an echoing thud sound. Thank you for testing the new Walmart chalk paint out. I kind of think Walmart knows how much everyone loves waverly chalk paint after going through the pandemic. I suspect that might be why they came up with their own hoping to make a larger profit.
Thanks for the review on these paints. will be making a run to find the waverly brand!!
Paint pan=palate,,,,, 🎨🖌 lol
You're too funny...
I love all the goodies you make,, 💕❤
Thanks for sharing. My Walmart isn't carrying Waverly any more. So I guess I'll buy online.
My Walmart's are still carrying Waverly Chalk Paint however the shelves aren't completely stocked. I'm in Daytona Beach Florida
I like Folkestone (not the decor chalk paint because cors are off) but they only do smaller containers in store and I refinish furniture
I would really like to see someone use it, who doesn’t have a biased opinion, already. So, thank you, for sharing this comment.
I don't have any issues with Hello Hobby either
If you go to Walmart online they carry it. And would be delivered to your home. Hope this helps you out.
I'm going to thin the Hello Hobby "wax"...the long-drying is a bummer.
I'm just switching to Folk Art or Customer chalk paint. TFS!!!
Another youtuber said she buys rustoleum Chalk paint at Walmart on the paint section. She loves.
Part of why I loved waverly was the good display of color choices. I chose not to buy any of their new paint in large part because you can't tell very well what the color will be.
My stores around me still have it and I cannot order the other brand except I believe in the largest bottles
Walmart where I live still has it, for now anyway, limited stock though. Walmart did raise the price on it, of course.
Liz, I live in PA and my Walmarts are still carrying Waverly. It has not been discounted. I do know Kelly from Kelly Barlow creations can't get Waverly from her Walmarts. She lives in Calif. I'm not sure what area you are from but I'm going to Fla to see my sister (leave tomorrow) and I'm going to check her Walmart. I think I'm gonna stock up on Waverly wax and paint based on your experience.
I'm in AZ, so I wonder if it's a west coast thing?
I live in NW PA, and we have Waverly, too.
@@MissMolly3377 I live in the north east in Hamburg right above Reading about an hour north of Philadelphia. I just bought big bottles of Waverly today. Did you read the comment left by Sarah @ jujbee crafts ? If not look in Liz's comments. She explains why some Walmarts have Waverly and others don't. I hope we don't get that Holly Hobby paint because it's not looking like it's all that good.
I'm so upset walmart DOESNT HAVE WAVERLY:(
Holly on Hot Humble has a DIY receipe that is great. It is made out of Calcium carbonate (food grade)
I checked Amazon, they sell falk art mainly, had some white Waverly a 160z bottle is $25 but only had 6 left.
I dont like the new paint at Walmart, im in tn my store still has some but not a lot and its the small bottles, they are going to loose a lot of money by doing this. People may buy it once but after that they will be hunting Waverly... I hope we can get it somewhere.
Try and order Waverly through Wal-Mart using a different zip code. I’ve done that before and got what I needed by changing my account to another store.
ooo that's a good idea!
I am so sad !!!!! I will have to check my Walmart's hopefully I can stock up, thank you for doing this
I have been trying to find Waverly Chalk Paint in "Fawn" (color) for a while. It's not available online or in-store (Yes, I know it's only sold at Walmart). (sarcasm) Walmart Rep just says, "We are out of stock on that" Gotta love when no one wants to get to the bottom of a matter and give you a REAL answer.!!
