My etimo Tulip hooks I have had for 2 years have used 4.5 and 5mm hooks since the day I got them, I am 81 and spend my days crocheting all day, have had no words rubbed off at all. I love these hooks.
I have arthritis in my hands and tulip hooks have been on my “wish” list for a while! Furl hooks are rediculously priced if you can find another for less.
I have been crocheting since 1971. At that time, aluminum hooks were all there was.I have all sizes in aluminum . I have no issues w/using them. They work beautifully. The way I hold a hook, they never poke me while I'm crocheting. My hands don't get tired using them. I have soft handle hooks but,to be honest, I prefer my old aluminum ones. The soft handle can get in my way by shortening the metal part of the hook. W/an aluminum hook, there's no handle to act as a stop. The soft handle ones don't feel more comfortabe to me. But that's just me. A LOT of people prefer the soft handle. It's a highly personal issue. You just have to use both kinds & see what suits you. I have Susan Bates, Boye & Hero aluminum hooks. No preference....all work great for me. The knife hold is my style.Totally agree about plastic....don't like them! The yarn doesn't slip on plastic like it does on metal.
You are so right! 😊 We just have to find what works best for us. I still use both my soft handle hooks and my aluminum. I love them both! I can definitely relate to the soft handle getting in the way sometimes by making the metal part shorter though!
Also...😄...for me, the all aluminum ( or steel.. I also crochet w/ the tiny hooks & crochet thread)...is more comfortable because it's all 1 piece...when there is a soft handle added, there is a raised edge where the metal & handle meet. This is just me...I don't care for the feel of that ridge in my hand. I like the smooth, streamline ( if you will 😄) of the all-metal. Lots to consider, isn't there ?! 🤔
@patwagner9308 I can see that for sure! Yes, definitely lots to consider. 😁 I’m glad you have found what works best for you! Enjoying our craft and having the best tools for us is so important! 😊🧶
The Tulip's thumb rest actually makes my thumb sore, and go numb 🤕 I actually do better with the Clover Soft Touch. I love the shape of the Prym, vut its olastic so they squeak. I can't handle the thin metal hooks. They make me grip tighter, and I get pain.
Oh wow! Yes, crochet hooks can be so specific for each of us. I’m glad you’ve found one that works for you! 😊 I’ve never tried the Soft Touch, but I definitely want to!
I have a set of Clover Amour hooks and I love them. I waited until they were on sale close to 50% off. I have severe RA and I can keep crocheting now. I can crochet faster. I use the knife grip and they are so comfortable. Well worth the money for me.
I’m so glad they are working well for you!! I have only heard great things about the Clover Amour! That’s awesome!! I might invest in those as well one day. 😊🧶
I totally understand that and didn’t purchase them for a long time for myself for that reason. I still use my regular aluminum hooks all the time as well and they work great! 😊

Tulip crochet hooks really are great! I hope they are comfortable for you to use! 😊 I agree, Furls are extremely expensive. I’ve never owned one.
