Helena Rubinstein was a natural for business. I heard how one of the men in her company was given a bonus and Madame Rubinstein said that he if he let her, she could invest the money and have even more for him---he did and she did! I read about Helen Rubinstein in Stephen Birmingham's fascinating book "The Rest of Us" about eastern European and Russian Jews in America. The photo here at 5:24 showing Helene Rubinstein in the same pose as the portrait behind her is in the book. The author, as I recall, said that Madam Rubinstein didn't like that picture but as she got older and came to look more like the image of herself in it she also came to like the picture.

Wow Helena aged naturally. That's nice to see. That doesn't happen these days.

Considering the positive response from the public for the musical, "War Paint," and coming upon this photo-biography, it's clear that Patti LuPone - if for nothing else - was a shoe-in to play Madame Rubenstein. The resemblance is absolutely uncanny.

Cool Fact: She wanted to rent a penthouse apartment in New York City, but they refused her because she was Jewish, so she brought the entire apartment complex.
