If the inkstone becomes visible behind the ink stick then the ink is nearly ready. This was the most useful piece of advice for me as a beginner. You showing on rice paper how the ink was when ready, also helped a lot. I appreciate your words, as they have helped me to relax before I paint.

This is just what I was looking for. Perfect !! and I love the mental aspect which is why I’m taking the whole process real slow - getting a feel for the tools and learning a little about the thinking behind the painting or writing philosophy as I go. Today I unboxed my tools and photographed everything as it was an unused beautiful set. Started with discovering a little about the brush types I have - then got stuck with how to grind the ink. From not having a clue to knowing exactly what do do in one simple and beautiful video . I can’t thank you enough. Found this video at midnight U.K. Tomorrow I’m going to grind ink with much appreciation 😊

@@JunkoAzukawa you must have felt the vibe yesterday💜💛 I completed my first little painting - a mostly, text painted, birthday card for my son. Black inked words and a water colour flower. I haven’t painted since I was a teen after leaving college.(now 56) I am very critical of what might not come through my hands onto paper, but every time I held the brush (as you taught and knew why it was better that way) and listened in to the music that I chose for the project that calmed me, I was able to focus on the in moment doing, not what it might become. End result I had a good enough for me 💕 Token for my son, which went into a glassed frame and was wrapped safely - I was panicking all week that I wasn’t going to have the courage to do it. But the mindfulness & feels of dropping the water on the ink stone, and the process of grinding the ink to the right, for me, consistency and the practice of the types of brush strokes that I have learnt from your video kept me entrained to my divine skill. 🙌🏼😇

This may seem unusual, but I like to write out letters and words in the grinding process almost as a way to pray to whatever higher power could grant me what I need to accomplish my creative goals. It is probably unnecessary and just a superstitious ritual, but I do think it at least helps me with getting focused on my goals and start relaxing properly.
