Ill never forget that chivers winner at molineux, i was an eleven year old wolves fan at the time sitting on the 3rd row of seats just about level to where he hit the ball, ive never seen anyone hit the ball so hard, it nearly sent Parks in the net with it, i can still hear the thud of the ball when he connected with it , even remember that canister horn being let off in the second game, they had it at the first as well, spoke to the guy who had it at train station, great game, great memories
My dad passed away on the 29/12/20, he was there that night and used to aways tell me about Martin Chivers who was his hero. Then we went to watch Tottenham v Blackburn in the carling cup final in 2002 and we flew from Stanstead to Cardiff and when we sat in our seat he was sat next to Martin Chivers. I mentioned this in my speech at his funeral.! RIP Dad and COYS!
I was a 9 year old Spurs fan. That Chivers goal meant so much. We were on holiday when the tie was clinched at White Hart Lane, watching it in techni-black and white in a chalet. Fantastic memories, just wonderful.
I must be around your age bro! Martin Chivers was something special! Pity he didn't earn more England caps than he did! As a neutral I feel the same about Derby's Kevin Hector and Leeds Utd's Allan Clarke. What a strike force they 3 could have made!
COYS. Spurs and Wolves in a European final! Different times! Loved the vid, thanks for uploading. Steve Perryman was at Tottenham for 17 years, incredible to think of in this day of disposable managers and players in the PL Whatever, great vid, sorry to any Wolves fans who felt they were short changed by the ref this weekend, but that's football!
Thanks for a great upload. As an 11 year-old Wolves fan I was at Molineux, too. To this day I remember Chivers' goal. In Wolves UEFA Cun run that season there was one better: Danny Hegan's at home to Juventus. Would give anything to see it again.
I went to the second leg with my Dad. I remember the tannoy playing Blue is the Colour beforehand to try and wind everyone up! Thanks for uploading this
I am surprised that no one has noticed the referee for the first game. None other than Tofik Bahramov. Strange to see him leading a game in the middle of the pitch instead of being a linesman.
I met Martin Chivers at an autograph-signing appearance at a local sports store in Stowmarket... possibly in 1972 or '73, I'm not sure... I was 9. From that moment on, I was a Spurs fan... until the rise of the money-men and Sky and the Premier League, that is.
One of the first matches I saw the entire 90 minutes of (as an 8 year old) back in '72. Great memories, Chivers second was a rocket as purpleduke77 says. Must have been a heartbreaker for Wolves.
Oh dear, the years have passed and I don't hate Spurs now. I can forgive you. Three times in ten years of semis and a final you did us - League Cup, Uefa Cup and FA Cup. Waggy and Chivers with two top goals in that final. UTW!
Waggy was the top player in the 2nd leg, scored a screamer and terrorised Kinnear. My nails were bitten to me elbows. But the damage was done by big Chiv in the 1st leg
I was 14 at the time and travelled up on a train, which broke down and we couldn't get in the ground as we arrived during the game so the Spurs fans smashed a door down and entered the ground in the seats. Was moved to the south bank by the police. Not a good view!!
I was there in 83 84 uefa final best tme as a young born and raised five minutes from spurs gd,two fa cups as well my favourite player was Mr Graham Roberts ,ps my school was next to spurs gd,and I was the milk boy to spurs gd ,used to go in Tony's cafe on high rd,and used to see all the Tottenham players in there, having a fry up,Iam Mr Tottenham yido to I die
being an Arsenal fan with a soft spot for Wolves (lived there for a year) his is a kick in the nuts lol tell you what players back then had more heart than today though regardless of team they played with pride not just for the money
Great game by two great teams at the time, But spending many a game in the North bank,Many a wolves fan I stood with felt Phil Parkes although he served us well felt him suspect with crosses and shots from long range. As the video shows, Shame He Could save anything point blank
Here from Dundee love the mighty whites, but Alan gilzean was easy man of the match in the semifinals against the cheats of Milan and probably it still bothered him tht Dundee should have won the European cup 5 years before Celtic after his hatrick against anderlect over there.beat cologne 8-1 at dens Google the rest if u wish n the final was at Wembley tht year..169 goals in 190 matches 12-22 for Scotland winning goal against England.the excact ratio as Denis law 30-58 caps...I can just imagine I won't be cheated a second time..chivers is the first to tell u he ended up playing non league ,,today they talk about assists ,,that's how he only managed 96 for Bill nic played him in a different position hence why he assisted almost half of chivers goals..humble man n like him from the same place ,Dundee n Tottenham are my teams blue n white..thanks mister gilzean ull never know the joy u gave us on both sides of the border......
You've got me intrigued. What know what is your source? From what I understand there was a major blunder (or nobody cared) and most of the ITV midweek productions from that period were junked.
Celtic European champions 1967...first british team to win anything in the big leagues . Not spurs, not man utd ,not arsenal and no foreign players...I think sevco 5088 won division 3 that year.
Yes,I was thinking the same, when he made that comment!!Many young players are earning that on a weekly basis!!.And I wouldn't mind if they played the game in the same way, with the same commitment&passion. I think back then, the players were fully aware of how fortunate they were 2b "Pro's".And knew that they had to take advantage of the opportunity that they were given!! Where as now,as soon as a player sign's on the "dotted line"and maybe warm's the bench for a couple of seasons, and doesn't do anything to memorable he still has the potential to purchase a house out right!!
I was there at WHL - and for the semi final 1st leg against AC Milan - whose 'keeper was nicknamed The Spider. He was the father of Carlo Cudicini. Stevie P to the rescue!@devildemon82
A late reply. The gap was there because a Spurs fan threw a dart at an opposing goalie. I may be wrong but I think it was Man Utd's. The authorities as a punishment closed half the Park Lane end off as a punishment.
La Coppa UEFA del Milan Gli è stata consegnata la targa UEFA per questa ultima vittoria..poi nel 1973 la Supercoppa europea contro l'Ajax A no..forse mi sbagliavo con una altra squadra italiana i
Not true. Chivers scored 13 goals for England in 24 appearances, with a strike rate better than Hurst, Hunt, Peters, Keegan and Channon, all his contemporaries as England strikers. In fact no England striker in his era (1970's) scored more goals for England at a better strike rate.

Wolves are back at pl
I was at that game behind the Wolves goal.
Tommy,
Thanks for the footage of this exciting Final!
A truly Great British final the likes of which, sadly, we are not likely see again anytime soon.
Alan mullery. lived in Sutton Cheam 1970.s
Love to hear the Spurs fans applauding Wagstaffe's screamer.

God bless your Dad and Martin Chivers. What wonderful memories for you to cherish. Thanks for sharing. 😊
Imagine modern day players playing in games like these .
I when to the two games when I was a kid and still love wolves
Old football is the best forever.
I was a 9 year old Spurs fan. That Chivers goal meant so much. We were on holiday when the tie was clinched at White Hart Lane, watching it in techni-black and white in a chalet. Fantastic memories, just wonderful.
was bill nicholson the manager of spurs for this game?
rich felton Yeah, he was manager from 1958 to 1974. This game was in '72. Greatest Spurs boss of them all.
Thanks for using this! Martin was my first Spurs idol, and therefore the most fondly remembered.
I must be around your age bro! Martin Chivers was something special! Pity he didn't earn more England caps than he did! As a neutral I feel the same about Derby's Kevin Hector and Leeds Utd's Allan Clarke. What a strike force they 3 could have made!
I was a 9 year old spurs fan in 1981. I will always remember ricky villa's goal.

My era. Loved this time
Now Spurs is going to UCL finals and Wolves are a rising power in the EPL.
Spurs winners cup 1963,uefa cup 1972, 1984 and now 2019 champion league final!!!
Wolves Even qualified for uefa europa leAgue which is uefa cup again haha

RIP Ralphie. I barely remember these matches but was at both. Thanks for posting
amazing, thanks for the upload
The DVD of the 1st leg, broadcast by BBC, has been released running at 70 minutes. Apparently there is ONLY 5 minutes surviving footage of the 2nd leg.
danny hegan what a player he could and should have been
Can't argue with you that. There again I'm biased,he was my uncle !

Just read that story of Bill Nicholson going into the Wolves dressing room at the end to tell them that he better team lost.

brilliant wagstaffe goal,
Famously Bill Nick went into the Wolves dressing room to tell them they were the better team...typical thing he'd do
wonder what he would say about marinio
Sours did us in this Final and in the league cup sf the following season and in the FA Cup sf in 1981. Still bitter? You bet ! 🧡🖤
Great game by two great teams at the time, But spending many a game in the North bank,Many a wolves fan I stood with felt Phil Parkes although he served us well felt him suspect with crosses and shots from long range. As the video shows, Shame He Could save anything point blank
I love EUFA
Real men playing football
BBC "Sportsnight". The Commentator is David Coleman
nobody crowds the ref. notice how few time the players go to ground when tackled. the pass back rule was a good idea though
29/12/18- Been waiting 46 years for 'revenge'!!!
The Wolves equaliser wouldn't be allowed now - the team that breaks up an attack by fouling must be given time to get ready!

Great hairstyle by Ralph Coates-was he secretly Bobby Charlton's other brother??
how original
spurs best team ever

When English clubs ruled Europe
Thanks to Scottish, Irish and Welsh players...

James Devine Spurs won the first European trophy for Britain in 1963.
Does anyone know which when this clip was taken from? Not the date of the games, the date of the air date for this footage, thanks
Where is Danny Hegan's shot from the half way line?
Any possibility for full game????
this can actually be a Europa League final in 2021
2:58 "the shot too powerful for Jennings" !!!!!! Was a mishit bobbler that went through defender's legs. Coleman hadn't got a clue
Is there not a 90 mins recording of the WHL game? I've got a dvd of the game at Wolves.
I see, lets play the first leg of a major European final in the middle of winter - at least it looks that way......
3rd of May and 17th May
Went Leicester away 70 s. Winter. Got chased up hill to station ..
I know it to be true, put it that way.!
Receipts of 45K for a Uefa cup final. Wouldnt even cover Harry Kane's wages for the first half these days.
Fantastic only one good commentator no halftime so called pundits talking rubbish, when football was worth watching, sadly no more.
45,000 pounds in gate takings and a surprising amount of grass on the pitch-different days indeed!

wolves werent very good at covering free kicks in either match. but two years later beat manchester city in the league cup final
Didn't the Doog score a perfectly good disallowed goal that would have tied the game? Pity it wasn't shown!
Brian Moore intro ITV the David Coleman BBC commentator interesting editihg
how did 2 british clubs get here for the final????
British clubs were the best in the 1970s
Gilzean looks like hes in his mid 40's
Love for Spurs, but Glasgow Celtic. and the Rangers. Love u English. Fitba is a game we play, in shorts.. usually.
Wolves were amazing too

not true, the 1st half of the 2nd leg exists
Sadly Chivers couldn’t produce the same form for England.
Not true. Chivers scored 13 goals for England in 24 appearances, with a strike rate better than Hurst, Hunt, Peters, Keegan and Channon, all his contemporaries as England strikers. In fact no England striker in his era (1970's) scored more goals for England at a better strike rate.

Record gate receipts for Spurs of £45,000 ……. not enough to pay one day’s salary for Kevin De Bruyne.
