Because the game was quietly adjusting its difficulty settings depending on your ability as a player it would be possible to go over to a friend's house who was playing much better or much worse than you and actually have the game behave differently.

Expanding on the Gnasty made out of gems idea, and combining it with Ripto and Gnasty meeting in the epilogue of 3.... my thought was always that the Gnasty we face in the first game is a doppelganger created by the actual Gnasty Gnorc to give him time to escape, which also explains the recrystalization of the elders in 1's epilogue.
Building off this theory, it could also explain why Gnasty claims to have defeated Spyro in A Hero's Tail and in CTR Nitro-Fueled. It would also explain why in A Hero's Tail, he claims that he doesn't remember Spyro defeating him, because Spyro never beat him personally, just his copy. All was fine, but Gnasty did not take well to the dragons insult to injury and used a great portion of his magic to free his subjects and freeze the dragons in a twisted sense of irony. This drain of his power is why he runs from Spyro rather than simply freeze him. Gnasty defeated, gems returned to the Treasury, and the dragons now have complete dominion over the four realms.
The funny thing about dragon eggs is that, originally, according to the manual, the idea was that dragons are an all male race and the eggs are created magically in the homeland of the fairies, who bring the eggs to the dragonlands during the "Year of the Dragon" (once every 15 years), according to the Spyro 3 manual. But aside from that being retconned in the Spyro games where Cynder was a thing, it also doesn't make sense in Spyro 3, because a) you find female hatchlings in that very game, and b) the whole reason Spyro is sent to retrieve the eggs is because Zoe and her fellow fairies can't lift the eggs.
"A Hero's Tail" and "Shadow Legacy" also had female dragons. Hero's Tail also had a dragon elder that was probably gay, the one that teaches Spyro "pole spinning".

Adult Spyro reminds me of that tidbit of development information for Skylanders Spyro’s Adventures, where it was originally called Spyro’s Kingdom, and Spyro was to be an NPC all grown up that would give you missions.
I dont know if anyone else has mentioned it, but the "Spyro problem" was actually going to be the plot of Enter the Dragonfly, but due to the extremely heavy crunch put on the developers by Universal, Gnasty was cut from the game and only Ripto was present, i guess since he's a more iconic character than Gnasty. I dont remember where i originally heard about it, but searching around you can find proof of this on IMDB and old product listings for the game stating that "Gnasty and Ripto have teamed up". Im sort of surprised not to see a single comment on this, but i guess i cant blame people for not knowing that little tid bit of information since EtD is fucking awful lmfao.
The dragon eggs are noted in the third game's manual as coming on the Year of the Dragon. Fairies drop them off. It's basically the stork story parents would tell their kids about their birth, or the alternative to it, but made canon.
This is incredibly well done, Spyro was a huge part of my childhood on the PS1 and GBA. I still remember how much I played the day the reignited trilogy came out. Great job! Also, 5:43 😂

Spyro on war: A lot of people are forgetting that he's 11. He's literally a little kid trying to go home. Spyro's canonical ages are: Spyro the Dragon: 10 Spyro: Gateway to Glimmer: 11 Spyro: Year of the Dragon: 12 Also, it would be pretty funny if 17:43 this was Red from A Hero's Tail but he never realised this was Gnorc grown up :)
It's important to note that the green color was always meant to be temporary, but the longer they used it, the more they liked it and wanted to keep it. It was the right call to change to purple, though. Spyro's look is iconic. EDIT: I also never got the impression Pete was ever intended to be his name, either. It was also a reference to Pete the Dragon, much like his color, and while I'm sure they liked it, they knew they couldn't keep it. I doubt it was ever considered seriously at any point until they grew attached.

I doubt it. This is likely a case of integer overflow, similar to "parallel universes" in Super Mario 64. The more obvious way to display a world without mobs is to just not load them.
Love to see someone do an iceberg video on the Legend of Spyro trilogy. There's a bunch of unused stuff as revealed by the concept artist Jarred Pullen, for instance there was originally gonna be a mechanic where we would find pieces of Ignitus' old war armor and for every piece we find, he would open up more to Spyro, giving us more about his backstory.

The personalized copies of Spyro 3 must be the ones that the game itself recognize as "not legal copies" through an effective anti-pirate system. I have experienced this one myself and it prevented me from actually beating this game for years. While there should be another way around this system by now, I was left with no choice but getting an original disc of this game. Players that just discovered Spyro with the Reignited Trilogy might never know what this felt like

video was pretty fucking spot on! just two corrections 1. the jun15 build is not the earliest *playable* build but the earliest FULL build of the game. the earliest build is the tabloid demo, known for it's unfinished charge mechanics 2. the "proxy" you showed in spyro 1 is not a proxy, rather a momentum conservation damage boost. "proxy" just refers to spyro colliding with either tight geometry or an enemy and being ejected out and for the record, banning mandatee from the r/spyro discord was the best day of my life
Fun fact about Distorted Reality from a weeb: Yuki Kajiura, known for her various compositions for anime as well as composing the songs for Kalafina (which in turn are also used in various anime series), has also used Distorted Reality samples in her songs. If you've listened to Kalafina, FictionJunction and other songs by Kajiura or watched anime like Garden of Sinners/Kara no Kyoukai, Fate, .hack etc you've def heard them. Open Your Heart, used in .hack//Sign, is probably the best example, as you'll clearly hear samples in it which Copeland used in Idol Springs. Fairytale by Kalafina is also another good example as in the beginning you'll hear a sample which was also used in the cutscene in the original version of Spyro 3 where Bianca brings a dragon egg to the Sorceress (although that one is compressed bc hardware limitations, but it's clearly the same sample).
To add to the Year of the Dragon part of the iceberg, the platinum trophy you earn for collecting all the trophies in the Reignited Trilogy version of Spyro: Year of the Dragon is called Party Like It's 2024; and, 2024 is the next Year of the Dragon.

I actually like Enter The Dragonfly, too. It's a game with ALOT of potential that Universal screwed up badly. Story's unsavageable, but the gameplay itself is indicative that ETDF could've been Spyro 4, at one point in time. I have a headcanon that once upon a time, a lonely and bored dragon used a spell to turn some gems into a new friend - a gnorc friend! Sadly, he was bullied a lot because he was "ugly" and not like other beings in the dragon realms, so over time he and his dragon friend grew apart and this gnorc went down a bad path, thus becoming gnasty gnorc. :(

Small tidbits about Crash and Spyro having demos of each other - only the North American manuals mention the code(s) to access them, meanwhile while they are in Europe region as well, though if I recall they aren't present in Japan at all. One possible reason for some of that could be that Spyro 3 didn't ever come out over there. (Yer people shut it, Reignited doesn't count.)

And I know that enter the dragonfly seems to be hated, but no, it's not the reason I didn't play other Spyro games, I actually LOVED enter the dragonfly. The reason I didn't play any more is because I wasn't the one that decides what games I get, my mom was, and with how rarely I got any, I had to choose wisely. And now that I'm much older, have my own money and Spyro even got a remake, I simply believe Spyros gameplay is far too easy to be entertaining to me since I am not a child anymore. I gave the remasters a try, but it's essentially just a mindless collectathon with absolutely no difficulty honestly.
In 20+ years I got 3/4 through this.... Not too bad I guess. I could do zombie/dead mode, moneybags skip, crash demo, double jump, and knew about Stewart Copeland he has another solo album that just sounds like songs that didn't make it on Spyro it's awesome. Its the Ultrazone Laser Tag chain. Ive been to two and theyve both played Spyro songs. One played Fireworks Factory (recognized for being my favourite) and one from Spyro 2. At the time I didnt remember which level, only that it was from 2.

yeah Crash 2 and Warped did a similar thing where it would create new checkpoints or make certain obstacles easier if you were having a hard time

It's important to note that the green color was always meant to be temporary, but the longer they used it, the more they liked it and wanted to keep it.
It was the right call to change to purple, though. Spyro's look is iconic.
EDIT: I also never got the impression Pete was ever intended to be his name, either. It was also a reference to Pete the Dragon, much like his color, and while I'm sure they liked it, they knew they couldn't keep it. I doubt it was ever considered seriously at any point until they grew attached.

I doubt it. This is likely a case of integer overflow, similar to "parallel universes" in Super Mario 64. The more obvious way to display a world without mobs is to just not load them.

Love to see someone do an iceberg video on the Legend of Spyro trilogy. There's a bunch of unused stuff as revealed by the concept artist Jarred Pullen, for instance there was originally gonna be a mechanic where we would find pieces of Ignitus' old war armor and for every piece we find, he would open up more to Spyro, giving us more about his backstory.

The personalized copies of Spyro 3 must be the ones that the game itself recognize as "not legal copies" through an effective anti-pirate system. I have experienced this one myself and it prevented me from actually beating this game for years. While there should be another way around this system by now, I was left with no choice but getting an original disc of this game.
Players that just discovered Spyro with the Reignited Trilogy might never know what this felt like

1. the jun15 build is not the earliest *playable* build but the earliest FULL build of the game. the earliest build is the tabloid demo, known for it's unfinished charge mechanics
2. the "proxy" you showed in spyro 1 is not a proxy, rather a momentum conservation damage boost. "proxy" just refers to spyro colliding with either tight geometry or an enemy and being ejected out

Fun fact about Distorted Reality from a weeb: Yuki Kajiura, known for her various compositions for anime as well as composing the songs for Kalafina (which in turn are also used in various anime series), has also used Distorted Reality samples in her songs. If you've listened to Kalafina, FictionJunction and other songs by Kajiura or watched anime like Garden of Sinners/Kara no Kyoukai, Fate, .hack etc you've def heard them. Open Your Heart, used in .hack//Sign, is probably the best example, as you'll clearly hear samples in it which Copeland used in Idol Springs. Fairytale by Kalafina is also another good example as in the beginning you'll hear a sample which was also used in the cutscene in the original version of Spyro 3 where Bianca brings a dragon egg to the Sorceress (although that one is compressed bc hardware limitations, but it's clearly the same sample).
To add to the Year of the Dragon part of the iceberg, the platinum trophy you earn for collecting all the trophies in the Reignited Trilogy version of Spyro: Year of the Dragon is called Party Like It's 2024; and, 2024 is the next Year of the Dragon.

I actually like Enter The Dragonfly, too. It's a game with ALOT of potential that Universal screwed up badly. Story's unsavageable, but the gameplay itself is indicative that ETDF could've been Spyro 4, at one point in time. I remember playing it alot as a kid alongside the original(GOATED AS FUCK) Spyro the Dragon. Lol.

The fireworks factory music at lazer tag isn't so weird. Once while buying fireworks, I saw a multishot cake that had Nathan Frost from Project Snowblind on it. Anyone remember that game? If not it was a bastardized Deus Ex sequel turned into its own game.
Small tidbits about Crash and Spyro having demos of each other - only the North American manuals mention the code(s) to access them, meanwhile while they are in Europe region as well, though if I recall they aren't present in Japan at all. One possible reason for some of that could be that Spyro 3 didn't ever come out over there. (Yer people shut it, Reignited doesn't count.)

Anyways, good video. I didn't really know any of this as I only ever played enter the dragonfly as a kid, so I don't even know why I'm here, classic 3 am video rabbithole stuff.
And I know that enter the dragonfly seems to be hated, but no, it's not the reason I didn't play other Spyro games, I actually LOVED enter the dragonfly.
The reason I didn't play any more is because I wasn't the one that decides what games I get, my mom was, and with how rarely I got any, I had to choose wisely.
And now that I'm much older, have my own money and Spyro even got a remake, I simply believe Spyros gameplay is far too easy to be entertaining to me since I am not a child anymore.
I gave the remasters a try, but it's essentially just a mindless collectathon with absolutely no difficulty honestly.
In 20+ years I got 3/4 through this.... Not too bad I guess. I could do zombie/dead mode, moneybags skip, crash demo, double jump, and knew about Stewart Copeland he has another solo album that just sounds like songs that didn't make it on Spyro it's awesome. Best song: "birds of prey" by Stewart Copeland you won't regret searching it!

I mean, we're fin in mist games that creatures were summoned magically, does that mean they're what they were summoned with? Like a staff or a mysterious liquid? No, or at least that's what I think people think. It's that gems are magical and is what summoned them in the first place. And consequently, that's what they drop when the spelll that summoned them gets defeated.
Its the Ultrazone Laser Tag chain. Ive been to two and theyve both played Spyro songs. One played Fireworks Factory (recognized for being my favourite) and one from Spyro 2. At the time I didnt remember which level, only that it was from 2.
