You mentioned the size of the dust washers. The sticks base is designed to accomodate a below-panel dust washer mounting as well. May wanna try that so it’s less intrusive.
Mmm good info. Really just griping about it covering up more of the directional/movement art. The stock sticks washers are about half the size and use a smaller sized hole. Drilled them out, but stuck with the Happ washer because it looked appropriate with the joystick. Other than that it works fine, you'd think it might hit the buttons since I had to dremel/cut the mounting base to get it to fit, but it doesnt.
Yes the clicking noise adversely affects my gameplay............. FYI clicking noise is no indication of quality or performance whatsoever.......... You can buy top quality super clicky micro switches and you can buy top quality silent micro switches and also low quality of each as well!
Yes. but the video was ment to demonstrate the main differences between the authentic Happ controls used on the original arcade machines vs the stock-china crap that came with these cabinets.
So far modifying the joystick base with a dremel is all I had to do other than drilling new mount holes. I took off that far coner screw hole down to the middle, and about 1/4th of an inch of material was shaved off. There's a screw mount post for the other parts of the joystick and it's what I shaved up too. Not much modding other than that really. You'll have to go buy your own mounting screws though if you dont have anything lying around. These new joysticks did not come with any. I just stripped and folded the wires from the old joystick onto this one to see how it worked. So as far as a joystick-only upgrade, it doesnt require anything than wiring it up the same way as the old ones if you still want to use the rest of the original/stock hardware. The hardest part was just getting everything to line up perfectly, which those oblong screw mount holes help out a lot with.
The only confusion you'll have is the 3 prongs on the micro switch, but that's pretty easy to figure out from cross referencing other peoples videos and pictures. The non-gold plug is ground and the middle is positive, how they wire up doesnt matter just as long as it's going to the same plug-in/same wire set on the controler board.
Oh I completely gutted mine since making this video. It's a retropie arcade now with new usb controller boards. The stock board itself is labeled (up down left right) so it's not too difficult. To be specific the wiring is Red - character moves up Blue - down Yellow - left Black - right Do note that the microswitch that is pressed is the opposite of what moves on-screen so if you moved the joystick up it would hit the bottom microswitch, same as if you where to move left it would hit the right microswitch. You can kinda see how I have it wired up in my video. It isnt difficult wiring these. If you want to use the stock controller board you'll need to buy some solder or some wire connectors that will fit your new joysticks microswitches as the stock controls are just soldered on from factory. Any auto or hardware store should carry some that will work. You wont mess anything up if you wire it up wrong. Other than the obvious controls moving in the wrong direction. If your new joystick uses a 3 prong microswitch the 1 on top is ground and middle is positive. Does matter which way they're wired just that those 2 posts are wired.
Joysticks come with a manual or look up a joystick manual online. There are 2 wires for each switch and it doesn't matter on ( on arcade1ups) if the wires are reversed so you can't go wrong without serious effort!
Can you PLEASE!!! tell me exactly what you did with the wiring. I’m a newbeeee. Or can I cut each wire, connect it to the happ joystick terminals and see which direction the selector moves in the screen and then wire it in? I think there’s a 5th wire that might me a ground. I have no idea (didn’t expect the 1up connection to look like that). Please help!!!! Lol.
They're New Old Stock so if you want them get them, because theirs only 3 left from where I got them. The equivalent is Industrious Lorenzo competition joysticks. They're the ones that used to make joysticks for Happ, which is what this one is. www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-HAPP-ULTIMATE-Joystick-Assembly-Kit-BLACK-USA-Pre-SUZO-NEW-OLD-STOCK-CHERRY/142864529527?hash=item214363b877:g:F6UAAOSw1ilbR2Qo:sc:USPSFirstClass!75471!US!-1
Here is a IL Eurojoystick. It is exactly the same as the NoS Happ stick I have because they're the guys who made them for Happ lol www.amazon.com/Industrias-Lorenzo-S-A-Eurojoystick-Black-Joystick/dp/B01LYZYHIK

great job. was wondering how much modifying needed to be done. i knew the base was larger than those stock sticks.

These are rare parts so, you'll just have to get lucky when searching for them if these listings show up as sold-out.
