    We have potholes in places that never freeze.

      Tony I’m no scientist, but water also expands in high temperatures, so maybe that’s how it happens

      FosterKid I think you mean: water molecules expand and are more looser when boiling. IDK either.

      Water soften the dirt below the payment, and when it comes back out, it brings the dirt with it, making a pothole

    Stomping asphalt into a pothole with your boot is not a proper way to fix a pot hole! Half of the potholes that are fixed are just as bad to drive over than if it were a hole.

    This isn't really the main cause of potholes, it's the city's own fault with the snow plow trucks. They add excessive amount of salt damaging the roads, and they plow down to ground scraping up the snow and the asphalt off the road. It's a main cause of potholes, especially here in the Midwest.

    Here in Michigan, if a road gets bad enough, they just say "fuck it" and turn it into a dirt road...

      cujoedaman pretty god Damn much! Have you driven in Holland?!?

    • @cujoedaman
      @cujoedaman 7 лет назад

      Lol, nope, but I'm sure it's not much different than anywhere else in Michigan :P
      I drive about a half mile down one road to get to work (have to because it takes twice as long not to) and it is literally a half mile stretch of patched pot holes, patches on top of patches, parts of the road actually disintegrated, etc. There is not a clear area that doesn't have SOME issue on it. I'm waiting for them to just tear it up completely, then I'll have to go the other way 'cause they won't maintain a dirt road as well as a paved one.

    • @nananooknak
      @nananooknak 7 лет назад

      cujoedaman exactly. I think they're better if repaving or gravel and then tar, otherwise it takes too long and costs too much imo. But, fill The hole for now lol in some places it's too busy but all the more reason! Question: can people file a complaint for damages from pot holes?

    • @abduallahalkhateeb9659
      @abduallahalkhateeb9659 7 лет назад

    • @xdragonxmasterx6790
      @xdragonxmasterx6790 6 лет назад

      Carla Clarke but would the diesel fumes float being a gas instead of laying on the road. I only other way I could see the pot holes form it from the wholes that cars leave on the road but even then it’s pretty unreasonable cause that would mean the oil out of every car that passes through that road would have to leave at the exact same spots everytime.

      Sometimes heavy traffic can cause it on soft asphalt. When vehicles sit too long in one spot the road begins to get deformed. If you go to any major cities around the world with public transit. The heavy buses cause depressions in the road which make your car feel like it's on train tracks.

    Speaking of chemistry class what makes the vehicle run and how often do vehicles leak gasoline how often do people spill gasoline filling up lawn mowers and tractors and stuff on the side of the road it isn't just the water because technically the tar in the asphalt repels water so it has to be weakened first with a solvent or extreme heavy weight of a vehicle

    potholes happen because the road workers do a shitty job in preparation of the sub base then put a thin coat of asphalt on top. Then they get to come back charge more money to do the job again.

  • @josephkreifelsii6596

    Why do the highways do better than other roads? Simple, the city skimps out. Pot holes can be more preventable if they build all roads with higher quality asphalt.

    The technology already exists. It has for many years. Thick reinforced concrete, asphalt on top, expansion joints, and with proper slope and side drainage. Just like on major Trans-Canada highways. Do once and never see a pothole in a city environment (major earthquakes excepted). Those highways experience incredible amounts of traffic each hour, with vastly changing Canadian temperature swings, abrasive snow removal and chemicals, etc. You name it and they take the abuse day after day, year after year. City roads would rather pay a little at first for a cheap job everywhere and repair forever. It's just easier to sell a cheap roadways to taxpayers than one built in affordable sections that will last. Of course, city hall always enjoys a reason to bump your taxes yearly too. But I doubt that's a consideration. HA!
