Haha, I'm pretty sure your 10 years of music theory study not only gives you much more insight into how to take this further but also how to generate more complex, less random and more intentional chord progressions. So don't give up on that experience just yet 😉 As someone who doesn't have 10 years of music theory experience, rest assured knowing that I regularly wish I did 🤓
You're a hidden jem. I can tell you're a brilliant mind and a good hearted person from the way you present these things and share them with us. Cheers mate!
Your recent M4L videos have been some of the best tutorials I've seen. Especially when I didn't know that most of these devices actually existed. Thanks.
Thanks! That's the idea with these videos; to find some of the best devices out there and make people aware of what they can do. Good to know it's doing just that! 😃
Your videos are so precise and fluent. I have a question and a second later you answer it in the video. And then I have another question in mind and you answer it right away without me even asking. Such quality content. Thank you.
I really appreciate you bruh. You actually have videos that change my workflow. The follow command technique in ableton has inspired me beyond words. @@ELPHNT ah cool. I used to use Screenflow but switched to Camtasia years ago and found it faster to work with. What I love is the white space - really focuses your attention and gets rid of everything else. 🤓👍

@@ELPHNT You got back to me! Thank you so much. One more question (and I apologies if it is a “dumb” one)- Can Ableton assign both MIDI and “Key” control to your parameters, such as major/minor, inversions buttons, etc?
Probably not, I feel like I've said all I can about this little device, anything more would just be gratuitous! 🙃 But it might feature in some future videos, we'll see...
@@chuuuu1131 Well there are some explanations in youtube. I've watched one of them and from what I've heard is that the reason why the music is so popular its because of its sound design. Edit: Also its chords...

One more question, if I may- Can I assign Keyboard shortcuts to the “buttons” on your plug-in (Major/minor, inversions, ect)? Would I simply use Ableton’s keyboard shortcut assigning function? If not keyboard shortcuts- could I assign MIDI shortcuts? Thanks!
i have a issue with this plugin, everytime i release a previous key the next key press sounds get partially muted like its not ringing fully. the chord sustain isnt happening properly. plz help.
Hi There, very usefull vidéo and plugin, but here i have an issue : When i use it as you said in the video, and i play the song, there is some event added to my history action called "AllNotesOff" and it's very annoying because when i want to go back to an action i've to push the ctrl+Z keys like a thousand times before i get the action i want to go back to. Do you know why it does that or how to solve this? thanks in advance
Unfortunately, this is a bug with the device. The only way to fix it would be to contact the original developer or go in and modify the device yourself if you know how to use Max.
Rather than random, I just wana set each note to play a certain chord, e.g. D1 always playing Dminor and F playing Fmajor7. Would love if there was a simple Max device to do this, but I'll see if Cthulhu can do it.
You'll need Live Suite or Live Standard with the MaxForLive addon. If you have either of those then just head to the link in the description, download the .amxd file and then drag and drop it to wherever you want to use it in Live. Let me know if you get stuck 🤓
It's just something I threw together for the video, but you'll find similar sounds in my ANLG Live Pack: elphnt.io/live-packs/synths-vol-1-anlg. There's even a free demo with 10 free presets 😊
Unfortunately, it requires MaxForLive which is only available in Live Suite or as a separate add-on to Live Standard. So your only option here is to upgrade to one of those versions. Sorry.
Am I missing something? I really wanted this plug-in to be awesome. I saw nobody mention having problems using this plug-in, so I assumed it would be awesome for live performances…. So I bought the Max for Live upgrade just to use this plug-in. Then I found it is useless for live performance. The constructed chords ‘hang’ /stick in this strange way making it impossible to use in real-time, live performances. I hope it is just something I’m doing wrong.
If you don't know music theory, this isn't going to help you much. In fact, it will potentially mess up your music by generating the wrong chords - unless you really want just some random ones to play. Also, you really need to randomise the major/minor selection too to make it fit into the key.
Are any chords really wrong if they sound like you want them to? I'm sure there are countless pieces of music out there with 'wrong chords' that are successful because the creator (who may or may not know their music theory) simply enjoyed the way they sounded. In fact, many of the great musicians we admire ARE so great because they broke the supposed rules, whether consciously or not. In music, there is very little right or wrong, only what sounds good and what works for the creator or the listener.
Sure, “wrong” chords can be great, and while I am all for happy accidents and randomness, I am also sure you’ll agree that knowing the rules makes it easier to break them in interesting ways. At least it will make your rule-breaking more productive if you do rather than doing things at random until it sounds good. In any case, if you do both minor and major chords but lock to key, you will get more interesting chord progressions with more tension and release.
@@hakonsoreide Yup, definitely agree with you - it's obviously always better to have more knowledge, but these kinds of things are still very useful for those just getting started on their music-making journey. Regarding the major/minor -> because the Scale device quantises the notes to be in a particular key, whether or not you randomise the major/minor switch in Nordmann, you'll still end up with major and minor chords at the output, because if Nordmann generates a particular major chord that might be out of the key, the scale device might quantise it such that it becomes a minor chord in the key and vice versa (or whatever other chord types are available in that particular key), so you still end up with a diversity of chord types within the key of choice.
¿Question- So, unlike most other “auto chord” builders, you can make chords in various music scales with this? Most require you to select a scale first, but this one you’re not limited to particular scales, right?
Yes, sort of. It kinda doesn'treally work in 'scales' per see, just kinds of chords, which may or may not have notes in a particular scale, if that makes sense.
@@ELPHNT So, in other words, it will use any key you enter to make the chord, whether or not the note is in any particular scale, right? I hope that is the case, actually.
