REMEMBER how Toyota were lying in the Crash Tests? Building tougher vehicles for the tests and then making sub par vehicles for sale. I've lost all respect for Toyota after that. It's actually comforting for me to see them suffering :) WELL DESERVED !! P.S. Did you know they have a Solid State battery? Yeah! It's called the "Imaginary Battery" :)
Idk, i saw a girl in a Camry get T boned by a truck and walk out without a scratch..
Over five years ago, when Toyota was announcing huge plans for their EV market, I was actually excited about it. Now I know it was just a ruse. They even had a foothold in the US market with having a Tundra manufacturing facility already in the US. Even though they had the market virtually cornered with the Prius, they chose to squander it away. They caused their own demise.
Kodak Car maker!
I don't think it was a ruse. I think they were trying and their prototyping efforts were just significantly worse than what was getting to market.
But they are not in demise are they?
@
They were working on hybrids and hydrogen technology behind the scenes the entire time. I can’t really blame them for it, because fossil fuel cars are more profitable, especially when you factor in all the maintenance and byproduct sales that are associated with oil; and going up against the fossil fuel industry isn’t easy.
@@sargfowler9603
They have the most debt of any other car manufacturers today, while the ICE auto industry is in turmoil. I would say they are in serious trouble.
Toyota having their Kodak moment.
I think they thought they can change the narrative to Hybrid but they are also realizing future is EV. They were first in this space but now near footprints of WV. Similarly, I feel market forces that are denying QunatumScape will see their Kodak moment soon.
Not only are IDRA (owned by a Chinese company) presses essentially bespoke, one of the most complicated parts, that Tesla has put a ton of thought into, are the molds themselves. Tesla was using a lot of send casting to figure out how to optimize and iterate on mold design, before going into production. The have also used a lot of computer modeling to figure out how the molten aluminum should flow through the mold.
The chickens are finally coming home to roost at Toyota. 🐔 🐔 🐔 🐔 Declining quality, severe recalls, catastrophically defective turbo V6 and Corolla GR engines, failing transmissions, poorly-engineered BEVs and a recent scandal involving falsification of safety certification data. I'm not sure Toyota's lawyers or its prodigious global advertising budget can save it from this downward spiral this time.
Just waiting for our old tyta to become antique ,
Ha ha ha , maybe a
Collectible .
If I remember correctly, Toyota said they will use the gigacasts for their Lexus vehicles. Lexus sells waaay to little of units for them to make this profitable.
Let me be clear: if an automaker cannot make a profit when the entire world is in the process of upgrading from ICE engines to EV motors, they are useless. When consumers upgrade from old tech to new tech, it results in huge boom for the industries concerned. For example: the switch from mainframe computers to PCs was so massive that we're still feeling the effects today; the switch from analogue to digital tech has spawned entire new economies (IT); even the switch from CRT television to flat panels, followed by HD TVs, followed by 4K TVs followed by 8K has rained profits on those manufactures. If the CEOs of auto companies cannot profit from the current environment, they are utterly incompetent.
A couple of questions arising from your comment.
When you say 'the entire world' is transitioning to EVs, are you including Africa, South Asia, Latin America and the former Soviet Union in that? If so, I must beg to differ.
I could be wrong, but the technology transitions you mentioned did not require massive government intervention to persuade people to switch to PCs and flat screen TVs.
Toyota appears to have played its hand quite cleverly. 'Net zero' is massively unpopular amongst ordinary people, and the US has just flushed it completely.
Early adopters and the well off have already got their EVs. The rest of us are either hostile or indifferent, which is why, in the UK, at least, there are thousands of massively discounted electric cars with no buyers. A tiny percentage of these are Toyotas.
@@nickyoung4799 Drivel. You must be an industry troll. How can net zero be ‘massively unpopular’? Absurd. Do people love pollution so much? Do they love paying a big chunk of their earnings for fuel? Toyota's BZ4X uses 96 large battery blocks of 201 amp hours each. Managing these large battery blocks is difficult in a vehicle like the BZ4X especially managing the heat produced. These battery blocks are normally used in home battery storage. This is why Supercharging is only up to 150kw as well as discharging at 150kw even for the dual motor version. Toyota have shown they really don't understand how to build an EV.
Toyota Charman and CEO is doing major cope. They have absolutely no vision, this year will be a major reckoning for them as their dominance will start collapsing one by one in south east Asia, here in Australia and much of global south.

I was excited when Toyota announced its solid state battery in 2014. Still anxiously waiting.........
They keep developing “industry changing game changers” with the solid state tech so they haven’t had a chance to release it.
But boy you wait til that happens…
Dear Toyota,
Keep doing what you're doing.....focus on Hybrids, PHEV , down-size engines...... and recall as many cars later.
BZ4X is their CHEVY Bolt
The Chevy Bolt is decent for what it is.
Toyota charger more and give you short range.
Wow. Kharmic retribution for the past 30 years of hubris and lying to the public is finally coming back to haunt Toyota...

Toyota will have to buy some BEV tech or fail. As for FCVs, they just lied, hoping ICE would continue forever. When the Mirai came out as a compliance car in CA and NY it was obvious Toyota was not behind FCV adoption because dealers did NOT have fueling stations.

Rebadging Chinese designs is really all they have now.
The Toyota Viking does it again 😅 Yet another post on how terrible the Bz4x is. We get it. I like your content for the most part, but there must be something more than bad Toyota and good BYD. Come on…
Well they dug their own grave. Companies come and go.
In 2023 they said every model would have a ev version in 2025 and that half their budget is going into ev dev. Guess not.
Blindingly obvious they are going to just rebadge Chinese cars now, they are so far behind it’s pitiful. Their only hope really is to be first with solid state that have long range, longevity and faster charging. Otherwise they will just wither away.
It takes more than just a good battery to make a good BEV. Its all about the software and efficiency these days
My '24 CCH AWD @70+% EV ratio in dead winter. Goes up warm months, so does MPG. No range anxiety 😂
Not just Toyota EVs, these issues apply to all EVs where I am at least.
Choice? So the new Camry only has one powertrain choice it used to have 3. How is that choice?
I recently bought a 2015 Honda Accord I4 6sp with 150k miles for my son for $9.985. I fully expect to get another 100,000 miles out of it.
Please show me a 2015 EV for $10k without any battery replacement concerns that will do another 100,000 miles without breaking the bank. Thanks 👍
2015 no but that 10 years ago.
@ that’s the huge problem with 10 year old used EVs. No student is going to risk buying one.
Only one way Toyota can expand its fuel cell market is to give away its patent and make other automakers start making the same thing. Right now, it owns too much patents on feul cell technology which actually stopped other companies joining this field.
I think there is another Elephant in the room
All auto makers aren’t dumb enough to make fuel cell
They could pay them to take it and it still wouldn’t work.
Too little, too late.
But there's still no infrastructure, who's going to pay for that, Toyota? Certainly not the tax payer's?
Someone should be able to swap out the fuel cell and replace it with a battery.
Seems Toyota are struggling. Lexus have sold just 39 LS400’s in the UK in the last 5 years. And just 3 last year. Last one out please switch off the lights.
At least in some country. Your option less car is really expensive compare to full option full performance EV car.
Again something out of the blue, no reliable news articles covering your claim. Nada 👌
does it mean that Toyota admitting why they have been so bullish on Hybrid narrative, knowing future is EV.
Had a 2007 Prius, they were truly ahead at the time. Then I got a 2017 plug in hybrid, they started falling behind but it was still a big PHEV market.
That’s it now tho, it’s the ages of EV. My next will be Tesla, bye bye Toyota . Once I have reliable charging network 😞
Where there is not a will, there is not a way.....
In other news, Toyota announces that its hydrogen Mirai is now getting more mileage per kilo of hydrogen than ever before. One Mirai owner drove a whole year without refueling once.
Oops, that Mirai owner actually ran out of fuel and couldn't find a hydrogen refueling station for a year so the car sat in the garage for a year. In any case, one tank of hydrogen did last a whole year.
And in more news, Toyota announces that hybrids are the future of EVs.
What is,up.with BZ3C?
Toyota should join BYD and it will be the biggest force in history
First! ⚡️🇺🇸
It’s a close call between the Germans and the Japanese as to who is the more deluded and misguided about the future of the auto market…both are incredibly resistant to change and equally headstrong….pride comes before a fall and both countries are heading for a horrible shock when their car industries collapse!
Having burned all of their R&D money on Hydrogen, and now likely under government pressure to merge with Subaru (also Isuzu), Toyota lacks the management bandwidth to sustain HSD tech, much less push into EVs. This is why they're moving to BYD Hybrid tech and can't develop a competitive EV. Toyota will do fine in legacy markets like the US and Japan, with limited success in the EU, but everywhere else, they're in very big trouble due to how fast the Chinese are moving. In a decade, Toyota will be an also ran.
I'm sorry to see this. Toyota's BX4X is not a bad looking car. I've seen them on the road. It's a shame that they're not so great. I test drove one and it wasn't bad. If only they had made this car as reliable as their old standbys, the Corolla and Camry! Toyota needs to STEP UP it's EV game if they hope to make any EV progress. BTW, they need to STOP their silly fantasy of hydrogen powered cars! Where are you going to fill them up with hydrogen?? At least with EV's, there are far more charging locations than for hydrogen! C'mon Toyota, get your EV act together!
FYI IDRA makes Tesla's giga presses so it was a good idea to get them from IDRA. the mold in the press needs to be made and can easily be modified. so getting the press is a big deal
Giga- texas has 2 9000 tone and 6 6500 ton presses.. giga shanghai 5 giga presses giga berlin has 8 and Fremont has 2. all from IDRA
so yes getting a giga press is important start
Attracting money is the first step .

I'd quite like a Lexus nx, can't afford one but I do like them....this won't help their sales but I'd have one if given one.
Two companies will survive this Electric vehicle mess and they are BYD and Toyota.
The Western monetary "currency floating system" is designed in such a way that when it starts to sink, it sinks all at once.😮
Toyota got greedy. They use to make affordable small hatchbacks. But they caught the American disease. Big cars. Big profits. Poor design and no innovation.
Statics are showing Australians are resisting buying electric cars and choosing either ICE cars or Hybrids. Byd Toyota EV Technology Co., Ltd. (BTET) are the leaders in Hybrid technology and like EV batteries, Hybrid technology is improving also, perhaps at a faster rate than battery technology. Byd/ Toyota claim their Hybrids will have a range of in excess of 2,000 km. So what are the buyers going to choose. Will it be an EV that costs around $50,000 and has an average range 350 km and a charging infrastructure that is not yet in place in Australia, or a Hybrid that costs around $40,000 and has a range of 2,000 km and all the infrastructure is already in place.
We will see how the market goes.
The hydrogen Toyotas would be ok if you could generate your own hydrogen at home.

Driving a Hydrogen bomb around …scary
I have never heard you say one good things about TOYOTA, but instead your are a great advocate of poor quality cars like CHERY. TIME WILL TELL IT ALL.
At least Toyota is omitting too its horrible EV problem and that's what happens when you purposely design a bad EV, now can Toyota fix the problem is the real question
Toyota is living in fools paradise
Yes they are true about North America and may be usa and 3rd world countries there transfer to electric vehicles may take another 10 to 15 yrs
In Europe also transfer to electric vehicles may take 10 yrs or more
The conservativeness of Toyota is so detrimental to its own business model to the point the company cannot innovate reliable even in its ICE and HEV areas where it was supposed to be top notch: problems with new engines and Hybrid Tundra for towing. When it comes to EVs its engineers were never allowed to do their best.
Tyta has decided ,
No Ev,
Just hydrogen .
But their hybrids amazing. Ask BYD. If you need a good coverage of China OEMs hit me up! I am cheap!
so incredibly simple - just sub all mfg to china - just need to produce a logo in japan and slap it on
Hollow victory, soon lost.
And viola , made in japan
A good buss model ,
Until it isn't.
Their pride is going to be their downfall. Essentially Toyota could add full ev models to 5geir existing Corolla, Camry and Rav4 lines by getting CATL skateboard platforms. Then they have some time to finish their gigacasting and new design cars. By not even offering an option theyre just givjng up market share.
I'm NOT ignorant Toyota! Hydrogen Powered vehicles are NOT the direction of the automotive industry so say to the world you screwed up, close down production and concentrate on producing BEV'S even though you are 10-15 years behind Tesla which I am a very happy owner of.
Toyota hybrid powertrain was good 5 years ago, but nothing new since then, and their EV tech is bad. Toyota software is terrible.
The only hope for Toyota EV's is that the new administration will set back EV adoption in the US and possibly give them some time to catch up. I do see quite a few BZ4X's in New York City as taxicabs and their current lease offer of $179 a month with $4,000 down is not bad. But Consumer reports rates them low on reliability which is Toyota's saving grace. I guess if you could get a low enough monthly lease payment ( lower than any other EV) and only use it for daily driving, it would be OK?
The new adm ,
Is screwing the people pocketbook and survivability.
Spend 35k of ICE or more for hybrid ,
While Dolphin and seal are just under 15 k .

But then ,
we are all pawns ,
No power ,

Need infrastructure for hydrogen. Doesn't seem to be happening. Too bad for Mirai owners, Toyota.
I'm hoping to sell Toyota my new Improbability Drive it weighs 4 grams charges in a minute and runs most vehicles about 600 miles. Do you think they will go for it ?. If they do I also have a Bridge in London for sale !
Current ev by Toyota is rubbish but will change patience will pay dividends for Toyota
The world is evolving too fast it'll not wait for Toyota.
How? Chinese EV’s are years ahead of Toyota, so how can they catch up if they can’t sell them outside Japan and the West?
Instead of talking smack, we should applaud Toyota for trying. China took years to get where they are. Encourage our allies and don't put them down. You are part of the ally block. We can still speak honestly about their up hill battles, but be encouraging.
As this company has been campaigning world wide against any attempts to clean up the environment - no we should not give them any licence.

It's about time Toyota admitted it has no EV game. If you can't make something desirable and competitive just stay out of the market. Keep making tailpipe cars. They may as well because their customers have socialized all of their anti EV talking points and won't be buying many in the future even when they are good. Toyota poisoned the well.
