Love it! I was born in Perry and spent my summers on Dark Island. I remember in the 70s one summer the scallops came right up to the shore by the thousands. We enjoyed lots of scallops that year. Love these videos y'all are making close to my old stomping grounds. Thanks Kelly!

50 yrs ago we use to wade around in 3 ft of water there. We use a landing net to scoop up the scallops. Then was no limit on them. We'd fill wash tubes with them. Ice them an cover ice with large stingrays. Stay up alright cleaning them. We just waded.
So cool to see the kids out and about. Kids who fish hunt or trap. Are the honorable adults after we are long gone. Glad you are imparting your wisdom. Again nothing like hearing kids playing.

Poor Luke, Sorry to see he got injured. I think he really enjoyed pushing Kelly in though, his sneaky little grin. His Celebration Dance for pushing Jake in was epic! Gabe always comes in clutch when hunting, fishing, scalloping, and shrimping it seems. I was gifted some Gulf Scallops from Galveston area one year and they were the size and shape of those extra large marshmallows you roast over the campfire. Makes me want to go and hunt some myself. I'm the son of Boston North End Italians and on Fridays we often had seafood, scallops, lobster, calimari etc.
We also dug clams when we went to the salt water beaches.
My mom put the lobsters right in the big pot of homemade tomato sauce to cook. It gave the sauce a lobster taste. New England lobsters were pretty good sized then. We would lick the sauce off the shells before we cracked them to eat the meat.
Always had spaghetti with the lobsters and dishes of melted butter to dip the meat into. Molto Bene
By the time I was 12-13, I was small wave surfing and swimming across lakes and often off the beach (ocean) more than 100 yards my guess.
Won't do it now with so many big whites in the area. Swam in the S China see in 71 when in Chu Lai and DaNang. Water actually too warm sometimes. Some terrific waves to swim in at Chu Lai after a powerful typhoon went by. Used to love swimming in storm surf, quite a struggle to get back in against the back wash. Exhilerating though.

Kelly, my mom used to have me and my dad go out on these big sand dollar beds and collect as many as we could get. And she would take copper wire and twist them all together and make like a tree out of it and then she would attach the little we would call the angel wings once you break up the sand dollars on the end of each one of the wires end and then connect it to like a piece of coral or really nice looking Rock and sell them, they're really neat I had one for years till it got busted in a move. Just a thought a memory. God bless. God's got something good for you today.

Kelly, here's a great way to cook scallops. Saute them on medium heat for a few minutes in butter, salt, and a little garlic. Just before they are done, add a shot of your favorite whiskey and saute another minute. The heat boils off the alcohol. but the flavor stays behind.

I saw the "Bean Stalker" about 1:30 this afternoon. A big doe across the hay field that runs the length of my back yard. I had to pull up the green beans after the 2nd pick. Too much damage to the plants due to feeding deer. Still got 12 quarts of greenie beanies. I'll sew another 6 row next weekend. Hopefully, after 3 weeks of no green beans, the deer have move on to greener pastures.
If you break open the sand dollars they each have 5 dove birds in there...it's pretty cool to see. There is a big story behind it if you look it up. I love watching yall and love the content. Have a wonderful summer!
