a small tip: it's a lot easier to extract the pigment if you grind the stick with its end flush to the stone instead of on its corner 😊

Yeah, it really peeved me when she did that, but I understand why and the video is still great so 🤷

@@ashleighlittle7832 Grind the brick upright, with the bottom of the brick flush on the stone, in a fluid and consistent circular motion as if you're sketching circles.

I took shodo (Japanese calligraphy) for 5 years while living in Japan, and we used black ink sticks like this. But I had no idea there were colored versions!! Now I am dying to try them out for both painting AND calligraphy.
Not to mention, they are packaged so irresistibly it makes me want to eat them lol 😍

they are so many youtuber that are "testing" but actually don't even know how to correct use the stuff
It makes you cringe when you yourself are a user of the medium.
it's funny you're saying this but she's grinding the ink stick the wrong way. you're supposed to grind it flat and upright against the stone or else you'll damage the ink stick and the ink will come out grainy.
I don't think its a bad thing to see ppl try new things, you get to see a persons real struggle when it comes to learning. Sometimes seeing "professionals" can unknowingly cause others to not even want to try new art mediums. I do think ppl should label there experience with the medium in the title or video so ppl won't watch it thinking "omg they suck" or "what the heck is happening?".

The colors seems to be the same that ghibli use for his background. Like in the tale of princess kaguya for exemple. I thought about it when she started painting a strawberry.
