She had to keep constant tabs on them, because if they're in a different room, they could be causing trouble. But if Lady DOES anything about it, she gets in trouble.
good point, even tho I was not scared of them...was Disney being sexist? WHY DO I CARE! fun movie. I am scared of reality. My cats one BIG dog and a small gun protect me.
My siamese is better fed than myself, but he's obsessed with stealing food - even if it's food that he doesn't normally enjoy. For example, if I present him with a fatty piece of meat he would look at me as though I offended his ancestors by eating the lean meat and offering him the scraps. If I leave a piece of fat on my plate and go away for a while, not only will he steal it from my plate but also he will eat it with pleasure as if the act of stealing it made it tastier 😂
Cats dgaf, you can feed them the best food but they’ll still want something else. Then when you give them something else, they decide they want _their_ food. When I bring home a new bag of cat food, one of my cats will tear it open acting like he’s starving even though it’s the EXACT same food he already has in his clean bowl. So these two jerks are just being typical cats 😂

Siamese cats are fcking awesome. They are gorgeous, brilliant, and incredible people cats (they love sleeping on laps and following people everywhere and lots and lots of petting). They will play "fetch," come when they are called, run to see who is at the front door when the bell rings, talk to you incessantly, open every door in the house, and open every box that arrives at the front door.
As a kid I felt bad for Lady. Now I know that Siamese kitties rock, and the girls here are cool-as-hell evil geniuses that effortlessly outsmart the dumb dog.
I've got two Siamese cats right now, sisters from the same litter, only now emerging from kitten stage. This cartoon is just an amazing characterization of their actual behavior. Of course my cats aren't quite as evil as these cartoon characters, but they do team up together and play off each other like that.
Was it just me, or did anyone else, when they were little, think they where going to EAT THE BABY!? That was traumatizing, now watching it again its like 20X less scary.
justin daniels You don't fully comprehend everything in a movie when you're a child. Once again, completely understandable to think the cats would harm the baby do to their naughty nature in this movie
Peggy Lee would have been shocked to hear that this song is now considered racist. The cats themselves, Si and Am, couldn't care less: "We are Siamese if you don't please."
This was written during WWII when racism and genuine hatred towards Japanese and other Asian people was at its highest in the US. The US bombed Japan twice only ten years before this movie’s release resulting in hundreds of thousands of innocent people dying. Disney is also no stranger to racist depictions. Their names “Si” and “Am” some people consider racist because they play into the stereotype of Asian people, especially the Chinese and Japanese having short, few-letter names. Their accents and the broken English play into racist stereotypes, as well as their buck teeth and the stereotypical gong music. This movie started being written around 1937 when a Disney artist at the time named Joe Grant came up with a story about his dog Lady being jealous of his new baby. Walt Disney loved the idea of it and it went into production. Then he bought the rights to a story published in Cosmopolitan in 1945, ‘Happy Dan, the Cynical Dog’ that added the Tramp to Lady and the Tramp. It was apparently also his idea to add two Siamese cats to cause a few problems. I don’t think there’s much of an argument against it being racist given the stereotypes he used and, y’know, it was 1945.
@@yote333 True, except the US was also protecting the millions of other Asian people that the Japanese Empire had overrun and enslaved. Of course there was anti-Asian sentiment in the US, and with so little exposure to different Asian cultures in a mostly monocultural Eastern US, it makes sense that most regular people didn't know that so many different Asian cultures existed. And you're right about the horrific things the US military did during World War II. But here's the thing: The Japanese Empire was the aggressor, and it treated its POWs and other captives far worse than the US did. Read about the Rape of Nanking and tell me how well the Japanese military treated its Chinese neighbors. There's a reason that many people from other East Asian countries still don't trust Japan.

+Ryan Collins cats have poisonous saliva and that is why they kill rodents when biting them. If a cat bites you and the poison kicks in, you could be seriously hurt. Look it up on google. I thought it was false the first time I heard it too.

This used to annoy me like crazy as a child! They are slightly scary too! I only get the little jokes and banter now I'm older - it went over my head as a child - like 1:24. They remind me of that witch character from the Black Cauldron? (The pink/purple one?!)
Your comment only makes me wonder if you actually understand their banter now since 1:24 is not a joke. "If we sneak upon it carefully; there will be a head for you... A tail for me." They are talking about eating the fish, it isn't really a joke. Also I am not sure you have seen the Black Cauldron since the pink and purple witch you speak of is undoubtedly Madam Mim (from the Sword in the Stone); the Black Cauldron has a trio of Welsh witches (and one big, scary Horned King, the real scary part of the movie).
KrasseOdaVonBayern the joke is, one cat offers the other the fish's head, "a head for you", and the other cat suggests taking the tail as well, "and a tail for me". The second cat is talking about taking the whole fish for itself, leaving none for the first cat, same with the milk later in the song.
+Jonathan Gibson: That not only has nothing to do with it, that doesn't make any sense. Cats will eat both the head and tail of a fish without qualm; I have personally watched my Siamese eat the eyes of a fish. It isn't a joke, it is them being a villainous DUO. "Plenty milk for you... Maybe some for me?" How does that even sound like he/she (I am not quite sure what Si and Am are) is going to take it all? The joke is that they are not only going to eat the family's pet fish, but also their pet bird and steal the milk from the baby. English isn't even my first language and I can pull this apart and understand it in more mature language than EITHER of you. (Probably because I am a writer who specializes in double entendre)
omg....nice humble brag, but this has nothing to do with double entendre. I can't believe I'm wasting my time debating the lyrics of a 60 year old Disney cartoon song with someone for whom English is not their native language. I'm going to make this as clear as I can and use small words so your limited English vocabulary can understand it, then I'm done, if you don't get it after that, I give up. Firstly, no one is debating the fact that these cats are villainous, that's obvious. Secondly, its painfully obvious to EVERYONE that these two cats have intentions of eating the bird, the fish, and the milk. What the original poster was (I believe) referring to was the banter BETWEEN the cats themselves. Beginning at 1:24. First cat says "a head for you" ("you" meaning the second cat), the second cat replies, "and a tail for me?" That's it. That's the entire fish theoretically being eaten by the SECOND cat alone, with none being left for the first cat, who suggested they split the fish to begin with.Do you get it? THAT'S the "joke", not a joke, like "knock, knock", but a subtle implication that the second cat is taking advantage of the kindness of the first cat and is also greedier than the first cat. One last try on my part, if two halves of a sandwich were put in front of you and me, and you said to me, "oh look, half for you", and I cut you off and replied with "and half for me!" I'm not just repeating what you said cuz I maybe didn't hear you, I'm implying that I want to take the whole sandwich! That's it. I'm done. Maybe the original poster can back me up here.

I had two Siamese cats and they were just like Si and Am. Mischievous and cunning. Just like Si and Am, they ganged up on our poor dog all the time. I don't see this as racist at all, but pretty close to what Siamese cats are in real life.
It depends on the cat and the dog. In our situation, the cats had been there longer than the dog so they saw him as an invader. I suppose if you get a cat that has been raised with dogs/ or a kitten and your dog is good with cats then you shouldn't have too much of a problem. Introduce them smartly and slowly and there shouldn't be problems.
@Jackie Lest Well, cat's gonna cat. If there's something to hunt, they'll hunt it. Not a matter of being good or evil, just of instincts telling them to go chase, play with and kill anything that's edible, chaseable and killable. That's also why they play with cat toys, it engages their hunting instincts. They also give gifts because they think you're a crappy cat that can't hunt for themselves so they want to feed you and teach you to hunt, which is actually really sweet in my opinion.
They knock down everything! Mine knocked down a coffee maker! That took some work! I had it on the kitchen table. They think the table is their territory and should have nothing on it. I swear I'm going to superglue things!!!😁

Of course not, but surely you can see how someone could INSINUATE such a thing. @@teetooo000 It's because they look and talk like the stereotypical Chinese person. It wasn't classed as racism or even offensive to anyone back in the 50s. Back then, it was normal to portray some characters as a certain stereotype. So they ARE Asian, so that's why they decided on making them Asian in the first place. I guess they really wanted their audience to know this unfortunately cast a strong accent that might come off a bit ridiculous. Thai music adopted Chinese elements so the background music itself is probably just traditional Chinese/Thai inspired. They didn't intentionally want to specifically make Asian people the bad guys, for example they have an Siamese cat in Aristocats who is not a bad guy! l thought yeah its very outdated depiction from perhaps THEIR own knowledge of the country at that time(pure ignorance at its finest), and obviously cant be included in the remake unless they really do it right/more modern and learn the proper culture they intend to depict. The problems are White Americans dont take the time to learn the differences between the Asian cultures, its a real shame."

ᴜɴɪǫᴜᴇ Eh, Siamese cats actually do have slanted eyes in real life. Or at least, far more slanted eyes than most other cats. Seeing as how their other features are already exaggerated, the eyes are clearly just that; an exaggeration of a feature they already possess.

When I was little I never found them creepy, I found them amusing. Of course I understood that they were supposed to be bad characters but I’ve just always thought it was (in a bit of an evil way lol) cute the way they worked together and in sync.
Stereotypes aren't racist if used in a blatantly comical way. Also siamese cats DO have slanted eyes, and they DO have triangle shaped faces. So it's not very stereotypical unless you mean cat breed stereotypes. Because in that case yes, it is a stereotype that siamese cats and cats in general are evil, and they are not.
if you think siamese cats have "slanted eyes" i don't know what kind of cats you've seen in your life but i'm glad i'm not you. siamese cats, both traditional and modern, have round eyes. also, siamese cats don't have big buck teeth... these are very obviously asian stereotypes put in a children's cartoon so the adults can laugh at the ~lol stupid asian cats!!!~ with flawed english. there's no way to turn that around. racist stereotypes are still racist stereotypes, no matter how much you like the movie or how old the movie is. that being said, i'm asian and i like the cats too. you can like something but still acknowledge that it's problematic

They replaced the Siamese cats with regular looking grey tabby cats and the new song had an upbeat kind of New Orleans jazzy vibe to it. It was cute, and catchy. I kind of rolled my eyes when I saw they replaced it, but I understand why they did it. It’s 2019. Things and views change with every generation. The only thing about Disney and race that Disney pisses me off about is how they pretend that depictions of racism never happened in their films, or that racism wasn’t a thing, and that they never took part in it. Warner Brothers, on the other hand, and in my opinion, addressed it correctly with their old, racially insensitive cartoons. They included them on the anthologies but acknowledged at the very beginning of the DVD that this was a thing that happened, and although it’s wrong, to shuffle it away to the ash heap of history is like saying “it never happened.” Disney just quietly tries to sweep it under the rug and hope nobody past the age of 30 ever notices. Why not use it as an opportunity to be educational, and to start a discussion as to why what was made back then may seem insensitive and inappropriate now?

She had to keep constant tabs on them, because if they're in a different room, they could be causing trouble. But if Lady DOES anything about it, she gets in trouble.
We Remotely Low I was just telling my friend this part always creeped me out. Glad I am not the only one.
but she was coddled and got the Tramp in the end.
good point, even tho I was not scared of them...was Disney being sexist? WHY DO I CARE! fun movie. I am scared of reality. My cats one BIG dog and a small gun protect me.
Sue T. How is anything in here sexist?
I did not say it was sexist, I asked was Disney being sexist? Lady being a girl dog they cats are asexual...IDK just a thought? Nothing serious.
I just realized, they spend the whole song trying to get something to eat (the bird, the fish, the milk). Aunt Sarah, feed your cats!
Yeah!
I think cats sometimes kill for the lolz. I have a kitten who did just that when he clawed a cockroach to death and left it on the ground.
Do you see that thing swimming roun and roun?

Siamese cats are fcking awesome. They are gorgeous, brilliant, and incredible people cats (they love sleeping on laps and following people everywhere and lots and lots of petting). They will play "fetch," come when they are called, run to see who is at the front door when the bell rings, talk to you incessantly, open every door in the house, and open every box that arrives at the front door.
As a kid I felt bad for Lady. Now I know that Siamese kitties rock, and the girls here are cool-as-hell evil geniuses that effortlessly outsmart the dumb dog.

@@yote333 not racist song is a W
Ultimately, cats of any breed or mixed breed don't care about racism. Cats just want to be fed and loved like ALL of us.

To be honest, I didn’t pay much attention to them as a child, but now I like them. I love cats
This used to annoy me like crazy as a child!
They are slightly scary too!
I only get the little jokes and banter now I'm older - it went over my head as a child - like 1:24.
They remind me of that witch character from the Black Cauldron? (The pink/purple one?!)
you mean .. like the cats playing 'innocent'?
I love siamese cat, but these two are so badass xD

Agreed, in a historical sense, racist. But in cat-terms, pretty damn normal.
Aw I was thinking about getting a meezer because I thought they were good with dogs :(
It depends on the cat and the dog.
I have a Siamese and that is why I can't have nice things!

Siamese are very sly, smart and always up to mischief so it was very fitting to use them, Siamese are also originally from Siam(Thailand). They didn't intentionally want to specifically make Asian people the bad guys, for example they have an Siamese cat in Aristocats who is not a bad guy! l thought yeah its very outdated depiction from perhaps THEIR own knowledge of the country at that time(pure ignorance at its finest), and obviously cant be included in the remake unless they really do it right/more modern and learn the proper culture they intend to depict. if you think siamese cats have "slanted eyes" i don't know what kind of cats you've seen in your life but i'm glad i'm not you. siamese cats, both traditional and modern, have round eyes. also, siamese cats don't have big buck teeth... these are very obviously asian stereotypes put in a children's cartoon so the adults can laugh at the ~lol stupid asian cats!!!~ with flawed english. there's no way to turn that around. racist stereotypes are still racist stereotypes, no matter how much you like the movie or how old the movie is.
that being said, i'm asian and i like the cats too. you can like something but still acknowledge that it's problematic
too add on to this, this movie was made in the 1950’s
Stereotypical of Siamese cats :) LOL
This scene always creeped me out as a kid...for some reason, this song got stuck in my head the other day and I hadn't watched the movie in almost thirty years.
This is hilarious! I have a Siamese and a Balinese cat and both of them always have something up their sleeve. I sing this song to them all the time. In this movie Si and Am are not evil, mind you, they are just being....well. CATS!
Yeah baby!
@@madisoncastle5138 which one is si and which one is am because I can't tell them apart from each other
@mehchocolate1257 the one that move close eye is si and the open eye is am
0:26 look here
Did this scare anyone else as a kid? I was convinced they were were going to try and hurt the baby. 😅
@Lenzo Van Laeken oh, now that is just plain stupid, politically correctness bullshit! I'm more concerned with how things affect the way the breed is percieved than any imagined racism. Either way there's no reason to remove the scene from the movie! 😡
Yeah same
Ikr!
I taught they wanted to eat the baby lmao
I am a grandmother now ,, & after all these years I'm still enchanted ,
So do I.
The siamese cats kind of remind me of Hikaru and Kaoru
Omg yesss
ITS UR PROBLEM IKR
oh yeah
Shit not even a weaboo could even tell the obvious racism of Asians in this
Oh my god
yup
Grew up in a country that thought cats were witches, so this haunted me as a child... I actually love cats rn tho
in which country were you born?
@@syprex5636 Nigeria, its been rumored that cats are used by witches anf witches turn into cats, so a majority of us are afraid of or hate cats
Thailand
That’s right!
Yeah in Nepal when I was a child they used to say witches transform into cats, even then I loved cats.
Creepiest cats I've ever seen. Gave me nightmares for an entire month when I was a kid -.-
Ahah, me too!
If this scene gives both u guys nightmares then u guys are really mentally weak
justin daniels this scene is eerie and creepy as a kid so it's completely understandable to give a child nightmares
It would've been funny if the cats were siamese by that I mean attached to each other
i also thought about that xd
At times they are
I think Disney did that...not literally,but they are like brothers,they are f*cking..
*SYNCHRONIZED*
My favorites villains..
I love Siamese cats! They are sweet, loving & funny. They should not be portrayed as evil!!
I completely agree, SL. Thanks for sharing!
They are kinda bad tho because of how nosey they are. I have a Siamese kitten named Ivory and he doesn't know when to stop being curious.
What?
@@AxisChurchDevotee I have a domestic shorthair and even though he's old, he's still overly curious
I don’t think they were being portrayed as evil, just mischievous twins who like to cause troubles for others but never actually harm anyone
I own one of these little evil bastards as you can see in the picture, wouldn't trade her for the world!
She is beautiful.
Thank you!
