I’m watching “High Ballin” for the first time right now. At the 17 min mark, when the truck is pulling up in the snow at night, you can clearly see the driver (probably Ed) duck down as Jerry Reed hops over him so it looks like he was driving. Hard to believe they left that cut in the film. But fun to see the “mistake”. 😄
I remember high ballin well .one of my favorite films. Was 12 yrs old.always wondered who was wheelin that ole k100 around....loved that cabover great interview flatbed red n Ed
So cool thanks for this interview… I’m building a 77 k100c high ballin’ replica in my shed here in New Zealand. Appreciate this bit of history from Ed what a legend!! And love the “freedom” sticker on his pickup too that says a lot✊🏻✊🏻
HighBallin is close to my heart for many reasons! First my Daddy was a truck driver! He hauled heavy equipment down in south Texas for many years. He drove several different Mack's! Second I love all old vehicles from the old days big trucks included! Third, I like Jerry Reed and his music and movies! Fourth,I like all of the old 1970s trucking movies! So this was a treat to learn about! Thank you!
Thank you people for all the nice comments. I'm maybe a bit subjective and prejudiced, but I think it was a great interview thanks to the very talented Ms. Flatbed Red, Thank you!!😍
Ed, after listening to your interview, you remind me so much of me. I'm still driving at 65, but like you, I think all the new regs, along with the demise of all the old shops and restaurants and truck stops along the two-lane being replaced by the super-highways and the mega convenience store stops have really made this business no longer fun. I've got a fifth-wheel RV like you, except I've got an old 82 extended hood KW to pull it around with. I'm really looking forward to when the wife and I can do that full time. God bless you, sir. And one day I hope that I get a chance to sit down and talk with you about "the good ol' days!"
Flatbed Red you knocked this out of the park!!!! Thanks for taking the time to talk with Ed and document this story!!!! Something that could have been lost to history. Thank you!!!!
What a LEGEND an inspiration. So sorry to hear of the loss of your wife may she rest in peace. It's amazing that many miles this man has helped the world out when it needed it the most...Thanks for SHARING with us.. may God bless him... 🖤 Thanks miss Red appreciate ya young lady ❤
Highballing was the movie that I thought was better then Smokey and the Bandit. And made Jerry Reed a trucker in my mind. Listening to his story reminds me of my dad and his trucking stories.
Very good interview, one of my favorite Trucking movies, I've never clicked on a video so fast, and now we know why Jerry Reed couldn't drive the truck, good information 👍, would've liked to known a little bit about Peter Fonda.
Awesome to see, I’ve watched high ballin a couple of times via youtube as I’m an 1985 baby and it was before my time, I love old trucks, cars and ways of life with some new age creature comforts, I’m an owner driver myself in western australia since august 2013, had five trucks in that time as my first three trucks were old 1978-1979 International & Kenworths and were pretty worn out by the time I got them, they kept me broke
Miss Flatbed always comes through with kickass videos!! Jerry Reed and “High Ballin” is a SICK damn movie!! One of my favorite movies of all time!! This man is a true damn truck driver!! That slidin turn is EPIC!!
I complement you on the interview very interesting but unfortunately it's only half the story. There was no mention of the 75 Western Star wrecker which in my opinion was the coolest truck in the movie. The Star is also wrecker of the month Overdrive magazine June 1976. This is where I did some interviewing of my own some years ago. The truck was owned by Larry's truck service in Stony Creek Ontario. I tracked them down the name had changed to I believe Little Bear towing. Anyway I called and they put me right through to Larry. Larry was a great guy to talk to and funny as hell in his 70s. He claimed they wanted the stunt driver (that I'm guessing was Ed) to drive the Star but Larry insisted on driving his own truck so the director said let him at it! It's his truck! I'm curious why no mention of the Star or who drove it in this interview. How about a part 2 or as Paul Harvey says the rest of the story.
@MissFlatbedRed so what your saying is the interview was solely about Ed and not the movie in general. Maybe you could have asked about the Star and he would have had a comment that your audience would have found interesting. Actually I always just figured it was Carey Loftin if you know who that is? Now there's a stunt driver.
Please let me be perfectly clear. I'm not making any accusations or calling anyone a liar but I am skeptical. For anyone that's remotely a fan of old trucker movies they would know the name Carey Loftin. Carey was renowned as a professional stunt driver specializing in driving semi trucks. His movies include Smokey and the bandit, White line fever, Dual and yes HIGH BALLIN according to IMDb and Wikipedia (no mention of Ed Wesselius) Now I'm just putting out the facts so as long as these sites are factual there is merit for this post. Were there two stunt drivers on this movie one a professional and one not? possibly. But I can't imagine why? But it's odd that Ed didn't mention Carey in the interview and he did say he himself did all the driving for Reed. Now if you Google "who was the stunt driver in High Ballin" you get Miss Flatbed Red's video for all the world to see. I sure hope out of respect for the late Carey Loftin and his family this interview is 100% factual.
Chill, dude. The Western Star you mentioned in your other rant was driven by the owner of the truck, Larry Marshall, who passed away last year at the age of 85. As I told you before, this interview was about Ed’s personal experience. Sorry buddy, but Ed was the main stunt driver.
You if you watch the movie stunt man make switch with Jerry reed he dunks in floor why Jerry read jumps out there’s miss up in that movie we spot it tonight

This is a great question 🎉😊❤ it's amazing to see Jerry Reed go by the stunt driver. Question: why was that left in the movie?????

Condolences on his wife passing. My father (R.IP.) went straight from the farm, worked for G.E. for 2 yrs, then drove 1969-2007. Support local business.
Nicely done 👍
I'm so happy that Jerry Reed and Peter fonda Michael Ironside and various actors came to Canada to do a awesome movie

Good job with the stunt driving, that would be tricky!

He wasn’t credited.
