Way back in the 80's I bought my folks a CD player for Xmas, I got my mum Rapture and when she opened it she not only had no idea who Anita Baker was but had no idea what a CD was (she thought it was something that you put on a wall😊) She certainly knew who she was once played and a couple of years later I took her and my partner to see her live. She loved it and Rapture is still being played by her.

Everything changed after that for Toni. Toni sang some of You Bring me Joy and I will tell you that yes there is no one like Anita but Toni’s voice does sound similar. But yeah, there is no one like Anita!!!

No matter where I live I rep my hometown & Anita is our treasure.❤ She was in Chapter 8 & the male lead was my substitute teacher. They had bad management, then she had her 1st solo & still a problem. A few years later she came out with this album & from then on she's been successful.

Back in 1992, Babyface wrote “Love Shoulda Brought You Home” for the Boomerang soundtrack. He sent it to Anita who was pregnant at the time and had to turn it down saying “Let the girl on the demo do it. She sounds good.” That girl was Toni Braxton. It’s a shame Toni never got to give Anita a proper tribute at big awards shows (her lupus was flaring up at the time). But there are some clips on RUclips where Toni does “You Bring Me Joy,” thanking Anita for giving her her first single.

I can't believe this. I was listening to her album, "Rapture", this morning. The way you are exploring this music is impressive. There is so much more of her music that you need to listen to. Although she was one of the biggest artists of the 80's, along with Sade, they both stepped away from music to raise their children.

For me the females were the music industry, not to say that the men were not bringing doing their thing. It’s just that the women dominated, and these three above all others to me.

He even had a small poster on the fireplace lol. Other great songs from her are Caught Up in the Rapture (the whole Rapture album is fire), Same Ol' Love, Giving You the Best That I Got, etc.
