A confession... I have grossly unforgivably underestimated Rachmaninoff. I have just been schooled. How delightful to have had this experience saved for a time in life when I could linger in the fullness and subtilty.
I attended a solo concert he gave a few weeks ago. I sat mesmerized 20’ away. All the audience knew is it would be given by a Russian pianist. After it was over, I turned to a couple next to us who are college alumni and said “You just heard probably the current best pianist in the world”. His control and phrasing surpassed Ashkenazy at his best. His Rachmaninov is unbelievable. He is a master piano arranger with a large body of work. When we talked; it was apparent he worships Rachmaninov .
Absolutely astonishing... what an ear for inner polyphonic detail. Rachmaninoff of this quality, for me anyway, had previously only existed in my imagination. I simply don't have words to praise it highly enough. The soundscapes are not infrequently surprising and yet always beautifully revealing.
At last, a pianist that brings out the inner voicings and melodic lines, which unfortunately escape everyone else. Like hearing these masterpieces for the first time, especially #8 in D minor.
It is my favorite to play. Looks easy but those double notes require all that fingering and time. Continually inventive, poetic, challenging but incredibly beautiful. Gryazmov plays the Scherz. ending incredibly well, extremely clear. I;ve heard this taken at breakneck speeds or where the inner melody noted by Rach was not noticable or even a languid approach. This is a near-perfect rendition.
в этом исполнении не хочется ничего добавить, не хочется ничего убавить, всё звучит настолько гармонично,, и темпы, и характер, и звук! Просто, понятно и по-настоящему!
I absolutely love how you played no 2 and especially no 8! Those are my favorite piano pieces ever and your interpretation is awesome! Also I really appreciate that you don't grimace, you simply seem to be happy in your inner world of music. All the best to you!
Impeccable execution. A week ago I’ve never heard of this man, now I get the feeling that he’s truly second to none in technique and musicality. On top of that, he composes 😂
I have just been listening to the op 39 no 8 by many pianists and this one is absolutely ideal for my taste. Long lines held aloft by subtle pedalling and over-lapping phrases. I love the clarity of his texture and the noble tone.
Eleanor Harris I have played many of the preludes and several etudes and no 8 ranks near the top (with no 1 from the same opus). Incredible melodies (inner and main), polyphony, sheer Romantic lushness and that ending! Pure poetry.
I really loved your rendition of these three etudes. I liked how you let the last note play out in no. 5 and loved how you brought out that inner phrase at 14:42. Rachmaninoff always had a way with moving, heartfelt inner voices to his pieces.
The part from 14:15-14:40 in No.8 sounds so modern. Especially at 14:31 If you listened to that piece, you wouldn't expect it to come from the early 1900s. It's a very beautiful piece, they all are. My favorite of the set is No.5. I love the parts at 9:40 and the ending bit starting from 10:40. I could just fall asleep listening to that.
Adorno is a bit of a shithead. He said, ‘Rachmaninoff’s music is for infantil grownups’. What a level of non-understanding, I could not relate to you. Completely and utterly idiotic. This Adorno creature was the coordinator of a lot of the stuff that the Beatles did. Makes sense, considering how disproportionately blown-up the Liverpool four are.
The hands of a virtuoso and the mind of a composer.
Wow, someone actually picked my favorites out of this set. And here I thought I was crazy.

Wow you really played like a God here. The clarity throughout no.5 is unbelievable
That last etude is my favorite, and I find it really sad that it is not played more often.

Volodos plays it so good

Absurdly good. The tempi, the phrasing, all the intricacies rendered with subtlety and supreme taste.

Я обожаю произведения Рахманинова ! Вячеслав Грязнов,благодарю Вас за прекрасное исполнение !

Impeccable execution.

I had the exact same thoughts. This pianist is stunning.
I noticed that also. It's too beautiful to miss!
It's funny I'm really really into that etude's middle voices and I neglected to notice that line.
breathtaking playing.
Wow! Thank you so much for this video, Mr.Gryaznov! I really really enjoyed your rendition of Number 5.
Cantavanda i agree,,,,,,,
Love the way he brings out the middle voice here 14.43
I am waiting for the day you play op. 33! Thank you for all your incredible performances!
Many exquisite, beautiful moments. Inspirational playing! Thank you!
beautiful performance

Yeah Rach was ahead of his time I guess
I love your Number 5, sensitive, yet virtuoso, strait and without all the Clichee Rubati .
Deep feeling... thanks!
Beautiful playing.
Meravigioso !! Grazie ☺️
love it!
Amazing
Tres estudios espectaculares!
wounderful playing !
thank you
I thought Volodos was my favorite pianist but now I'm not so sure anymore.
Masterful!!
perfect
Exquisite!
6:55
12:01
bravo!
At last, a pianist that knows how to use the sustaining pedal during #5 and lets you hear the inner voicings of #8.
Bravo! =)
маэстро, не играй Рахманинова!! попробуй сойти им с ума..
Adorno was SO WRONG about Rachmaninov!
Sorry, but who the f**k was Adorno?
A musicologist.
Adorno wrote a lot of nonsense but some of his stuff (about jazz for instance) is straight up hilarious even if you disagree with him

No parece. Rachmaninov.
