- Having your RV Furnaces fail is no laughing matter and it can be a pretty bad situation if the temps are low and you have no back up. Always hope for the best but prepare for the worst.
@DestinationOpenRoad
We are a couple traveling full-time through out the USA. We live full time in our Heartland Big Country 29.50 5th wheel. Older video's show our adventures when we lived in our truck camper for 5 years. The move up to the 5th wheel has been an exciting move and our life style has changed just a little over the years of being on the road, all for the better! Have some fun and step back in time to when we first started our nomadic life style and then come join us as we continue to post video's here on RUclips and on Patreon.

The ol bait and switch! That sucks!
It was a misquote im sure.
You have a beautiful rig and a logical thought process to figure out issues. That will save you hundreds of dollars in the long run.
Thankyou and very true.
Yes, my husband is like Scotty, in that he always tries to fix things himself, first. And usually he can. And like you said, RUclips is so helpful, if you do run into something that stumps you. In the nearly 46 years that we've lived in our house, I think we've had to call a plumber twice! And in one of those times, my husband was out of town for his job. The other required a snake or whatever to clear a clog in an outside pipe leading to our septic tank. He also, can do a lot of electrical things. And even totally wired a tiny house sized storage shed, that is half storage and half office for me. He even put in the pipes needed for a propane heater we have out there, and had it checked by a professional to make sure it was done safely. It was! So yeah, I sometimes take for granted that he'll do his level best to fix anything that breaks down. But I know him doing that has saved us thousands of dollars, over the years! But he loves doing it, for house repairs, appliances, cars, you name it. Of course on cars now days, with so much that's computerized, there's less he can do himself. But he at least has a tool to tell what codes are showing, so knows enough not to ever be told something needs fixing, that doesn't. So even that saves us money. I'm sure Scotty got it up and running! 😊
oh sounds just like ausia problem with her heater u helped her fixed right!!!!
Ours is the motherboard
Old towel on the ground for the parts. Zip lock bag for the screws and bolts. Just a suggestion. It sure does help me from losing things and keeping the parts clean from dirt.
Very good point
I replaced the whole electrical board in my RV! It was easy but I feel so independent and proud of myself for figuring it out all by myself!! ❤😂
Awesome job, 👍👍👍👍🤗🤗🤗
Suggestion.. next time before screws undone lay down white towel on gravel… they will show up right where u are, or have zip lock where u are… never in pocket 😊😊..
👍👍👍👍👍👍
If something goes bad and I get a new board or pump or whatever, I always order 2 so I have a spare. Each RV will have its own specific little quirks, as you know and the same things tend to go bad. So I am ready the next time.
Good point.
Air in line
It won't get that far. It must spin the fan before it adds the fuel.
check the stove
Stove is fine.
Great video opening.
We would like to hear an energizing sound or short introductory message with a few words to compliment the video opening. "Best part of waking up is..."
Sounds good
If the motherboard is anything like a computer, it's probably a failed capacitor or two. Somebody on YT has probably figured out which one and has a video on the replacement. My brother could solder and replace those, but I had to be the one to figure out which one it was.
Im sure thats all it is
Start watching my Rv works
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
😊😊😎😎🤗🤗
Love your videos. I chose a pull behind because they had less electronics and so less to go wrong. We had nothing to go wrong and I’m glad we chose a travel trailer instead of a fifth wheel!
About two yrs ago our Sail Switch went out. Hope you get it fixed soon guys🤗
Working on it 😊😊😊
Never a dull moment…makes life interesting doesn’t it? Sending you lots of hugs prayers and kindness ❤❤❤
Thankyou and sending a few hugs back 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Sail switch
It wont turn the fan on.
You got that right thank God for RUclips and Google search
👍😊👍
bet it's warm in Florida ... ha ha ha 😎
👍👍👍
Preventive maintenance always a good thing once in awhile
So true 👍👍👍
I find it useful to hole punch the manuals and keep them in a tabbed binder, which always travels with me (along with all my tools)
Good thinking
Don’t you just love needing to lay on your belly to check the fusses. My husband is legally blind and I’m 72 with artificial knees and I’m the one on my belly checking the fusses .
😊😊😊🤗🤗🤗
Scotty don't you just love how the design engineers of RV's put the fuse/breaker panels down low so we have to get on our bellys to check them!! Why can't they have some common sense and locate them higher up?!! Good teamwork you two!!😎✌️
So true 😎😊😊
The best thing about an rv is you can drive somewhere warmer/cooler/quieter/busier.
So true
It's going to be awesome when you get that heater working again. All of us do-it-yourself people are rooting for you.🤞🏾😊👍🏾
Fingers crossed!
Next time you are near a harbor freight stop and buy a magnetic tray for your screws. My husband doesn’t lose them like before.
Good thinking
That style of fuse has contacts on the back to check for power across the points.
👍👍👍👍
Awesome video guys
Thankyou for watching
If a new motherboard doesn't solve the problem......Check your thermocouple to see if it is good. Good luck.
👍👍👍
😁😁😎😎👍👍
😊🤗😊 thankyou and have a great night 😎😎😎
🙋♀️🌻
Stay tuned everyone until next time for the results. Way to go you guys, keep us in suspense . 😮
We try and thankyou for watching 🤗🤗🤗🤗
I keep votive candles. Heat and light source in emergency. Of course, you must pay attention cause of fire but it keeps the chill off during day. Smile 😁 &be brave
Great tip!👍👍👍
You might want to check out your thermostat. Mine went bad but the heater worked, A/C didn't. The RV repair place told me I needed a new A/C unit. I replaced thermostat myself. All works great now. A capacitor could be bad.
The woos of nomad life. Hope you get it fixed soon. Hang in there Good luck
All is good
I'm sorry your heater died especially when it is so cold 🥶. I don't understand why the price was so much higher when you got there. You are very blessed that you are mechanically inclined and can do it yourself. Good luck on getting your heater fixed. Take care of yourselves and Punkin.
Thankyou and will do. Have a awesome day
I'm glad Scotty got a idea whats going on.
I try. 😊😊😊
Enjoyed seeing your video today!
Thanks so much!
Ya know everything is CRAZY right now good luck ❤️🙏🏻👍✌️
All will be food.
Wow, a simple dipole antenna!
That wire that Scotty pulled out is a dipole antenna for your radio it should have been mounted high with the with the ends stretched out like a “T”
So true 😊😊😊😊
Lol that antenna!
To funny
Have you checked the sail switch
Yes, its the motherboard,
Could be the relay on the motherboard.hope you get it fixed. Valley fever is no joke. Take care you guys. Get warm, stay warm.💗
I do believe it's a relay
@@DestinationOpenRoad , wish I was there, I've built electronics for 30 years, I'm not a tech but I could change the relay for you. It's about a 3$ item and takes only a couple of minutes to desolder and replace. Although ordering from the supplier is a pain. You can get them in a couple days from digikey. Keep the old one and if the new one goes bad it can be fixed.
“ they always work until they don’t.” I just had to quote Scotty, you all are just too funny . Happy RVing.
Its so true. 😁😁😁
Don’t forget to open a window when using the propane heater(Black Cat).
👍👍👍
Ours did that too they took the heater out and blew the dust out of it and it worked
Tried that, was hoping for the best
Oh my hope your able to get it fixed. Southern California has gotten a lot of snow as have seen it on the news. Plus there electric has been out. Hopefully they have there cars charged up. Got up to 81 today here but ready for the real hot weather yet. Interesting and thanks. Hugs to Punkin and Love y'all.
🐕❣❤🐕🐕❤❣🐕🤗🤗🤗🤗
Hate to see your having a problem I hope you can get it fixed soon. Stay safe stay Blessed ❤️
We will get it fixed soon. Come on summer
i see your manual for Norcold refrigerator, I'm having problems with mine
Most the times it's a small problem. Good luck 👍👍👍🤗🤗🤗🤗
On a central Air unit for a house it's usually a compassitator
👍👍👍
Wow! Hope you get it going without being robbed. That price is excessive and they thought they had you over a barrel so to speak.
I'm glad y'all walked away.
Good luck 👍
It seems a bit high price
Not sure if you replaced it already, used to replace boards on electronic equipment and sometimes you can clean the connections, I have found bad solder joints on boards but if possible best to put a new board in. I have repaired boards but then replaced them when I got a new board and kept the repair for spare. Hope you guys stay warm, safe and healthy.
👍👍👍👍👍
Hi from Australia, l have a diesel heater and it works great in my small caravan. Good luck guys , hope it works for you soon. My aircon died this summer and I’m in the tropics 🥵$2500 aud for a new one. Cheers
Hola back 😎😎😎
We had to replace the motherboard in our trailer years ago.
👍👍👍
You guys know this is what I do. If you need any help, let me know.
Will do thankyou
Murphy's Law!!😎
For sure
🙏❤️🙏
Unrelated. Maybe I missed one of your videos. What do you do for cell phones and internet?
We have Verizon it work good most the time. Have a awesome day friend 👍👍👍👍🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Don't blame yall one bit!
I appreciate your teamwork and diagnostic process. Hope you can get the motherboard at a fair price and that it solves the problem.
We're getting there 😎😎😎
Hey, Friend of mine said its could be the motor failed.
The fan seems fine.
Hey Scotty with the RV she got to have spare parts water pump heater board and one for the hot water heater to I have slide-out Motors in a bunch of spare parts that I keep in my rig this way I always have them if I'm out far away from anyting to get the parts
👍👍👍👍👍
Now if the phone would stop editting my comments it would be great sharkbites end caps of different sizes is another good parts to have trust me. The fan is 12 volt or 110volt model you can check it direct something had to blow or take out control board does it have a fuse on the board. Some do.
I've had to replace the igniter in my furnace - a few times! Replaced the sensor once. I was motivated by very cold weather and no moulah. Necessity is a great motivator. "it always works til it doesn't" 😂 Glad you guys are calm and haven't lost your sense of humor. I know you guys will always take the best care of Punkin! Bees?! - no thanks! Bait and switch price. Nope. Did you mention the price quote? I get most of my parts from Amazon, using the model and serial numbers. Isn't your rig, including your furnace, still under warranty? Will you be able to file a warranty claim? I hope so. Good luck! Hugs and kissies for Punkin!
It will all work out 👍👍👍
I have a small 150w space heater and a bigger space heater and a buddy gas space heater and 2 12 volt heated blankets lol
I make a terra-cotta clay pot candle heater with walmart shortening which has been awesome for me.
lol my heater has not worked in 2 years, I am NOT comfortable anymore with gas and the mice / rats in the desert chewing wires on ones RV.
Summer on its way. We hope 😎😎😎
Hope you can get it for a good price.
Working on that 👍👍👍
I hate when that happens! I installed a diesel heater in my 5th wheel, and it is fantastic. Going on 2 years with it. Easy to install and cheep heat. I did install a 5 gallon Jerry Can as a fuel tank. Cheers
👍👍👍
You do know with those kind of fuses you can check them without pulling each fuse by setting your multimeter on buzzer and check with your leads on either side of each fuse
Didn't know
I would install a diesel heater and use the lp furnace as a backup.
Really don't want to mess with a deisel heater.
We’ve been so spoiled the past few winters that this cold, wet and windy winter caught us off guard. I feel especially bad for all the nomads who don’t have a heater at all or don’t have the money to buy the fuel or run their car all night long. Drove down from Bremerton last week thinking the weather was about to turn warm but it’s not looking good for the foreseeable future. Probably headed home by the end of the week.
Safe Travels
Sounds like your Relay is working but the vent fan is not starting. Check to see if the vent fan has power or if the fan is stuck.
Fan seems good i think its tje mother board
Set a multimeter to the lowest possible resistance test and place the probes onto tips of the plug for the ignitor. If the multimeter shows infinity or stays at zero, the ignitor no longer works and must be replaced
Great info thanks 👍👍👍
Our furnace failed similarly as yall’s did. We got it fixed but I don’t remember what the actual problem was. I do remember that there are often problems with RV furnaces. I’m considering ripping the furnace out and installing diesel heaters instead.
No fun tearing things apart.
Your power box if your batteries are dead for blanket
No warranty on it.
So you have heat but no fan.
Its the motherboard
Hey, does it have a run capacitor that's usually what goes on the heaters
Not sure, i will checkout thanks
In the mean time, can you safely bypass the board and manually operate the furnace?
Not sure how to bypass
Fan has to work before it will light
True. The board isn't sending the single to the fan
What type heater are you using temporarily. I need a good heater to run off generator
Just a small 800 watt heater.
I just watched your video on your heater problem.
I had the same problem with my heater. Turns out it's the motherboard in your air conditioner. I had to replaced mine in Lake Havasu about 5 weeks ago, problem fixed.
I called the manufacturer first and found out the system (thermostat) routes thru the A/C before it goes to the heater.
I hope this information is of some help to you.
Great info i had the heater board check it came up no good.
Hello Teri and Scott. Yes going from $128.00 to $178.00 was a pretty big difference. I too would order it as long was the weather was not going to plunge colder. Good luck to you guys with the furnace repair and of course thumbs UP 👍
It will workout 👍👍👍
Could be a fuse
Its the motherboard
That's some good detective work, Scott. It's amazing what we can figure out with a $12 multimeter. 👍
So true
When you said, "I'm not going to click it on because Scottie's in there" I yelled, "TURN IT ON TURN IT ON, it's just 12V it won't hurt him, it'll make great content".
😁😁😁😁😎😎😎
Man I hope my A/C doesn't go out right now ! I'll burn up down here in Fla. LOL I told y'all to come and go to Florida with me . I literally broke out in a audible chuckle when you were saying , hold on Punkie , hold on I'm coming ! I know that feeling 🙂
So glad you're enjoying yourself 😎😎😎😎😎😎 have a awesome night
