PLOT: When a retired opera singer leaves her inheritance to her cat, Duchess (Eva Gabor), and three kittens, the woman's butler drugs the cats and abandons them in the countryside in order to inherit the fortune himself. Lost in unfamiliar territory, Duchess and the kittens meet Thomas O'Malley (Phil Harris), an alley cat willing to help them return to their home in Paris. They meet several kooky characters along the way, including two English geese and an alley cat jazz band.

I always loved Adelaide…she was such a classy, beautiful old lady. Most likely she was very beautiful when she was younger…surprised she never got married or had children.
Absolutely. She was an Opera actress. Truly THE socialite, no wonder there’s an aristocratic, graceful aura around her even in retiring years.
You can be a beautiful and graceful woman and choose not to get married. Her chosen children were the cats. Women can do other things in life besides be wives and mothers you know.

Love how you know there’s chemistry but they valued their friendship way more than that
I wish Disney would go back to this beautiful levels of animation. Even if this movie wasn't well received at first I'm glad it has a cult following. It's one of my favorites and was one of my favorites even as a kid. My siblings and I watched it and rewound the funniest parts over and over. Simpler times.
You can tell George is a good person because the kittens are excited to see him :D

It's a technique based around photocopying drawings to animate scenes, mainly done to cut costs on animation.
Me too. It's such a beautiful style. I love the 3D style but this style is so special that it doesn't compare.
God, you gotta love the animation style! 🤩 Even in the movie, you can still see a bit of loose sketch line, the amazing expressive looks on the characters’ faces, especially Edgar. I’ve always loved his expressions. 😂
Also, at 1:30 Marie was sitting on the Mistress’s dress, which I thought it look so cute. Lol
Life lesson about this film. Never ever tell anyone, not even your close friends and family members even your maid or butler that they are benefactors in your last will, never ever tell them that they're getting some kind of inheritance.

Even if everything's going to the cats, obviously they can't do anything with it, so it'd be going to Edgar anyway as their caretaker, he could do whatever else he wants as long as the cats are cared for, which he can hire other people for.
I was thinking the same thing. The cats have their own room and wing of the mansion. He could take the main suite.
So basically if he used more common sense and didn't assume, he wouldn't have turned into a villain and then lose everything

You've got to feel for Edgar. I mean she's a crazy cat lady who's basically going to tell her butler he's going to serve a family of animals for the rest of his life. I'd be indignant too, even if she did leave me something in the will. I wouldn't resort to crime but still!
I like how even the eccentric lawyer is skeptical of the idea.
With his position he would be taking care of the cats, which would put him in direct charge of the money anyways.

I always thought that it was along the lines that whoever adopt the cats after Adelaide's passing would be contractual obligated to make sure they are well-loved and taken care for, otherwise the money is theirs to spend. Indeed, nobody would be more qualified to care for the cats then Edgar. Tbh, he probably was just shooting himself in the foot because his backwards understanding of how long cats live.
Technically speaking the money couldn't really go to the cats. If anything Adelaide was basically naming Edgar her pet beneficiary and if he was to take care o the cats he'd get the money anyway. Likely he'd have to condition to make sure the cats were well taken care of legally until their deaths.
I mean... Let’s face it. Edgar’s room is terrible, and, for that alone, Madame should be ashamed.

So, this whole movie happened because Edgar doesn't understand legal jargon -- or biology?
She left it to Edgar on the condition that he take care of the cats.
If it weren't for the explanation at the very END of the movie, after his defeat, I would've said Edgar had a valid reason to crash out.

Wow even Disney movies they show kids how money could easily change someone go totally mad and crazy. Because Edgar wasn’t so bad at the beginning he seemed kinda cool with Toulouse playing with him through the carriage ride. But the second he heard the cats inherited first he went to a total douched. The will should be since Edgar is Madame Adelaide most trusted butler and she has no family relatives he should get Madame Adelaide fortune if and only if the cats are being well taking care of if not then he’ll loose everything. I think that’s fair everyone wins.🧡
I want to see Lady Adelaide as Carmen. But her will makes sense. She knew that Edgar was there for the money so she can make sure that the cats are taken care off after she dies.

She thinks of her cats as her children so she treats them as such. Edgar was a complete idiot though because he believes in the old wives’ tale that cats live 9 lives which means he’d be dead before they were.
More than likely she wishes that money be used to take care of her cats to whomever she chose to be their guardian/caretaker.
