The daughter seemed to have a little psychic ability ..in the scene when she's watching the guy chop wood, she whispers the word chop over and over as if she knows on some level somebody's about to get hacked
I think Catherine was somehow snatched out of her body , before George started wielding the axe. There was a sudden movement , and the sound of a life support machine “ flat-lining “. Then as George started to chop at his wife , the person on the bed , turned her head and you could clearly see the features of Ella. Not only that , but the reference of “ she was here for me , as I’m here for you “.
I think that was what they meant by “guardian angels” guiding people through their death. Easing their way out of the physical and into the spiritual/after life. In this case, Ella took the pain that Catherine might feel from the axe.
People didn't understand the movie was about the extent of George's wickedness and how it lead to him destroying himself. He chose his desires over the desires of his wife and he constantly lied and cheated to get what he wanted. The darkness in him was deep and it lead him straight to hell. All of his actions lead him straight to hell to eternal damnation. There were plenty of places in the movie where he could have freed himself and turned everything around but he didn't he just went deeper in to the pit. The movie was about Heaven and Hell Catherine went to Heaven because she could see and wasn't blind to the spiritual world. She was also good and lived an honest life. Her and George could not coexist together because she was good and he was evil. Even if they never moved to the house it would have ended the same way because George was willing to do anything to get what he wanted. He murdered his cousin before they moved to the house. The whole movie was about his road to damnation.
Catherine doesn't go to heaven. They explicitely say in the film and in this video that those spirits are not in heaven nor hell, but in this spirit world and in the end Catherine joins them. So basically they're there to help the living but so far it hasn't worked, not for the woman before her, not for Catherine. So they're stuck, trying and failing to save other souls, they didn't do anything in the movie! I agree, it was about HIS road to damnation, but he didn't only hurt himself. It was all very unfair.
Did anyone get a repressed homosexual vibe from George? His cousin was gay and he was obsessed with him. He sleeps with 'Willis,' which despite being unisex, is associated with men. He hurts women, maybe as revenge for his repression? The swinging chair scene was interesting, also suggest 'swinging both ways' or indecisiveness...plus, he hurts a woman here as well. His last name is Claire, giving him some kind of duality.
So he sleeps with only women but because one of those women had a male name he's gay, and because he had a gay cousin whome he spoke about a lot. That's basically what you're saying
@@loveshell007 Not saying he was turned on necessarily, but the character of Willis blurs the lines between masculine and feminine. This is just my interpretation though.
Catherine’s guardian angle was a complete waste of time . She was just useless in helping her . There is as no justice for any of the women in the movie . I’m surprised Amanda took this role to be honest.
I thought the same thing, when Catherine directly asked for help, ella (the guardian angel/spirit) just watched from afar “supporting” her? Where as when Catherine was throwing up Ella had the strength to slam the bathroom door shut?? Like sweetie where was that strength when you knew Catherine was about to be killed. I was so infuriated by the ending.
I think that was part of the point. I think the movie was trying to say that in our world women don't get justice. It's just like what that girl told George earlier on. Men always get away with it. I think holding up the ugly mirror to reality is necessary sometimes, but I do wish that George had at least been arrested instead of dying in a boat honestly.
The movie should have been called "George ain't sh*t." It was watchable up until he killed the wife - that was when I was like - whoa, he is too conniving to do it like that. Anyhoo, it made me look up Swedenborg and it was still confusing. I wish they had shown more about the previous couples that lived in the house so we could see why their spirits had such a strong impact on the current couple. religious thinking can be a bit too simplistic when it comes to defining our actions and the passions that rule us. Good vs evil is too simplistic...
I don’t understand why Cat/Ella’s body didn’t move at all when George was killing her, it was so weird I thought it might be another dream or something
I think it is his way of escape. Because thats when he found out that Justin is alive in the hospital (she called and left a note "do u remember me? I remember everything" something like that)
Was George's decision to head out to sea symbolic of anything? If so, what? I didn't understand why he was taking the boat out in the context of what was happening in the movie at that time. And even though I enjoyed the ending and the imagery, it seemed a little abrupt.
Yes, I agree with your synopsis. To elaborate a little more, I think George is a psychopathic serial murderer. It is assumed that George killed his cousin and then took credit for his artwork. Also, there was an evil spirit in the house supporting George.
But why did George decide to get in the boat and take it out at the end? He bribed the guy and everything. Did he want to kill himself? He spent all that time and effort doing anything to get what he wanted... I'm so confused about why he wanted to take the boat out to begin with!
When u need to have an ending explained in this particular case is a shame , Christine deserved justice , George end was infuriating, i get they tried to be all poetic , but he deserved to pay in every way , with his career , reputation and ultimately his life ,, women suffered more than the evil one ends . My opinion , i loved all but the ending , 7/10 when could of been a 10! ,
I agree. It was weird that he just all of a sudden wanted to go out on the boat. There wasn't really a reason for him to do so. It should have been a slow movement to that point. Where you see his career crumble, his daughter taken away, him go to jail, then may be he hangs himself in jail. Then he all of a sudden is on this boat that is heading towards the gates of hell.
You all totally missed the meaning of the ending. When he got in that boat it was because he found out Justine was alive. He was escaping in the boat to avoid his fate. He died in the storm he ran in to and was sent straight to hell to burn for all eternity for his wickedness. There was no redemption for him after he murdered innocent people. Once he went to hell he was forever damned.
@@tiffmonique7154 the end it was just bad. We got to see him murder two people and possibly murdered his cousin. Then we're left to wonder exactly what happened to him towards the end. Which was vague, supernaturalistic and fantastical. Unreal!

The blood is Catherine's. The movie is a flashback from the opening scene. George butchered her then left to go about his day to then return and "find" her for an alibi.
