I’ve used a Zircon stud finder... requires batteries. But Actually finding the nails and screws would be great. I’m doing a kitchen remodel and it would come in handy. Odd story... I’ve hit one of those screws when I was hanging a large picture once. With that kind of luck, I should play the lottery. I damaged my wall trying to put a large picture hanger in the wall. Luckily it now covered with the picture frame.. It’s only happened once. But I never forgot it. I also like the compact nature of that magnet finders you demonstrated... with NO BATTERIES needed. Thanks for your insight. I enjoy your videos.

You almost need all three types of magnets as each has it good advantages and disadvantages.

good tips. I bought a magnetic stud finder because I trust them a lot more than the electronic type. If you arent 100% sure you are in the center of the stud you can always just poke a finishing nail in there and you're good to go. Atleast that is going to be my approach

Very helpful video - thanks. I recommend making these shorter though, you could have done this in 3 minutes

I'm actually working on a scaled down version of a stud finding video that should only be a few minute long.

not a bad video, but i recommend using a better microphone. either wear a lavalier or headset mic or get a shotgun mic or something that won't pick up so much room sound. you'll sound louder and clearer and those sound effects won't be startlingly loud compared to the volume of you talking. i'd also try working from more of a script, even a loose one, so you can edit these down to something much shorter.

Center of screw instead of center of stub assuming wood construction?

Yes even with metal Studs keep in mind that the drywall is a 1/2 inch thick and so the screw head is actually sticking out a 1/2 inch or so from the metal stud so the magnet will still latch on to the screw and likely not even feel the stud at all.

God. I need to win because when I talked to my husband about the last stud finder video, he insisted that the best way to find a stud was to tap on the wall. Lord help me.

MediMediMary Yes banging on the walls an old school trick but unfortunately it only puts you in the ballpark it doesn't put you always right on top of an inch and a 1/2 wide stud. It is still easy to miss your target that way.
