Sammy, don't be worried about Marner leaving man. Whether it's the personnel or the contract structure... for 8 years this hasn't worked and we have 0 evidence to suggest it will. If he wants to stay for $12M AAV... cool. If he wants to go make $13M to $13.5M and play with Anaheim or Columbus or Chicago or San Jose... cool. The Leafs need to stop overpaying their top end talent. I can name 10 teams who have a player making $7M to $9M who are just as good as Marner. How many rounds have we won in the last eight years? If he leads us to a Cup Final... I might change my mind on this and say give him what he wants.

Kyper is dumb on Marner. He says Marner is = to Draisaitl. Regular season (25 points per year less), plus playoffs (can't hold LD's jock).....not a chance. Cap doesn't matter, he can't leapfrog Matthews or it will not only piss off Matthews, but Marner will be despised. If it happens, Leafs are toast. 5 years x $12.5 is just fine.

I rarely comment on particular guests you all bring on, but I liked this Josh guy, and I haven't seen him so often. LOVED what he had to say about the AHL goalies in Hildeby and "Aktiumov", the goalie who recorded to shutouts for the Marlies in his first 8GP. It really is a miracle in what we have in Stolarz/Woll. Woll is the future: this isn't a secret. The organization wants Woll to be the Leafs future starting goaltender. And even if he looks like he can play the part, and him and Stolarz are among the top 5-7 starting goalies this season, it's hard to imagine any scenario where this wouldn't be true. But we still haven't seen what would happen if Woll was forced to play 60 games, and Murray was his backup.
Point being, we have Stolarz for 2 years. When those two years are up, IF it is true that HIldeby and Aktiumov will continue to develop into these blue chip starting goalies for the Leafs (to pair or backup Woll in 2-3 years), why sell them now for a center? Haven't we seen enough evidence in the last TWENTY YEARS that the Leafs constant and never-ending failing has been good goaltending? It's impossible to name a better tandem for the Leafs in the 21st Century other than Stolarz/Woll, simply because we haven't had a better tandem than them. But we can't destroy our future goalies just because it "looks" like we are nice and comfy in net for the next 2 years!
We have a wealth of depth on the front end. A lot of it is middling, players like Grebenkin, Pontus, Robertson, etc. etc. I don't know, there's a reason I'm not a GM. If Josh is saying that Hildeby is the real deal, and he's currently our 3rd string goalie, and has the potential to grow and be this tremendous talent, I don't wanna see him go for a new center. And what would a team give you for an unproven AHL goalie, anyway? Nahh, I don't like it. We need a center. And even though we're strong in net right now, everyone knows it's the most volatile position. Goalies go down with injury, you're f---ed. Goalies go cold, same thing. We FINALLY have goalie depth and security. Let's not trade our 3rd stringer. There must be alternatives.

Edmonton did that last year in the playoffs, they kept McDavid and Draisatl on separate lines to generate more balanced scoring but if they found themselves down a goal, late in the third, then they would put them back together on the same line to try to tie up the game.

I forgot to answer the question
"Why would Crosby come to Toronto"?
Statements are released that he wants another Cup. He is frustrated in Pittsburgh right now because of the lack of competitiveness. With the Leafs current success especially without Matthews, it can be bate to encourage Crosby that adding him to Toronto could mean a serious contending charge for the Cup here in Toronto. If anyone feels that Toronto has no chance even with Crosby vs the likes of Florida, all I can ask, do they say Pittsburgh has a chance vs Florida even with Crosby? 🤷‍♂️
How can the Leafs afford Sidney Crosby? One way. Ask Matthews to take his time to recover. LTIR until the salary cap is lifted (playoffs). If ghe Leafs can do that (11 or 13 million to Crosby's 9 million). No need for Pittsburgh to eat any money. That gives the Leafs still extra for another player. If I were Treliving, I would even offer Robertson and maybe some other bottom 6 players who we are not absolutely in need of. As for sending a goalie? Woll? I would not be in favor of. However if that's all it takes, I would consider it because we still have Stolarz, Hildeby, Murray and a new up and coming Marley goalie Artur.
Ultimately, the deal they can make, bring Sidney Crosby here and if we win the Cup this year or next then send Matthews there.

It’s pretty pathetic how much time is spent discussing how much money players want or should be paid. It’s just a sports media story they can’t let go of. Contrary to what Kyper says, it’s definitely not been a distraction for a highly motivated Marner or the team who are playing great and more like a team. There’s no rush to sign Marner now. Wait to see if this core can go on a deep playoff run and how well Marner plays. We all know he’s an unreal talent and great regular season player but without playoff success, the Leafs would be fools to pay those three forwards almost $40 M a year. Save the next Marner pay day discussion until the end of the season. “We can and we will” don’t cut it no more.

Somehow Matthews didnt give a crap and blew it out of the water, talk about being hard on the team, not to mention how Tavares must've felt about it and then added insult to injury by stripping him and giving the "C" to Matthews. Yet all you guys act like it's just Mitch thats holding the Leafs back in the playoffs and conveniently and continually close your eyes to Matthews actual worse playoff numbers and act like the guy walks on water is just hypocritical.
