There is a special place in my heart for the original John Cameron orchestrations featured here and beautifully played and conducted by you and your fabulous small orchestra. You did an expert job in reducing the orchestration to fit the number of players and the instrumentation available to you. I am incredibly impressed because for such a small orchestra it sounds just as full as the show did live onstage on Broadway in its original 16 year run! I'm not exaggerating. Your reduction proves that Cameron Mackintosh did NOT have to redo the orchestration in order to save on musicians. All he had to do was hire you! Hard to believe how beautiful and full John's orchs sound with this orchestra that is less than half the size of the original 22 member orchestration! Congrats on a job well done!
Thank you for the insight into being a pit musician. The instrument switching, and the communication is what I looked at mostly and it's amazing that i got this on christmas. Goood Work!!!!
You're correct! That string bit isn't in the original John Cameron orchestration and it appears here for some reason. Interestingly it's the ONLY bit of the newer orchestration that I like. Everything else of the newer stuff pales in comparison to this original masterpiece.
Ive heard and seen a lot of people talking about the original 80s and the current I guess 2020 orchestrations which is how I found this video lol What’s the difference between them and which ones are you performing?
the newer orchestrations introduced in 2010 for the 25th anniversary are a complete re-orchestration with hardly *ANY* of the original orchestration left intact. it also uses a smaller orchestra than the original did.
The newer orchestration's reason for existing is to save Cameron Mackintosh on musicians to make the show the most profitable possible. The result is a terrible job done in haste. I HATE the newer orchestrations. They are so bad, I can't listen to them. The originals are so much fuller, harmonic, intricate, and emotive. A real work of art that greed destroyed.
