According to Herodotus, the inhabitants of Argolis and Arcadia considered themselves the most ancient, and called themselves proto-Selenians. They allegedly lived before the appearance of the moon in the sky. They were probably the first to meet the Phoenicians and Canaanites, who sailed to Pelopolones and founded the first trading forts there.
