  • In this video, see how to find your catalytic converter and how to paint and etch your catalytic converter with our DIY steps.
    We recently had our catalytic converter stolen from our SUV. In fact, both buildings of our apartment complex had multiple catalytic converters stolen from the underground parking lot. Watch our DIY video to paint and etch catalytic converters and also find out what other measures we are trying in order to protect our catalytic converter.
    Whether you have had your catalytic converter stolen or are worried your may be a target for this crime, it may be a good idea to make your catalytic converter less desirable by doing what police recommend. One such recommendation is to paint and etch your catalytic converter so that if thieves are caught in possession of your stolen catalytic converter, they will be charged and your stolen property can be tracked back to you.

    NEWS FLASH- Converter thieves are not taking these converters to legit recycling companies. They are taking them to a fat ass guy sitting in a chair next to a shipping container and then being shipped over seas. They don't care if it's etched, painted, or boxed in. The best thing is to have a good insurance company

    • @FrakkingCreations
      @FrakkingCreations  Год назад +9

      The point of the paint and etch is to make it easily identifiable as stolen. Police have had to let crooks go when they pull them over with converters in their trunk because they can't prove they were stolen. If they are painted and etched, it can eventually be tracked back to the crooks when the converter with the ID etched is reported stolen.
      Also, if enough people paint and etch, it would mean a lot more work and time for the crook to have to sand/angle grind off. More tasks to do, more time to get caught, less time to perform more thefts, more hassle.
      It's definitely not fool proof and most things aren't when it comes to security. Your front door locks can be drilled out easily to then access your house but does that mean you have stopped using you door locks?

    • @smokinwithskruggs
      @smokinwithskruggs Год назад +2

      @Frakking Creations you make a good point with the door locks but these thieves aren't just your average person out to make a buck. It is a organized crime ring doing this. If it gives someone peace of mind painting n etching then by all means do it but these thieves could care less. Now if you want to make it more difficult buy building a steel cage around the exhaust then that is your door lock and may deter them to go to the next car but paint and etching, in my opinion a waste with these thieves.

    • @FrakkingCreations
      @FrakkingCreations  Год назад +5

      True that the thieves may not care anyway. When these thefts are happening so much people are just looking for things that might help. We actually have another video on 4 ways to prevent catalytic converter theft which also talks about installing cages and welding steel bars as other methods. A layered approach by using multiple methods is best but still not 100%.

      Edit: Plus some people have had theirs stolen twice or more. Each time having to deal with insurance and repair shops is time consuming and disruptive to your daily life.

    2:07 How did this paint hold up on the cat? Isn't it only rated for about 500-600 degrees? The stuff rated for 1200+ seems to only come in muted colors.

    • @FrakkingCreations
      @FrakkingCreations  Год назад +2

      Good catch and good question. Some of it did burn off but I'm not sure if it was because we didn't have time to fully cure it, as mentioned in the video.
      I have since then sprayed over the original coat with the 1200+ paint.
      Agreed that the higher temp paints don't have as nice colors. They tend to be matte versus the other one which was glossy florescent.

    You should call your video how to make it easier for thief's to steal your cat converter. first paint it a bright color so the thief's can more easily identify it and were to make the cuts. then waist your time and money and bonus possibly damage your catalytic converter by etching your license plate number on it suggesting it would somehow be any kind of deterrent to whomever the thief scraps it to. Bottom line here not rocket science your paint and etching bullshit would take under two minutes for any thief to sand off at there Leisher, the simple fact is the thief's buyer clearly knows there stolen and the person buying them from him know there stolen. and when they arrive in China the Chinese folks purchasing those containers full of cat converters to extract the metals to make new catalytic converters to sell back to the good oh USA. invest your money installing an actual shield. The longer it will to steal it the less likely it will be stolen simple as that.
