@@PCMonitors :) I also had a question regarding "black boost" setting : I read multiple reviews and nobody is talking about it in regard of calibration : should I leave it at default 5 ?
For accurate output, yes. Refer to the 'Test Settings' in the review to see how we set everything up - pcmonitors.info/reviews/acer-xb253q-gp/#Calibration. As noted there, settings not mentioned were left at default and individual units and preferences vary.
@@PCMonitors Thanks, on the same topic, assuming you have a lot of experience regarding those hardwares, do you know how much individual units' color accuracy and temperature actually vary from one to another? If yes what's the range ?
It really depends on the model. But for some you may find significant (over 600K) variation and it's not uncommon for green channel balance to differ. Gamma can also differ, but from the feedback I've seen with this model it's usually reasonably consistent actually. So I'd recommend the 'Test Settings' as a base, but if they clearly look wrong on your unit don't be afraid to make your own adjustments.
Very subjective really, for my own recommendations see the calibration section of the written review and in particular the 'Test Settings' - pcmonitors.info/reviews/acer-xb253q-gp/#Calibration.
Hey. I have a problem. I accidentally turn off power in settings in Acer Display Widget, monitor shut down and doesn't want to turn on. I tried everything. Won't help. Any ideas? I have monitor Acer Predator.
I have the GZ model (which is closer to the GX one), and no matter what setting I had for overdrive before, adaptive sync sets it to 'Normal', and it behaves as if it's on. Edit: oh, and the widget only lies about turning them on or off once adaptive sync is on. I can see the real state in the OSD and observe the inverse ghosting in game. The ghosting with adaptive sync on is driving me nuts. Do you have any experience with either the GX or the GZ 240 Hz versions of this monitor?
@@PCMonitors Their official stance on the support page seems to be that you can't turn it off with adaptive sync. As a workaround they even make the asinine suggestion that we plug in HDMI, as that won't support adaptive sync. It's frustrating that some people seem to have gotten it to work. I thought I had too, but if I actually check the refresh rate in those instances, the overlay shows a constant 240 Hz.
How can I adjust sharpness? Only supershapness on/off is there. Cant find adjustment option. Having problem with jaggies. even after turning off over oversharpness, text looks over sharp in a bad way. Also diagonal lines showing beads like effect. Not straight line. Is there any software to adjusting?
The monitor shows correct neutral sharpness, what you describe is normal given the pixel density. 'Super Sharpness' is the only option and outside of games or 3D applications I'm not aware of how you would adjust sharpness. You can use ClearType to tweak things to some extent for text, but you're basically looking for something that would blur the whole image slightly. You could try running the monitor at a custom resolution that's slightly different from native. For example 1910 x 1070. Easiest to do this via Nvidia Control Panel. This should soften things up a bit.
Hey, first of all thanks for the awesome review. I got this monitor today by myself and got a question. What are the best color/brightness settings for this monitor or what settings do you prefer? I tried to configure them by myself but actually have no experience in it and I'm pretty lost. Already thank you:)
i spoke to an acer representative, he told me that if i wanted to enable full RGB mode 0-255 in the OSD i need to use one of the game modes (lke G1 action mode) and set color space to standard. not sure if its true or not but so far its doing fine. also i noticed that on displayport the nvidia driver defaults to limited rgb signal which washes out colors, ive been tinkering with leaving it as-is and changing it to full; there is a difference but im not sure if i even need to do this on displayport. my goal is to run full RGB 0-255 true 8-bit SDR without any dithering/FRC because it murders my eyes.
Thank you for that video. I'm having problems with this monitor while watching movies with dark scenes, see some nasty pixels etc, could you advice how to make it any better, tried to find any solution but its really hard.
Compression artifacts are part of the content you're viewing, you might be used to seeing them on a screen that heavily masks them for whatever reason. The gamma tracking on this model is usually good and also appropriate, but that can vary between units. If they're far too obvious you can mask them by increasing gamma (try a setting of '2.4', for example).
Hi and thanks for the useful review and video. I have a question: what's the best setting for gameplay below 60 fps? I know that isn't the right monitor for play under 60 fps, but I use it with PC and PS4 (that running low 60 fps).
This is covered in the written review - pcmonitors.info/reviews/acer-xb253q-gp/#Responsiveness. Set Overdrive to 'Off' and you're good to go. It isn't really off - it's actually just the lowest acceleration level, very well-optimised for 60Hz.
It has a joystick, so you move that in an intuitive way to increase or decrease settings. If it's a horizontal bar, you move it to the right to increase and to the left to decrease.
Nice review man! But I have a question. How can i increase the Hz in the settings? coz' as i can see the monitor has been locked on 60 hz,and i cant set higher. Im on Xbox Series X. Any advice? :)

It may only have an effect if fed a limited range signal or possibly only via HDMI for that matter. The default setting, 'Normal' = Full Range RGB. "Low" should always by read as "Limited" regardless of manufacturer. Some people get confused because you want the black point to be "low" (= higher contrast), but that's not what the setting is actually referring to.
@@PCMonitors got it thanks. so just to be sure, keep hdmi black level on normal, match monitor colors bla bla bla, go into nvidia CP and force the ultra HD native 60hz to full RGB (since mine is defaulted to limited for some odd reason), then set res to 144hz using the same nvidia color settings that force full rgb and leave as-is. thats what ive done so far and it looks pretty good. i notice a difference in responsiveness, it feels less responsive but in a good way - as if the GPU is purely displaying all content now, pretty sure the reason my mouse input was so quick before i did all this was because i was on limited range. mouse input speed changes based on RGB full/limited and full might feel slower but its more consistent/raw. my two cents.
@@PCMonitors i do wonder, is there some sort of penalty for not setting the RGB range to "Full" from the default "limited" it gets set to? is it even necessary to correct this range since it's listed under HD resolution? this one always confused me and im never sure
Monitors like this with support for Limited Range (as well as Full Range) signals can provide a good experience with both the signal and monitor set to limited. On the surface it should look similar to Full. But it will reduce the shade range at the extreme ends, which can be noticed for some content and specific gradients just not casual observation.
HDMI 2.1 is only required for 120Hz '4K' on the PS5 and this is a Full HD monitor. However, the PS5 is also fussy about how 120Hz is 'listed' by a monitor (stored in its EDID). See the final paragraph of this section of written review - pcmonitors.info/reviews/acer-xb253q-gp/#Features_and_aesthetics. The EDID emulator seems to work great, but Sony also released an update in April 2021 which is supposed to broaden support for 120Hz on monitors. I don't know if the emulator is even required any more.
Hi, i just bought this monitor.. but on my settings menu there is no modes that i could choose from gaming, Picture etc. Is there a way to unlock this? thank you in advance.
You must have a setting active that blocks them off or the hotkeys are assigned differently to what is shown in the video. What is shown on your 'quick menu', when you press one of the buttons before entering the main menu? 0:36. And what about if you scroll down on the 'Color' section of the main menu? You should see 'Modes' there. 11:33. If you want them to appear on the 'quick menu' you can control this with 'Hot Key Assignment' - 22:23.
Is there a way to disable the orange led in the bottom right corner when the monitor is turned off? Afaik XB252Q had a setting to change that, as i don't have the orange indicator on it. Would be nice if you could tell me if there is a way to do it.
This model doesn't have a power status option in the OSD, so you can't change that behaviour. You'd have to turn the screen off to stop the LED blinking.

@@PCMonitors okay, i´ve went and read both articles about it, and you say that it needs a bit of calibration, how can i do soo, would it be very bad if i just put my iphone 11 pro next to it and calibrate it from there ? or what do you suggest ?
The colour accuracy is quite respectable without calibration. But each individual unit is different in that respect and things shift over time. If colour accuracy is particularly important to you, there's really no substitute for calibration and occasional re-calibration with a colorimeter or similar device. If that's not an option you could certainly do much worse than this model, the representation of most shades is quite faithful. You can make adjustments to colour channels based on familiar images and any obvious biases you and that will give you a nice base to work from.
Is it a model that definitely has them? Also make sure the volume is turned up in the 'Audio' section of the menu and the correct sound source is selected on the system/Windows.
As per the review: "The full capabilities of the monitor including 1920 x 1080 @144Hz, Adaptive-Sync for AMD FreeSync and HDR can be leveraged via DP 1.4 or HDMI 2.0. " 120Hz is also a listed refresh rate, yes.

It really is just like this model with a 165Hz refresh rate option, feel free to use that. The 'sRGB' setting is restrictive and given this isn't a wide gamut model anyway there's not much reason to use it. So just make your own adjustments instead.
Hi I have a question about my monitor on my Xbox series x when I start up a game my monitor goes dark for like 3 seconds while the game is starting up or when I go to the home menu it does the same thing it’ll go dark for a few seconds
A DisplayPort cable is included in some regions and from some retailers, by the way. But the included cables are all pretty basic so I often recommend people buy their own cable anyway, a nice solid braided cable or something with better shielding. The provided cables usually work fine to be fair, but at least if one isn't included you have to buy your own cable and it could easily be a nicer cable than what would've been supplied. 😉
I bought this monitor and it is very good, but, I am finding the white light very strong and this is leaving me with tired eyes in a short time... For example when I am using Google or seeing some page on the internet. Do you have any configuration tips that I can test? I already lowered the brightness to 20 but it still causes some discomfort.
This is a 144Hz monitor, per the review. The refresh rate is set by the system (graphics driver/Windows/game) and isn't something you set on the monitor. This is always the case. Therefore that is not relevant to show in a video about the menu system of a monitor.

@@PCMonitors im reallu thankfull for that :)) i´ll buy one later this day, thank you fr :9 u just made my day
Can u change the color temperature in hdr mode in this monitor?
No, as covered in the review and as usual for HDR that sort of control is blocked off.
@@PCMonitors hm okay because my last monitor was too yellow/warm in hdr..
On my monitor it shows a 60 on the top right of my screen how to i get that off my screen
Turn off 'Refresh Rate Num' in the 'Gaming' section.
@@PCMonitors thank you
Does it have AMD FreeSync capability?
It does, via DP (but not HDMI). See relevant section of review for more - pcmonitors.info/reviews/acer-xb253q-gp/#Responsiveness.
I just buy an acer monitor and I don't why but my audio is not coming out of the integrate speacker
Is it a model that definitely has them? Also make sure the volume is turned up in the 'Audio' section of the menu and the correct sound source is selected on the system/Windows.
Do you know if the monitor a a PBP (picture by picture) mode? i would want to connect two sources at the same time
No, which is why it's not shown. It's actually quite rare for Full HD models to offer that as it gives very little on-screen real-estate.
What am I supposed to pruss to go up down left and right?
That's what the joystick is for.
My monitor is the same as yours but can only reproduce 120Hz what do I do?
What GPU are you using and how have you connected the monitor up?
My wide mode is grayed out do you know why
If I remember correctly it's only available for certain non-native resolution and refresh rate combinations.
With this monitor can you get 120 fps through HDMI 2.0?
As per the review: "The full capabilities of the monitor including 1920 x 1080 @144Hz, Adaptive-Sync for AMD FreeSync and HDR can be leveraged via DP 1.4 or HDMI 2.0. " 120Hz is also a listed refresh rate, yes.
@@PCMonitors thanks
It doesn‘t work with xbox series s… :/
It should, if the Xbox is configured correctly - forum.pcmonitors.info/topic/monitors-for-ps5-and-xbox-series-x/page/2/#post-61974.
@@PCMonitors when i select 120hz screen goes black but sorry i have seen now that my monitor is XN253Q P and not that one....
I have XB253Q GPbmiiprzx (UM.KX3EE.P08) version (prod date Jun 2021) which is 165hz but I can't find more info about 165hz model everywhere it's 144hz listed is it worth using on 165hz? Is it possible to avoid black boost set to 5 on sRGB? Option is disabled.
It really is just like this model with a 165Hz refresh rate option, feel free to use that. The 'sRGB' setting is restrictive and given this isn't a wide gamut model anyway there's not much reason to use it. So just make your own adjustments instead.
When I turn mine on it’s just a black screen idk what to do.
Try power cycling. Leave monitor connected to system, disconnect power from monitor (wait 30 seconds+) and reconnect.
I was messing around with the osd and accidentally locked it, how do i unlock it?
I got it fixed!
Hold the joystick in for 3 seconds.
Hi I have a question about my monitor on my Xbox series x when I start up a game my monitor goes dark for like 3 seconds while the game is starting up or when I go to the home menu it does the same thing it’ll go dark for a few seconds
Usually means it's switching resolution or refresh rate.
@@PCMonitors is there a way to stop that
Not on the monitor side, not sure if there's something on the Xbox you can change.
Happens on anything
what do I do if a have an Nvidia graphics card? is adaptive sync and g-sync available if I use the HDMI 2.0 that comes with it?
This is explained in the review. You need to use DisplayPort to make use of 'G-SYNC Compatible Mode'.
@@PCMonitors yeah I thought that would be the case. I just wanted to make sure coz dp don't come with the monitor.
@@PCMonitors fair enough 😏
How do you get the computer thing??
If you mean Display Widget, there's a link in the video description.
How to custom aspect ratip
I bought this monitor and it is very good, but, I am finding the white light very strong and this is leaving me with tired eyes in a short time...
For example when I am using Google or seeing some page on the internet.
Do you have any configuration tips that I can test?
I already lowered the brightness to 20 but it still causes some discomfort.
A good start would be lowering brightness to '0' but also try the LBL settings.
My vrgb is locked help
what is the response time of this monitor it says 2 in some places 1 in some places
Don't chase useless and misleading figures. The response performance is excellent as explored in detail in the review.
@@PCMonitors thank you Hertz is the highest 144, right? my english is bad and i couldn't understand your video, sorry
I'd recommend translating the written review if your English is poor. But yes, it's 144Hz max.
@@PCMonitors Thank you
how do i change the hz i have 240 hz but i dont know how to put it to 240
You select it in Windows, the system, game or graphics driver.
I got this monitor I’m trying to run it on my series x but I can’t get it to get off 60 hz need it 120
Have you configured it in the way suggested here - forum.pcmonitors.info/topic/monitors-for-ps5-and-xbox-series-x/page/2/#post-61974 ?
How to reset to factory defaults?
You press the little 'i' (information) button when in the main menu, you'll find the reset option there.
How do you get sound
Make sure the volume is turned up in the OSD (14:43) and the monitor is selected as the sound source by the system.
Does it has g-sync?
It works with 'G-SYNC Compatible Mode', yes.
@@PCMonitors thanks!
show us how to get 280hz bro what is this
This is a 144Hz monitor, per the review. The refresh rate is set by the system (graphics driver/Windows/game) and isn't something you set on the monitor. This is always the case. Therefore that is not relevant to show in a video about the menu system of a monitor.
Bro I want settings
pcmonitors.info/reviews/acer-xb253q-gp/#Calibration
i need this monitor 😡 it for my ps5 pweez ship to canada 🥺
It's available in Canada, refer to our link in the description of the video.
first
So you are! Usually by this point I'd have annoying questions about how to unlock the OSD. But not even that.
how do i leave it 0.5 ms? I connected an hdmi cable only, should I put another one or what?
Ignore specified response times, they're misleading to put it politely. Instead focus on the actual performance, as covered in the review.
@@PCMonitors ok bro I'm going to see and review this video to better understand the games part, mine is the xb253q, and when I blocked the hud it didn't work in the same way as the one presented in the video, so I pressed and held it without moving the joystick anywhere and it was unlocked, thanks for the video, very well explained.
how can i change the 60 hz to 144hz because i connect the monitor with my pc
Select 144Hz in the graphics driver, Windows or game.
