- We've played Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PS5! Across two playable demos, we experienced the iconic Mt. Nibel Mako Reactor mission where - yes! - you get to control the legendary Sephiroth, plus an expansive open area outside the city of Junon featuring chocobos, exploration and combat. We also took control of Red XIII for the first time.

Yeah, I know, even the voicelines sound like he's doing his zack impersonation. He's a lot more lively in the flashback, too. If I didn't know any better, I'd say it wasn't cloud fighting with sephiroth in the flashback

The funny thing i noticed is that almost every enemy seen fighting in this vid are flying type enemies.
Rob is the reason I started playing Final Fantasy games. Always love listening to him talk about his passion game.
Seeing the chocobos and open-world, I'm hoping they employ the resting mechanic from FF15 in this. Just hanging out, cooking, talking with the other characters absolutely won me over.

Beyond excited, Rob. I’m beyond excited. I’m 40 hours into FF16 right now and I have FF7 Remake lined up to play for the first time as soon as I’m done!
Did you get to finish FF16?
Not yet, unfortunately. I’m around 60hrs in at the moment and think I must only have another 3-4 hours to go. I would definitely have finished it over the weekend, but I had a serious flair-up of my Crohn’s disease and ended up in hospital.
Thankfully, I was well enough to discharge myself yesterday (they wanted me to see the surgical team, but no way am I having yet another major operation), but I still don’t feel well enough to play right now as I’m still in quite a bit of pain. I do hope to get back to it tomorrow maybe, but when I get this sick, I’m good for nothing but bed rest.
Thanks for asking though! I’ve enjoyed FF16 so much that it’s now comfortably overtaken Tears of the Kingdom as my favourite game of the year so far, and one of my best experiences on PS5 to date. I absolutely adore the game.

In the space of 7 days, I had a Crohn’s flair, got Covid and put my back out, so it delayed me finishing FF16, but I got back to the sofa last week and finished the game on Thursday. In total, I put 82 hours in and had a blast. FF16 is comfortably my Game of the Year, and up there with God of War Ragnarok as my favourite PS5 game to date.
I wish this demo will be available for all gamers post TGS
I bet we will get a demo a bit closer to release. I wish we didn't have to wait but I'm excited to get my hands on it regardless.
When you're suddenly transported back to your childhood and given a nice new coat of paint that it deserves! A game that shaped the entire future way of playing.
I am beyond excited for this!!! Clearing my schedule to make sure I have no other commitments during the release week!! I:D also saw that you can swim?!! I so want to devour all videos and articles on this, but I also want to stay a little in the dark so there are still some surprises come game time. The joy and excitement in this video is so infectious!! :D

As a fan of the 97 OG when I was 12, I simply cannot believe how much they've nailed this remake. The characterization alone is simply perfect.

I'm taking a week off of work when this releases. Red XIII on a chocobo had me giggling so hard, and seeing Cloud acting like Zack in the Sephiroth section was so interesting. I'm so excited!!! Everything about this has me hyped. I'm just as excited to see all of Rob's coverage of Rebirth as I am to play the game.

I think so. It is an amazing game.
It is on the PS+ Extra catalogue. The DLC is not on there (I don't think), but I would recommend it.
You could also buy the Twin Pack at the same price as just FF7Rb (which is crazy). The Twin Pack includes both games (FF7R & FF7Rb) on PS5.

I haven't quite figured something out yet, ... are we going to be able to swap a character in our party at any time? like I'm in a fight with Cloud, Aerith and Tifa... can I swap and get Barret for example? I confess I haven't quite figured it out yet... or have I missed something?
I'm pretty sure I heard that you can swap characters out on the fly if I remember correctly.

This and Spider-man 2, I think I’m done as a gamer when the final chapter comes in like 2027. Games lately have been circling the drain and I have so many in my back log
My real question about exploration is, if it's going to be location picking (like XVI) or actual free roaming world with fast travel (like HFW).
Mostly because if, it's actual free roaming, means we'll have at some point down the line THE SHIP.
This is such a good question. I think there are hints it is more the latter since co-director Naoki Hamaguchi said FF7Rb will take inspiration from HZD. However, that could still mean we aren't getting a full open world environment.
Hamaguchi confirmed all the continents are straight up one map and that it's all connected without needing to "change maps". So it's the complete opposite of 16's "open zones".

I think it will be more like XVI, reports suggest it’s not openworld, but very big open spaces, so i think location pockets sounds likely (and i feel like XVI was the test for this), it will still have the whole map, and the chocobo points will act the same as the obelisks in XVI, but i won’t be suprised if the location picking is kept in

Someone refresh my memory, i am aware these remakes are doing some timeline/reality bending but even though we are playing cloud with sephiroth isnt it supposed to actually be Zach? Or has that been retconned with the crisis core remake?

Wishing on an eyelash for a more realistic version of FF7 ... wow, Rob, that really takes me back too! I didn't realise it was a proper thing. I thought it was one of my mum's superstitions or sayings! Personally, I didn't play FF7 until just before FF8 came out (my FF7 Platinum copy came with a CD which had the opening FMV of FF8 and the dance between Squall and Rinoa).
My husband and I still don't have a PS5 and we have a two-year-old to keep us on our toes, so we probably won't have time to get a PS5 or play the second instalment. We will therefore enjoy it vicariously through the PlayStation Access RUclips channel! 🙂

I've not been so ambivalent about anything I my life, on the one hand I am hyped beyond belief, ff7 has been my fav game forever and I loved remake. On the other hand I'm terrified (spoilers) after the end of remake it feels like there's gonna be massive story changes and I'm not sure how I'm gonna feel
Its best to think of it as a continuation of ff7 story instead of a straight remake it's a clever play on words on their part with the time shenanigans going on rebirth I'm sure will be the same twist of words how I have no clue
I definitely feel that if it weren't for the changes we wouldn't be as on edge as we are now
I personally think it was a genius move for sure, because now OG players have no idea what to expect at all and its been hella fun theorizing everything
I lovded remake so very very much that I cannot wait for rebirth AND rekindled
I love it, but I hope the mini-games are a bit more forgiving this time around, That "pull-up" trophy took me days to get the trophy in, so I could get the platinum in remake

I platinumed FF16 and about 40% of the time I was just thinking, "man, I am so pumped for FF7 Rebirth." Add a gambit style system and the combat is perfect for a FF game. But even still, switching between characters is great as is.

Will there be a playable demo before release
Not sure everyone will agree with this but I really, really hope they don’t change the outcome of the Forgotten Capital. It would be too big of a change to the original. I think it’s fun for us to imagine that we could change it in this new timeline but ultimately Square Enix should be brave and see it through.
How disappointing would it be if Sephiroth just snapped his fingers a lot like in Smash Ultimate
I think Red XIII should ride the chocobo more like....a lady. What I mean he shoul drive sideways to the direction of travel with his head turned in the direction of travel. Or at least sit like a dog on it....
And btw. I like rock textures, if You know what I mean ;)

This game will be the moment the story changes from original FF7. Really excited how it goes!
i wish this has cancel animations like when your about to attack your enemy and you want to dodge/block quickly, the attack animation will cancel and dodge/block. i think this was a problem with the combat in the remake imo. dodging is not as effective and its frustrating especially when your being targeted by the enemy using their magic(fire, ice, lighting, etc.)

I haven't seen that Yuffie clip on any other channels, It's a bit spoilery but I'm really happy it looks like we'll be getting her while still in lower Junon. Seems like she thinks that a tiny boat is going to get her across the ocean never change Yuffie 😂

So glad there are new fans of the series, FF7 original was the 1st FF I played and will always have a special place in my heart, just completed FF16 and now gone back to do the Yufi DLC and loving it 😊
