  • "Shipmates Forever" was a 1935, black & white movie, that filmed many scenes on the grounds of the United States Naval Academy - affectionately known as "The Yard." I have parsed through the movie and have included only the scenes that were filmed at the Naval Academy. It is interesting to see how much the Naval Academy has changed over the years.

I watched this movie on TCM on plain old cable tv about 3 months ago. I've been watching for it to repeat so I can video tape it. If you like this, you would also like flirtation walk about west point. Also set in the 30's before world war II. Also stars Ruby Keeler. Its a fun flick utterly lacking in cynicism and chuck full of idealism Bob M

The "1st Wing" and "2nd Wing" at 8:21 should be 3rd and 4th Wing -- there was no 1st or 2nd wing. Look at the T-court shot at 8:18 and 9:18

The Capt at 4:19, while not Capt Klunder, does have some resemblance to Chuck Larson.
Also, loving the commentaries. But with Dewey Field, where are the first classmen going to park their cars?

I'd LOVE to get this movie on DVD - if only for "I'd Love To Take Orders From You." By any chance do you know where I can get it?

Middle 3's puff-piece were they at least try to depict military life accurately. I especially liked the senior class-man that gave a cadet hell for saluting indoors and uncovered. A mistake made in most films about the military. But they could not represent the hell the lower class-men have to go through during their four years at the military academies. It's grueling.
