The reason both quartets had buses was because of J D Sumner who convinced James Blackwood to travel by bus rather than cars.
The Blackwood Brothers Quartet were the 1st group, secular or gospel, to own and travel in a custom coach. Their 1st bus was designed & built by J D.
Jake Hess talked Hovie Lister into acquiring the Statesmen's bus. Notice the similarity of both buses.
Their next coaches were specifically built for each group rather than converted commercial buses.
Thought you ought to know this!
Thanks for this information- I def had not been aware of this regarding both quartets! Very interesting!!!
@@SteveKrampitz when J D died his daughter Shirley ask me and our ministry to produce an A&E type special on his life. Additionally Billy and Jimmy Blackwood along with their mother Mim agreed for a similar project on James Blackwood's life. Because of our past relationships with both families we were the executive producer of both projects.
Both life stories were produced and aired both nationally and internationally.
Unknown to me nor anyone in our organization, both projects were submitted for evaluation and consideration of television and media awards.
Steve, MIRACLE OF MIRACLES both won Silver, Gold & one WON an international PLATINUM AWARD as the very BEST of all the submissions!.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!
The IMPOSSIBILITY OF THIS OCCURING FROM SECULAR EVALUATION, YET, BY GOD'S GRACE AND MERCY THE IMPOSSIBLE BECAME POSSIBLE 🙏 REALITY WITH CERTIFICATIONS & STATUARY AS PROOF. WE MUST BELIEVE THAT ALL THINGS ARE
POSSIBLE WITH GOD!!
One of the finest Gospel quartet albums ever recorded. Two of the greatest quartets of all time, in their prime!
Gracias por compartirnos este valioso material. Saludos.
Pure Gold. LOVE all these old songs...know ALL the words and sing along with great enjoyment !! STILL, the best. Wally Varner is outstanding !!!
Thank you, Steve Krampitz, for your continued dedication in getting more of these jewels available for all to hear...
'Lead Me To That Rock'.. One of the best arrangements and performances of this toe tapping classic. And a great album overall. It just proves the obvious that the Blackwood's and Statesmen were the premier groups of their day. Even by today's standards they are hard to surpass.
Thanx for posting this great album.
Golden age of Gospel quartets
Southern Gospel Music by the two greatest Quarters ever. Thank you..
Thank you very much Steve Krampitz for sharing these beautiful songs. I listen to the statesmen and blackwood for the first time, and I really liked them. I have enjoyed gospel music and every praise to God. I once read that these two quartets were Elvis Presley's favorites. I send you a greeting from Peru.
Thanks for listening!!
Love it! I want this album so bad! Thanks for sharing on here! Hard to beat both quartets, but, I have to stay loyal with my Statesmen!
A brilliant comparison between the diverse styles of the Statesmen and Blackwood’s. The Blackwood’s, with their more traditional style, but with Wally Varner’s flashier piano. The Statesmen with their searing, more complicated arrangements, and Hovie pounding out the rhythms. Then we get to hear the differences between each member as the two Quartets collaborate on two songs. Sensational!
Steve thanks for sharing vintage classic Quartet greats
