Same. I actually remade it in FruityLoops back then (over 20 years ago). For some years now I was bugged by not knowing the name of this game, because I found the MP3 of the remake I did back then.
this really takes me down memory lane, i particularly remember meeting the dragon once, dying and then never being able to find it again, granted i was a child :)
This brings back so much, after a few years or reattempting and reattempting (I was poor so i can't afford a lot of other games back in the day), i've finally reached a really good stage, only to have my gameboy run out of battery...
"Here is one of the most frustrating Game Boy experience I ever had with an obscure 1990 Japanese game I found in one of those old school 32-games-in-1-cartridge. Back to the 90's and without any guide, I couldn't figure out what to do as a child." I could have written this, and it'd be 100% true. 😂 However I am VERY happy, that I finally found this game today! Back then (over 20 years ago) the music of this game was one of the first things I put into FruityLoops (FLStudio today). Not sure why I did it, but the MP3 is one of the oldest "self made" pieces of music I have. Some time ago I rediscovered it on my archive-harddrive and was since wondering, how the name of this game was. Tried to find it several times without luck, but today I saw a screenshot of it by accident, when going through a "all gameboy games ever" list. Thx for the video!
@DracXBelmont Ummm.... Actually... This is the remake of the original Dragon Slayer for the Japanese PC88 home computers released in 1984 (3 years before FF, to be exact). Squaresoft even published DSlayer's MSX port in 1985 prior to releasing FF. As for Dragon Quest, it was released a year before FF. While not the exact "mother" of all JRPGs, this game was influenced by the likes of D&D an Ultima. This one was a Pioneer RPG. It was the Sequel, "Xanadu" which would cause the "80's RPG Boom".
*1996 32 IN 1* is what I have. Bought it a couple years ago at a flea market. Contra 2, Super Mario Land and Dr Mario alone make it worth it, but it's a shame it does not use the custom Color Palette for SML.
It is amazing that it became popular also in Spain, of course included in all of those 32 in 1 carts. My friends and I got very frustrated trying to understand how to play and progress. Many years later I look on the Internet about it: so revealing :D
I had this game in such a multigame cartridge too and like in your description, I couldn't figure it out what to do. The game really needed so badly a save mechanic.
I completed this game in half a hour, very easy, you don't need to come back to your house location every time you get a power up, just take the ring and you can pull your house , so your house go with you .
oh god I remember this, my version couldn't save and I had no clue how to play I managed to get quite far I remember and then entered this room which was basically surrounded by monsters and I remember screaming out loud and from then on me and my friends named that the 'aaaaaah room'
This game is the definition of grinding, it has many interesting things that I liked, but in general is really tedious. The experience that enemies give after a while is insufficient, forcing you to farm more than necessary, and without the freeze spell it would be even more tedious. And the fact that you can't use things like the fly spell having crowns on top, just for search the rest make it even worse, not to mention that ghosts will try to rob you. I can imagine this game being almost impossible to pass in one sitting, especially for a kid.
I figured out how to play this game and I even beat the 3 headed dragon. My strat was to cover all the graves with the crosses before I did anything else. Then use the diamond looking things to increase my attack strength until there was no diamond left. Then I would go to one of the graves and move one of the crosses I had put to prevent the monsters from respawning so they could respawn right on the tip of my sword . I would kill all the monsters until one spawns that was more powerful than I was . After which I would carefully maneuver back the cross so the grave would be locked from respawning monsters again. Then I'd go on a treasure hunt. Find the 🗝️ and open all the treasures. Also I'd push my house close to where I encountered the dragon. That way I would always find where he was and not have to search the whole game for him once again. I was confused after beating the dragon because all that happened was the place blinking and that was it. I was the strongest person left in the game . All the monsters were running from me on sight as if I was minato namikaze. 😂 Memories. I feel like I'd play if over. I might search one of those rom sites and play it on a GB emulator. It definitely needs a modern make over
One of my chilhood's favorite Gameboy title. I bough it as an alternative to Zelda title. I still remember I spent countless hours try to finish this game. It was fun and frustrating at the same time.
I just got one of these 32-in-1 carts. Does yours say 1996 in the menu, by any chance? If so, please scan and share the label, plain as it may be. Mine was all scratched and brown with dirt.
@jasper7575 Does it really need an argument? It's obvious this isn't the mother of all RPG's. This was made in the 90's. Before that, there was Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, Ultima, Dungeons & Dragons, the list goes on. If anything, THOSE are the mothers of all RPG's.
and i hate this game. because this game is not kind for user. I don't found ANY game guide. why don't game company make basically tutorial. i really want to know this.!!
ok gameboy title not great zelda rip off the gameplay not too bad the graphics ok the sound terrible music crap overall i give this game 5 swords out of 10
tomas tucker the original Dragon Slayer (which the GB version was a port of) came out 2 years before the 1st Zelda game. It's the other way around. This game was the ancestor for action JRPG games.
This theme song is stuck in my head forever since 90's ;-)
some kind of version Dvorak's Slavonic Dances
ruclips.net/video/1VZD_GzPRv4/видео.html
same thing here!
I was not able to remember the name of the game so it took me a while xDDD
BTW the original theme game was half-speed than the video
@@marcmarti5273 same here. After hours of checking images finally I saw the name of the game.
Same.

Thus Dark Souls was born.
I was going to say "It's like Dark Souls." but you beat me to it by 3 years.
apparently many of us had that 32 in 1 multicart back in the 90s. wonder how it got so popular if it was a bootleg
...And to think this would be yet another problem solved about the game, if it had a save backup system...such a shame...

I think I had 80 games on one cartridge with this one on it. Took me long enough to find it.
I had the game. It was hard as hell and I never could kill any monster.
This would be awesome if it was remade... I can imagine in all 3D glory the guy pushing his house... That would be awesome...
i always dunno wut to do in this game as kid n die. now i will try to play again after 20 years
I had this game in such a multigame cartridge too and like in your description, I couldn't figure it out what to do. The game really needed so badly a save mechanic.
if you slow down the vid as 0.5, thats how i remembered my game boy running this game
Kaoru Pangilan thank you dear god, THIS is the theme song i have had in my head for 20 years, my version was also 0.5 speed
Sounds better!
This is definitely playing much faster than my game. 0.5 really sounds much closer to the speed mine is running.
Absolutely! 0.5 was how it sounded for me also
remember this cryptic game when i was a child and played the japanese version of it which makes it even more cryptic since i dont understand japanese
I remember this game,
i always died XD

Ah jeez, i'd go insane listening to that music for more than 2 minutes.
I got it too from one of those 32 in one (40 in 1 in my case), and i was never able to kill anything lol
i always went thru the side first and unleashed that ghost when i got the other sword lol
Good guideline !! solve my problem about "how to increase attack"

I was stuck for years, found this game recently, u save all my problems
One could use the AC adapter to finish this on the original GB, no?
One of my chilhood's favorite Gameboy title. I bough it as an alternative to Zelda title. I still remember I spent countless hours try to finish this game. It was fun and frustrating at the same time.
Man this was the original darksouls game when I used to play as a kid.
Hahaha. So this game is where I first heard this music. Came to this one after hearing it again from CIV 4.
So hard to play and no save... I wonder if you could even finish the game when using battery
I’m not sure about this but apparently this is part of the xanadu-series and thus prequel to the great xanadu next and tokyo xanadu
This game had sense after all...
このゲーム、セーブポイントが無くて、困ったし、疲れた 想い出😂
i waiting for you. now i can solve my wonder. thank you so much
I just got one of these 32-in-1 carts. Does yours say 1996 in the menu, by any chance? If so, please scan and share the label, plain as it may be. Mine was all scratched and brown with dirt.
Ah yes. The GB port of Dragon Slayer. Nicer pixels, clearer bgm, smoother transition, but unfortunately monochrome.
there's a sequel called "Dorasure Gaiden"
Tune the video speed to 0.5x will be original music😂
my version no have save :>
ah, one of my favourites! I finally found it.
one of the best game ever
Hah! Didn't know some company ported this to GB.
Dark Souls is born
The most frustrating Game Boy game ever. Never it had enough battery life for to finish its.
GOD GAME
i dunno how to play this game。。
i think i had 4-5 games on 1 disk, i think it came with bomberman too :S
the darksouls grandfather
What's wrong with the music?
He's playing it at twice the speed that it runs on a Gameboy.
I really hate this game in my childhood. Never understood what's the objective 😅

onde encontro esta rom??
www.google.es/search?q=dragon+slayer+gb+rom
Finished this on my gameboy, probably the most frustating game ever..
AngryRobot87 It's kinda impossible though, since there are no savestates and the Gameboy battery life isn't long enough
@HomTom mybe not phase 2..but i remember killing the dragon.
I see you also came back to the video years later, nice to see you again haha@@AngryRobot87
這個試過吃到最高攻擊打爆最終魔王(卡鍵將近一天 打完墓碑不再生怪 遊戲世界剩自己無敵
天啊...這個我跟兄弟姊妹玩...都沒人破關過啊 哭..
@jasper7575 Uh, no.
i remember playing this shit as akid the music was kinda awesome but the game was faking annoying and hard...
hears where zelda came from...they ripped this game off....smh
and i hate this game. because this game is not kind for user. I don't found ANY game guide. why don't game company make basically tutorial. i really want to know this.!!
