You niggas so dense especially your girl man, the recruiter killed himself because he didnt want to admit that hes their dog some people are willing to die for their dignity. It wasnt about whos killing who it was about making a point
Can we take a minute to appreciate how great Gong Yoo's acting skills are since this show was, I believe, his first time playing this type of psychotic villainous role, and he does such an insanely good job that he deserves a supporting actor award or something?
Literally, I'm so glad they fleshed out his character more and the actor did an amazing job. Plus, I find it funny how they introduced and ended his character in the first episode of each season
I swear Korean actors are better at playing villainous roles than the cheesy romanticist or good character type.. Lee Seung Gi, Choi Woo Sik, Song Ha Yoon, Kim Seon Ho, So Yeon Kim and now Gong Yoo
I have a feeling that he has been slowly going insane. In the first season, he seemed more composed when we first meet him, but here he reached a point of being unhinged. That's why he didn't have a problem of shooting himself.
@@Serenity113 Nah hes definitely been unhinged from the start. Did you even listen to his backstory? Hes been working in the games since he was a CHILD.
5:54 Fun Fact: Remember Seon Gil-hun was tortured in the bathroom after losing the winning ticket of that horse bet in the first episode of the first season? That's the boss who tortured him with his goons. Wow, life go round and round. One day you were the executioner of the protagonist and now you work for him. Still I feel sorry for the outcome with him in this episode, he ended up sacrificing his life for one of his subordinates and despite being a sadist when it came to debt, he was much more empathetic than the man with the suitcase.
simple because gihun knew any goverment agent, upper police, politician, have connection to those rich people, cannot trust them, and also thats is south korean, US and england have sattelite that can see those game being played in an island, and south korean is US allies,
I have to say it's so in character for him. He had that "I'm better than you" mentality, and that strive to follow rules until the very end. Wish there was more of him, but he did amazing nonetheless with that kind of character
In hindsight the bread and lottery game made sense. The recruiter is coping with himself and what he's done (to innocents including his father). He knows he's a dog, but he justifies to himself how the people he recruits and kills are scum. Why? Because they caused their situations themselves. Theyre all gamblers. The main character was a gambler in season 1. They all gambled themselves to rock bottom, but even at rock bottom, they continue to gamble (choosing the lottery over bread). This is his way of justifying to himself that these people are worthless and continue to ruin their lives, that they cannot be helped and that his recruitment is not just evil, but a mercy even. That is why he flips as well when trampling the bread. He hopes to be proven wrong but is frustrated by what he perceives to be proof of how they are all scum. He hates himself deep inside and when he is confronted with it his soul is exposed. It is why he was reckless and in the end, willing to die. He justifies the killings like this and manipulates himself to not feel guilty. That is the "Mask" he wears
Man, I never imagined Gi-Hun could be so badass against the Recuiter here. He knew the Recruiter had to stick to his own rules to the end and he was letting him have it while throwing back the same words he said to Gi-Hun along with that lapdog talk. I’m gonna miss the Recruiter as a character though.
I mean he still proved the recruiters point by gambling instead of shooting him and i think the recruiter was already prepared to die, that is why he approached Gi Hun
Most people are saying how the recruiter is insane but they forgot Gi-hun is also crazy enough to participate in this Russian Roulette with no reset spinning. 😂
Recruiter shot himself because he'd rather die than admit he's just a nobody, him being granted his job gave him the sense of belonging, and being somebody, someone important. Sometimes, a person's survival isn't their top priority, but their principle.
At first I thought that biker’s girlfriend was only sweet-talking Jun-ho to get out of getting a ticket but turns out she meant what she said. I’m glad the guy literally left her for the streets.
You can literally see, that Gi-hun from beginning of S1 and S2 are two completely different people. I guess the whole point of bread and tickets scene in the park is the message, that in dire situations people in general would choose a chance to live a better life rather than die in poverty. Because bread will be eaten and you would be poor anyway. That's why almost everyone chose lottery tickets. Highlight is definitely Rock Paper Scissors and Russian Roulette. I guess he and detective will work together in order to stop the games.
I thought those beggars were lame for choosing the lottery ticket because of their gambling addiction. But I never thought of what you said. It's a great perspective. The recruiter was just exploiting their nature - to strive for a better future.
Regarding the red hair; There's a mythological Korean demon who has red hair/horns that plays tricks on people. Dokkaebi. He also is a demon of vengeance on some iterations. Basically Batman of Korean lore :P
Now thats how you play Rock Paper Scissors 😂 I actually really liked the Loan Shark Leader. He reeked of being sorta slimy and i expected him to not only take Gi Hun's money but also screw over his right hand man. But not only did he stay true to his word and make his men work for the money they were earning from Gi Hun,but he actually sacrificed his life for his partner. That was definitely a highlight of the season for me. Gong yoo.....give that man an Emmy for a Guest Appearance for this episode. What a performance
For those that dont remember. All those who participated were indeed chipped. When the cop infiltrated and took the guys place, they were told go in the car they were transporting and verify the players via a scan which was on the side of the neck. When the cop was scanned it stayed red and he got folded lol
FYI, don't be surprised about major cliffhanger on the last episode of Season 2. The continuation will be in Season 3, which will be aired next year. They are already on the post production for Season 3. Spoiler: There are less than 6 games in this Season, the rest will be in Season 3.
The bread and lottery scene can symbolize those who took the lottery will likely join the Squid Game (gambling their life) while those who took the bread wouldn't. So when Gong Yoo (the recruiter) was talking about his dad and ended up killing him, he was probably angry as well wondering why would his dad make such a stupid choice gambling his life for money. I mean 456 did the exact same thing in season 1.
I just take it the recruiter has a superiority complex since none of the homeless got taken into the game? Bro really wasted money on the lotto and food just to ruined it in front of their faces!
@@Renkencen exactly. He didn't give any of them any cards.. i think what he did at the park was just him having fun after work, to further show how demented he is and how much fun he has toying with the poor

23:25 my bro just hasn't been the same after being on the Train to Busan 😂 (borrowing this from another comment I read somewhere). Gong Yoo is a godly actor. The roulette scenes in this episode have been insane.
I was curious how theyd recreate the 'hype' of S2 since viewers come into this knowing what to expect to some degree (i.e. the deaths, out there scenarios, the games, sadistic behaviors by the game proctors, etc) but the way they fleshed out Gong Yoo's character as the recruiter and showed just how psychotic he is and how devoted he is to the game and the rules, succeeded in hooking the audience again and getting everyone's adrenaline pumping. The recruiter is coping with himself and what he's done (to innocents including his father).

He hates himself deep inside and when he is confronted with it his soul is exposed. It is why he was reckless and in the end, willing to die.
He justifies the killings like this and manipulates himself to not feel guilty. That is the "Mask" he wears
Also how the choice foreshadow the XO theme of the games was really telling
Hence the frustration as he was destroying the breads. They just kept proving him right
I agree and in the end Gi hun kept calling him a dog but he also justified his point also by choosing to gamble his life in a game than shooting him.
