i think i found a way to bypass this, you have to run the map with fast compile and it has worked for me. Tell me if it's work and if you have a problem with your mesh who turn black, i know how to fix that problem
Hi! Love your style of tutorials quick, concise and well explained. Although I'm getting a problem with my compiler where it goes through the process saying "OK: 11 compiled, 0 failed, 0 skipped, 0m:04s" after being "Done" and writing the files to [...]AppData\[...]\csgo_addons\mapname\maps\ but the compiler is stuck "building..." forever, never finishing. I made the same tiny map, also tested adding a boundary and other essential enteties but no progress on the issue. Still never acually finishing the compile and loading map. I used to be able to compile maps just like this but not anymore. Have anyone had this issue?
Great video! I have a problem, my map is 355 MB now, and when I try to do a final compile, it takes 10 minutes till a message appears in the script console '20 elements left in memory!!!' after the map builds forever and never finishing. How to solve this? I really want to upload my map.
The camera window has also a grid and is set to 3d fullbright, kinda annoying cause i cant see the things im placing clearly, how do i get rid of the grid to just see 3d?
hey brother, don't know if you'll see this, but i'm having trouble getting the map to load once i hit build. the first time (probably 4-5 months ago) i just hit build and i had the map working perfectly, but now once i hit build, the map compiles through and nothing loads. i followed ur tutorial step by step, i even tried loading one of the template files to see if maybe something i was doing was just wrong unfortunately nothing. i can't seem to get the map to open onto the cs2 application that opens with the workshop tools, nor can i find it attempting to search through both the in-game, and the workshop console. i might just not know the command tbh i was 100% just keyword searching and attempting to let the console autofill do the rest lmao. any info u can drop me would be a lifesaver. +1 👍
not entirely sure dude, it could just be as simple as little setting adjustment thing in the workshop tools idk. seeing as how its across 2 different gpus leaves me even more confused. reddit was empty of answers and the s2 discord server was stumped as well with their programs seeming to work for running maps and compiling. i'm also marginally new to the cs2 map editor with like around 1000ish hours in the original global offensive editor, and all of the tutorials i've followed have made complete sense until the final step of compiling. not entirely sure.
Forgot to mention that you need a ray-tracing graphics card in order to compile the map. There is a workaround by compiling with CPU, but it's not ideal.

I have downloaded separatist mod from mod banana and I need to somehow put it in add-on I think and change the names of skins I wont to replace so how do I put a download in addon
To run it outside without hammer do I need to do something special? The generated map ends up in csgo_addons that doesnt seem to be mapped by the game. I've tried moving the vpk file (as well as a .los file that gets created at the same time) into the csgo/maps folder but if I run it, it immediately closes. And all this with a simple map with a skybox 2 spawns and a platform. (running it from the F9 build sequence with play in engine works relatively well).
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. I did verify the files as well as reinstall cs as a whole and it still won't launch. Anyone know a fix ?

Love the short "on the point" tutorials! But please dont build and teach to build maps like brushes in source 1! Source2 maps are mesh based and should be treated like that. Unnecessary Faces are no good idea - especially now where the backfaces are solid and no pass through for light anymore!
Good point, but I’ll have to learn how to properly and effectively building using meshes. For this I used brushes but the main point is introducing people who want to make things to hammer, and them getting them making things in hammer
@@MapSpawn You can continue using Source 1 it's fine. But if you try you'll find S2 has enabled a better level of detail, lightning and most importantly quicker workflow. Is quite apparent if you look at the new maps for CS2. Have a nice day!
@@Nyllsor I have been a level designer for over 20 years in Valve's ecosystem. I started on Goldsrc, spent a tone of time on Source, and tried Source 2. Source 2 is absolutely not for me as an artist. I do not want my map to have a bunch of details and realistic lighting - it's just not what I want. I love Goldsrc and the artistic challenges that come with it.
@@CSJxlp Everything looks terrible on Source 2, you'll eventually reach the same conclusion. You are dazzled by things that do not matter. Inferno is already the least played map, why is that? Maybe because it was bastardized.
I forgot to mention, but a grid size of 16 or is a good size to build your map on. You can see the grid size number in the bottom right corner.

Yeah whatever makes your process faster is what you should use, hence why the traditional layout is more efficient for most.

Hmm, I’m not sure. The map file might be glitched, but I’d ask in the source engine discord if anyone knows how to solve this

There might be some issues with your map then. I’d really suggest joining the source engine discord and asking in there

@Andrewlol try compiling with no lighting to see if that works, uncheck the lighting box in the compile window

The means the player spawn entities are invalid maybe they are touching a brush

Thats a visibility issue, when you compile your map “vis” might be turned off

Try right clicking cs2 on steam and going to browse local files, other than that I’m not too sure whats going on there

First try verifying the integrity of your game files, if that doesn’t work try uninstalling and reinstalling

You would need to upload it to the workshop, but I dont know much about servers so you should join the source engine discord and ask in there

Weapon stats? If you mean how much damage they deal, their ammo and such, no you can’t change the weapon stats
