Dude! That squealing! lol. I have not had a bug where the buzzer still works. After hearing that... I kinda want it back! It's more original. After all the customizations I've done over the years, I prefer stock stuff on these old bugs. VERY helpful video, Mr. Genius!
The buzzer on my 70 Ghia is faint but it does work, sometimes. Cracked me up the first time I heard it. Took me back to when those were one of the first electronic "conveniences" added to cars. The American buzzers were the worst, but the Japanese had a pleasant bell.
These old VW’s will drive you crazy getting all of the little things sorted out. I gave up with a few minor things on Jawbreaker lol Nice work man, hopefully it won’t take you another year to get the high beams working 😂👍
All I have to do is pull over and change out relays... I’ll find it. It’s just not hitting the relay for whatever reason... brake lights tonight... those need new switches too.
Hay, nice video but you did not show turning the steering wheel and seeing if the cancel worked. Did it work or did you have to loosen one or two of the screws to release some tension. The little tab that sticks out is moved up CCW or down CW to cancel. You can test that without the steering wheel on. Many of the aftermarket mechanisms do not have to rolled spacers to keep folks from tightening the mounting screws so tight that it squeezes the back and front thus binding the mechanism. That little S spring is all that there is to move the lever back to center.. as you know. Jim
It didn’t work at first. I did have to loosen a couple screws. Also there was very gloppy line in it and I cleaned some of that out. It does have the spacers. I don’t remember if I mentioned it but it is the Wolfsburg West part which is supposed to be a copy of the original.
Have a 72 with a similar problem with the turn signals not cancelling. Replaced the switch assembly just like you did, but now the horn beeps whenever I turn left...wtf? Ended up reinstalling the original switch and just learned to live with having to manually cancel my turn signals. Thanks for the great vid!
Have been trying to fix mine...all the pieces that fell off and out of yours were the same random broken pieces I found...thanks for the great video ☺️
J-bug sent me the wrong turn signal switch for my 71 super they said it was for a 71 only gust what this one don't have any gray wires to cut I have a red with white strip and one more cant find where they go.
@@lloydsnyder592 Wolfsburg West were the only ones I found who had the exact match for mine. Some were close, but not exact. I’m barely an expert on my car so I can’t really speak for other experiences.
How do you keep the contacts on the switch from touching the steering column and frying the switch? I've gone through 3 switches so far. They never last more than a couple weeks.
On this switch everything seemed to be behind plastic. There is a contact on the top for the horn, but the rest was inside. This one wax from Wolfsburg West so maybe there is a difference in the build quality? Also, this is 71 only so other years may not be the same.
Some grease will help with wear, plastic dry's out..
Did you ever sort out the high and low beams? I can’t find the video if you did one.
Gosh, now I’m going to have to watch the video again. They work. I think I cleaned up a bunch of grounds? Dang, I have no memory of what I did!

Thank you Mr. Meehan. I need to get the auto off to work, the switch seems stiff. Also, still no brights!

That is such a pain in the butt job. Very good video and very informative!
It is, but not as bad as I feared. Now I need to get the horn and high beams working again... Fuze box problems...
Misunderstoodboygenius Oh wonderful, fuse box issues. Once you get everything sorted out, it is a really good feeling though.
What is the toggle switch that is to the right of the flashlight.
@@Ljblossom that’s the rear defrost window switch. This car has a replacement rear window without it. Good eye!
good Video Very helpful THANKS
I hope so. It’s just one year, but I imagine other years are similar.

Cool. You’re welcome. I decided replacement was best.
I have to do this on my 71 SB. The scary part is all those wires and figuring out where they go!
I had the part for a year before I tackled it!
hahaha. This is such a Volkswagen issue with your horn! HILARIOUS!
It was super funny! Doesn’t do it now :)

i realize I'm kinda off topic but does anybody know of a good site to watch new series online ?
@Maddox Douglas i watch on Flixzone. You can find it by googling :)

@@Misunderstoodboygenius I have an early 71. It uses a different switch.
