What a wonderful competition! Kalinina was beautiful in every respect and deserving of her triumph. It was nice to see her with Gutsu. Boginskaya was Boginskaya, precise and graceful, albeit slightly disappointing on beam. I love Onodi, the underscored Hungarian Queen. Her twisting form and vaults were textbook! In fact, 89-92 was a great quad for vault; it was such a clean event and difficulty was on the rise, but not at the expense of variety. Okino performed well, considering her routine compositions did not suit her dainty frame. I loved her planche and dance elements and scoffed at the low difficulty of her bars routine. Li is a favourite of mine, so I am always rooting her. It was a pity that she faltered at the last second; no beam gold evinced to compensate, unfortunately. As for Gogean, what did Senior Elite do to her? She was such a dynamic firecracker in this contest, yet her future routines would manifest the aspects of gymnastics that I have grown to despise. I was impressed with the two-faced Zmerskal for redeeming herself after her disaster on bars. Generally, her vaults were better, though.

So this is my first time seeing Kalinina. She was fantastic! How in the world did she not make that 1992 Olympic team. Supposedly politics had something to do with it because too many other competitors were from her region? That's awful! To me, she would have contended on every single apparatus.

If she had been Romania or Soviet she'd have gotten the score she deserved ... the politics back then were ridiculous. Onodi was my favorite gymnast back then.

@maseratic boychik Or her coaches started watering down and playing safe. From everything I've heard, the national coaches in Romania have tended to be very ... dominating. It would be interesting to know how much say the gymnasts had in the routines they performed.

Betty has the flexibility but not the strength to do those leaps. Sad.
