    Lyrics:
Memories are all that's left behind
As I lay and wait to die
    Little do they know
That I hear their choice of life
End it now, it is the only way
Too cruel, that is what they say
Release me from this lonely world
There is no hope - Why don't you
    Pull the plug
    Let me pass away
    Pull the plug
Don't want to live this way
Once I had full control of my life
I now behold a machine decides my fate
End it now it's all too late
What has now been days, it seems like years
To stay like this is what I fear
Life ends so fast, so take your chance
    And make it last
End it now, it is the only way
Too cruel, that is what they say
Release me from this lonely world
There is no hope - Why don't you
    Pull the plug
    Let me pass away
    Pull the plug
Don't want to live this way

I knew Chuck personally. I got his home phone number, talked to him, and met in person in 1987 and met up with him again in 1989. I often think about the lyrics from this song and think to myself if he ever said any of these words as he was dying. What happened to him was one of the saddest things ever. I miss you, buddy. You were the best.

@@garywilson3042 I got his number from an acquaintance at a show in 1987. I called him about 4-5 times, and 2 more times after he relocated to San Francisco. After he came back to Altamonte Springs, I called him again and he told me that he already released the album and the first night of the Scream Bloody Tour was going to be in Miami Beach. I met him at the concert and helped load his gear. That year, I joined the first version of Cynic which was Paul, Sean, Russel Mofskey, and myself. I was kicked out of the group, because I couldn't afford equipment, but I was still friends with Cynic and at local band showcase, I gave Paul Chuck's phone number. He said he thought Chuck like to jam with Cynic. I told him I thought that their styles were too different, but boy was I wrong. In 1989, I played drums for Hellwitch, and we saw Death in Orlando, and we opened for them and Dark Angel in Melbourne. Some of the footage of me playing can be seen here:

I remember walking in to the local indie record store back in '89 and finding a cassette in the $1 bin called Leprosy by some band called Death. Bought it based entirely on the cover art, hoping it'd be in the same vein as Reign in Blood. Got home, and popped it in to the walkman, and had my mind blown.

empire, I absolutely agree with you on the remastered tracks being better, I have always preferred the remastered versions all of the metal I listen to. I have no clue how someone could possibly prefer the original mixing unless they were actually there experiencing its recording. As a guitarist, I value instrumental music in the form of metal above all other genres without any doubt, and I do agree that newer metal bands like Rings of Saturn can sound way too digital and fake at times. However remastering a song's mixing specifically for the purposes of enhancing the clarity of the instruments being played, such as in this case and eternally more examples within metal, is utterly preferable to listening to tracks mixed in the late 80's onward, which were tailored for the technical specifications of inferior hardware.

    [Verse 1]
Memories is all that's left behind
As I lay and wait to die
    Little do they know
That I hear their choice of life
    [Pre-Chorus]
End it now, it is the only way
Too cruel, that is what they say
Release me from this lonely world
There is no hope - Why don't you
    [Chorus]
    Pull the plug
    Let me pass away
    Pull the plug
Don't want to live this way
    [Bridge]
Once I had full control of my life
I now behold a machine decides my fate
End it now it's all too late
    [Verse 2]
What has now been days, it seems like years
To stay like this is what I fear
Life ends so fast, so take your chance
    And make it last
    [Pre-Chorus]
End it now, it is the only way
Too cruel, that is what they say
Release me from this lonely world
There is no hope - Why don't you
    [Chorus]
    Pull the plug
    Let me pass away
    Pull the plug
Don't want to live this way

Chucks guitar playing was amazing on this album, and kept getting better. Saw them in concert twice, and those were 2 of the best metal concerts I've ever witnessed live. Considering that I'm old enough to have seen Metallica with Cliff, Slayer South of Heaven, Megadeth for the Peace Sells album tour, Anthrax for Spreading the Disease and Suicidal Join the Army, that's high praise.
Saw Death in West Palm Bch, FL. All of the others were at the Cameo Theater in Miami Bch. That's where Cannibal Corpse was playing in Ace Ventura; I was an extra in the crowd for that movie, and saw Cannibal play there the next day.
Keep the Metal hard, heavy and brutal! Meatheads will live forever!

I am going to track that DVD down, load it up, skip to that scene, and if you don't wave to me, I'm calling bullshit...
P.S. One helluva show resume you got going, watched many of those concerts...on VHS tape...in my FAR north, Great Plains basement...
Including random Death music videos if the antenna was turned just right, in the middle of the night...thanks for the memories...
      Have a good one...

@@codymoe4986 Ha! I *think* I can see the top of my head in the Ace Ventura movie. I guess I'm not movie star handsome enough to deserve a full face shot! That's my buddy Jimmy stage diving though; the Skins were the only ones crazy enough to agree to stage dive on cue as many times as necessary. I think they got the shot in 3 or 4 takes.
Those other shows, man, we didn't realize how good we had it. Usually around $20 for a ticket to see, hear and feel history being made. I'd give anything to go back and live those days again.
Not only the heavy bands, but the classics too. The Hollywood Sportatorium in Florida was a giant metal building that had Van Halen, Maiden, Priest, Crue, Dio, Ozzy, all of them. Same thing, around $20-$30 a ticket. You could afford to go to a show, get wasted and get laid afterwards for about $100. Get a shirt, too.
Nowadays? Fμ©k. I went to a Rob Zombie show a couple years ago; tix were like $100, NO PIT ALLOWED, $10 beers, no smoking...fukkit. I'm watching bands on YooToob.
      Keep it Metal, Brother!

Death and Possessed were the bands that saw what thrashers were doing, came along, said they could do it better, and blew them all out of the water. There hasn't been a more substantial contribution since.
