The GOAT, I saw him October 11, 1986, at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Columbus, Ohio. He took a few minutes and spoke with me in the elevator, I was about 17 years old and he joked around and gave me some pointers. Later at the VIP dinner with Arnold he saw me again and gave me a thumbs up, no ego just a cool cat.

I would pay to watch a live interview with Lee and Dorian. I mean not just to hear about competing and training, but just their views on life and how to stay focused in any life endeavor.

Lee might be the GOAT. For me Arnold is still #1 but Lee could be considered the GOAT. For a long time he won the most Mr. O's but he also had a physique that I would want. Ronnie just got too freakishly big IMO

Most down to earth person i ever met. A real Mr Olympia!
That's because you never tried to work for him, nor did he ever try to push the local talent back in the day when he had his gym.

Always enjoy listening to Lee Haney speak. Always respectful, not talking crap about others. And I enjoy that he tries to offer insight about what he's asked.

Mr. Haney is THE nicest, most humble bodybuilders I ever met. So professional, loves his fans, works overtime just to make sure everyone gets a FREE autograph or pic with him...top notch great gentleman. Thank you Mr. Haney for our meeting at the 98 Arnold Classic.
I've had the honor of meeting and talking with both Lee Haney and Dorian Yates. There are a lot s guys with the "swim or sink" situtation in their lives and have the "heart" but very few have the "genetics" to be a Mr Olympia. I've had friends with "Mr Olympia" genetics but didn't have the heart. If you don't have the genetics do something in life, do something that you have genetics for.
This is what a real champion looks and sounds like. God bless this humble man.

Lee Haney is a class act. His back was far superior to all of the other competition. I always felt bad for Rich Gaspari, could never get past Lee, but no one else could either.

Lee Haney is right. Dorian had very limited resources. And that's why once he made it to the top several times over, he called it quits before the sport began to take a toll on his body long term. Love Lee and Dorian .. I could listen to them for hours.
I just watched a video where Dorian was very humble and apologizing about a fight he almost had with Lee Haney

Lee haney wasn't massive but had great structure, great lines , astetic , great conditioning and simetry to his body and was also a good poser . One of the best of all time .
Imigine if he compete nowadays with more updated drugs, he would be larger

He was big from his era dummy.. guys like lee labrada no one was close to his size in his era look at 1991 mr.o he made Dorian looks small, if you compare him to markus ruhl ronnie coleman or big ramy yes. But thats diff era
At a speaking conference, Yates said the first time he saw Haney in person he said how in the hell can he ever beat a man with a chest like his.

But it looks like you could never get close to Ronnie Coleman....his outstanding and outhanging and protruding gut would get in the way.
Phil Heath has the same problem....these are not bodybuilding problems...these are genuine maternity problems. Scientific research and obviously visual facts.

Steven Herreitt. I agree but feel if it came down to one of the two sitting down and having a conversation about body building. Lee would be the more humble one with respect and knowledge while not having quite cocky of an attitude. I have full respect for both. Don’t get me wrong but Ronnie seems to always boast about himself rather than in general. Jay Cutler seems to be the same way. I have a lot of respect for him too.

When Lee Haney retired, so did the small, tampered waist with perfect symmetry. Dorian and Ronnie looked the best in their beginning then they transformed .
Yup genes....mr olympia swells up like crazy after just a few months of serious training in their late teen years.
and swells like crazy a lot more after "just" a few years of 'roids in their early twenties years

I don't think they in general highlight Lee Haney enough in body building, first and only 8 times undefeated Mr Olympia that retired at age 31 is truly amazing🤔... Who else have done that?

He is right... Mr Olympia are born, then comes the hard work. And Dorian did not have choice. He had to win..... it was sink or swim situation for him.
I consider Ronnie the GOAT. As for #2, #3, and #4 there is a lot of debate in order between Arnie, Yates, and Haney. I consider Cutler to sit in #5.

Lee was above the rest in terms of bodybuilding.period. 8 x Mr O in a row, prove everything. Imagine if he not retired early.
Dorian had a way tougher line up to go against. He's on par with Haney even with six Mr. O's. And then there's Ronnie and Arnie that you're forgetting about.
Lots of bodybuilders say you have to have the genetics but they never say what those genetics are?
It can be a number of things really. Skeletal structure, muscle insertions, growth potential and all that. Steroids are a key factor too, but if you have bad genetics, then you can still look good and probably be an amateur bodybuilder but you won't be Mr. Olympia.

The great Dorian Yates ultimately was a product of the true bodybuilding chemist the great Mike Menzer. Mike did with Dorian's body what he wanted to do to his..but his time had passed and so Dorian became great. Actually the word is unbelievable.
The great Lee Haney is the mahatma Gandhi of all the Mr.Olympias. Giant too. PERFECT MUSCLES. That slim waist was freaky masculine. When Lee Haney stepped into a place conversation stopped in awe. True greatness.
His cool smile was the charm.

Yea lee Haney is one of the greatest champions but Dorian was as good as him if not better on that night . Had he competed the next year Dorian would’ve smoked him off .

I'd say yes. He wanted to finish his pro carrier as an undefeated champ.
He already beat Dorian , why would he be scared? I think the use of insulin was on the rise and Haney didn't want to go down that path. Plus bodybuilding needed a new star to get that overseas ( European market). Yates was the best candidate for that.
I think because he was so succesfull at such a young age. Sometimes i think Lee was just smart enough to stop at his peak and stopped when he knew he would live a healty life after bodybuilding
Lol, I alway find this question ridiculous. As an 8x Mr. Olympia he was not "scared" of anyone. He beat Dorian, broke Arnold's record and moved on. Being the best in the world for 8 years in a row takes it't toll on you physically. Look at Mr. Yates, his body only lasted through 6 before tearing muscles....look at Ronnie's current physical state. I think Haney was one of the few who did it right, no fear. Just smart & absolutely dominant. The greatest of all time.

Lee Haney doesnt get the credit he deserves, apart from the 93 olympia Dorian was sloppy after that, the entire field was of low standard...nothing like it was during Haneys reign
As much as I like Dorian and his work ethic Lee Haney did outmuscle him in 91. Even dorian admitted it. But I disagree Dorian had great genetics. He had rock hard muscle and size but no separation or amazing tie ins.
Lee had to retire, he knew Dorian was gonna end up beating him in the following years

I hate that when somebody of the eighties ans nineteen critisize the top bodybilders now. Don't telle me if Ramy with the shape he had now couldn't beat lee HAney at his prime or Dorian Yates. Dorian Yates who was almost defeated by Nasser who hasn't that much muscle and the back like Big Ramy. Even Lee in his prime wasn't that good he lacked of legs front, side and zéro behind. Is that the training he is talking about. and what about the olympia 1990 when he was washed and small. Lee haney in his prime couldn't defeat the top actual olympia. Anyway ans as Dave said Lee was competing against Labrada 154 pound, Gaspari 187 pounds, Samir 180 pounds and so on or against Mike Christian who was training only arms and chest...Sorry Lee even if you have 8 olympia you weren't better than the bodybuilder of the new era. You could'n't beat Ian or Hunter or Nick walker. sorry and sorry. And when Dorian came he quit he kenw that he he is going to loose to Dorian if he stayed. If Dorian didn'y show up, beleive me Haney should keep up until he win 10 years.
