This style actually came out in early 90s in Memphis. By the 2000s it had already been around for a long time. Chopped and screwed sound is way different. And screw does not stick to one genre. You can listened to tons of chopped and screwed r&b.
btw for the scale i recommend using phrygian as it has the flat 2 which is very dark (here you just called it chromatic movement) Great video though, maybe you could make a tutorial on astral/chill phonk?

Phonk typically makes use of Phrygian scales (rip people who don't know music theory), which adds to the spicy effect given off!

Double left click on the snare, uncheck use loop points, right click the snare and select cut itself. That should work :)
