Someone told me its always warm and sunny in Newzealand 🤔 Thanks for showing the truth. 3 Hats! Stop feeding the wildlife 🤣 Another great adventure Barry 💖💖💖👍👍👍👊
Barry, I have been a subscriber for quite a long time, although, generally, I don't comment. But, of the several channels I subscribe to, your channel is my favorite. I truly look forward to seeing an icon of a new 'old seadog' episode and really want to say thanks for your efforts, sir. Truly appreciated.
In my opinion, Barry has a drinking problem. With all the problems he seems to run into lately I’m not sure he’s doing enough of it! Let’s see more easy times, fun having, all smiles Barry! Haha. Thanks for the vids!
Hi Barry. A very enjoyable clip. White Shadow is looking good. Your new windlass is clearly working well and your new sails look good. Nothing like crispy new sails. Best regards. AL Vancouver, Canada.
Hen and Chicken Islands chickened out with collywobbles. Better safe than sorry with White Shadow looking new again, as though she has a minted owner, she's looking so spiffy these days. Good work Barry!
Nice one as usual Barry. I must say that Shaddy might not be the fastest, but she certainly doesn't get flustered when things get a bit lumpy. All the best and thanks for an interesting video.
Hi Barry. Good news that the Volcano did not effect you in any way. Sorry to hear about your some of your friends not being so lucky. Hope they are all well. At least you are sailing again. Stay safe Barry.
Hey Mate, you can make a inexpensive hat keeper with a short length of twine and two safety pins. Clip one end to your hat and the other end to your shirt or jacket. In the meantime I will have a beer in remembrance of all the hat's you've lost.Cheers
Baz, invest in a couple of hat lanyards. A bit of builders line and a nappy pin. All my caps have these fitted and I made a couple to give to guests. Stop losing your caps overboard! “'To lose one cap, Baz, may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose 3 looks like carelessness”
Hey, Barry! Nice video again, and thanks for sharing! For to protect your hands from shell cuts while hull cleaning, I highly recommend to invest in butcher gloves! Fair winds and happy sailing!
I’ve been a long time subscriber and love your vlogs. I just wanted to say what a great job you did on Shaddy. She really looks wonderful, all your hard work and effort really shows! Keep the vlogs coming. Wishing you following seas and safe passages. God Bless!
Ciao lucky Barry, what a life you're living, from my heart good for you. Abt sheltered relaxing bay, from my pc, i could see Parua Bay. It looks the best spot just around yr corner. And maybe you can also get a fresh beer and fish&chips?! Fair Winds and cheers to life 🍻🍻
Here's a idea. When in Australia grab a coupler of s/h bread makers... for trade at the islands. They could learn to make Pizza for the yachties passing through.
Ah, excellent video as usual. You really need to get down to the Sth Island for the most beautiful scenery tho. Hope you visit before departing our shores
Barry, I found the simple solution. Two safety pins, on length of nylon, pin one end to the cap and the other to your shirt or coat. I never lost a cap. Stay safe. Great videos.
The Weather Is Very Tricky In 2022, Nice To See You Old Seadog Sir! I was wondering where the three hat Wind came from, now I know, so sorry, It is very Beautiful There, You Are True Sailor Sir, Safe Travels And Can't Wait for Your Next video, Wendy
That's a beautiful place to wake up! Rock formations we're just awe inspiringly stunning.. ✌🏼💗😊❣️ Sorry for everyone effected by the volcano.. a for the loss of any vessels... Sending love an healing energy ✌🏼💗😊❣️
Some truths about sailing, the wind will always shift to coming from where you want to go, the wind will always pick up when you approach a dock or an anchorage
To help trim your sails put telltales on the leach on the main. Telltales on the genoa on the luff. Trim the genoa from the luff. The main from the leach.
always a treat to settle in with a beer and a Seadog video! re your hats: have you tried a hat retainer??... clip to back of hat and goes round neck ; can use old convention ID neck lace,etc... cheers!!
She’s looking wonderful even if she’s got a dirty bottom Barry, stay safe and keep the wonderful videos coming. I planned for years to do what you do but unfortunately had an accident that left me disabled, so I enjoy dreaming of doing it through your videos, big thanks and stay safe. ⛵️👍🏻
I loved the video. New Zealand is gorgeous! I like the Three Hats Windy terminology. Now when it gets very windy here in Florida, I will say “It was Three Hats Windy today!” Thank you for sharing your sailing trip around the beauty of New Zealand.
You might want to flatten the Mainsail by using the boom vang, get better performance to windward. Pull it to center when hard on the wind. Good Luck, stay safe!
As for losing hats: Tie a shoestring to the back of your hat, then tie a safety-pin to the other end of the string. Fasten the pin to the collar of your shirt, jacket or whatever - end of problem.
I have given up hats. For sure I think you know this, but: If you are tacking against wind and the wind shifts so you have to fall off, you have to tack, then you win hight insted of loosing. It’s exausting, but you get there faster. Love your videos 👌 keep up 👍
Have you thought about putting shadow aground alongside a pier or strong pilings and scraping the hull at low water? A lot easier than diving and freezing in the cold water. Your keel is certainly long and strong enough to support the boats weight and with strong tie in ropes and some leaning weight on the inboard beam she should stay inclined to your supporting piles or pier! Fair sailing. Ray.
Amazed that you say you are not a “trim expert”, yet you have sailed half the world. I’m boating 3 years and sailing not yet one year, and trim is the number one thing I am excited to learn. I have the RYA’s Sail Trim book which is invaluable and a couple of round the world friends, who interpret it for me! Love yet another video from you Barry. You are like my big brother!
I have clips that prevent my hat from blowing away. They consist of a shoe string, or just a piece of string, with a small alligator clip connected to each end. One clip clips onto the back edge of my hat and the other clips onto the collar of my t shirt, no more lost caps! Try it... You can also buy them pre made.
Another great video! I was thinking "that's a cool hat...!" when in the next scene it is in the water! Shadow looks every bit the explorer with tackle going in every direction...
I think i'd be fishing over the side the entire time! Glad you dodged the tsunami mate. They're talking opening Aus for tourist visa by Easter but who knows. Thanks for the great content, living the dream but keeping it real!
The Quartermaster Barry, Have enjoyed your videos for years and the way you explain the good, the bad and the ugly life of exploration as a cruising sailor. You got my seal of approval with your visit to Minerva Reef! The remoteness and magisty of this atoll was inspiring. Fair winds and smooth seas!
Enjoying the videos Barry. Just binged watched back from the start when you first got the boat…took about a week or just over…what a journey you’ve had so far. I bought my boat last year from your home town of Plymouth and enjoyed being around there, I was on a mooring up the tamar for a while. Anyway great videos and looking forward to future adventures 👍🏼
HS = 1.34 x √LWL Waterline absolutely matters for displacement hulls. Small boats go fast because they get on plane. Which you know. :)~ Good job tacking into the inlet. Reefing keeps the boat flatter when the wind powers up in gusts and lowers your center of heeling. A reefed headsail would have helped a reefed main pull more lift and might have helped you get a slightly tighter angle to windward... nevertheless it's nice to see you actually sailing upwind. I've mentioned to you in past comments about the double restrained boom - I did it on my boat too, but it helps avoid problems when the wind powers up if you let the boom float a little bit more so it spills rather than carving you up. Hope that helps - Cheers.
What a fantastic shot of “The Old Woman” at the Heads. Thank you. So good to see Ocean Beach from the sea as my father would never let us anchor there. He also would never spend overnight anchored at the Hen & Chicks, good call not to do so either. Fair winds.
Thank you for taking me around the world.I’ve enjoyed it so much.xx
Look forward to ur videos every week. Why i ask myself? Cause u living your dream! Ur a insparation!
The wind here is what produces Americas Cup champions!
Someone told me its always warm and sunny in Newzealand 🤔
Thanks for showing the truth.
3 Hats! Stop feeding the wildlife 🤣
Another great adventure Barry 💖💖💖👍👍👍👊

Thnk you for your videos. It is so good to see someone my age out at sea. That means there is still hope for me :-) God bless.
Great to see you out on the water again ... but you worry too much Barry. You’ve sailed half way round the World ... believe in yourself! 👏👍😊⛵️🍺
It seems it's the wind he doesn't trust.
Having my anchor rum from my couch at home as I watch, TY!
Barry: "I'm not actually a technically good sailor at all"
Also Barry: sails halfway around the world singlehanded
Both true statements.
Technically ok.
Bloody good job on half way around the world - not bad for an Old Seadog technically not a good sailor for sure
Effective and safe works for me 😀
Tilley makes a great hat with chin and back of head straps, keeps sun off your ears too. Love mine.
Hi Barry. A very enjoyable clip. White Shadow is looking good. Your new windlass is clearly working well and your new sails look good. Nothing like crispy new sails.
Best regards.
AL Vancouver, Canada.
Shaddy looks fabulous after all your hard work. Congrats!
Hen and Chicken Islands chickened out with collywobbles. Better safe than sorry with White Shadow looking new again, as though she has a minted owner, she's looking so spiffy these days. Good work Barry!
Another great video , always look forward to your vids. SHIVER ME TIMBER'S,,, cheers 🍸.

That gimball stabilizer really adds to the viewing experience! Absolutely LOVE all your vids!! Keep 'em coming!

That's why there's no video of Barry stuck on rocks, caution and prudence in unknown waters. Well done Barry.
Enjoy your video sailing ⛵️ sailboat ⛵️! 😘⛵️😀 Mike frommM
Hey, Barry!
Nice video again, and thanks for sharing!
For to protect your hands from shell cuts while hull cleaning, I highly recommend to invest in butcher gloves!
Fair winds and happy sailing!
Don't worry you've got your noodle behind you in case you get into trouble !
Brilliant mate Yeah that Good It feels like I’m waiting forever for another video 🇬🇧👍
I’ve been a long time subscriber and love your vlogs. I just wanted to say what a great job you did on Shaddy. She really looks wonderful, all your hard work and effort really shows! Keep the vlogs coming. Wishing you following seas and safe passages. God Bless!
Am I the only one wanting the old seadog to continue his round the world trip?
Agree the NZ layover is starting to get a bit tedious
Love your vids. Haven't watched for a while but what a pleasure catching up.
Great video Barry as always!
Tks for sharing
Nice to know u keep safe after Tonga episode
Regards
Drift Barry Drift .Don't Shaddy look good... Panama hat...
Ciao lucky Barry, what a life you're living, from my heart good for you. Abt sheltered relaxing bay, from my pc, i could see Parua Bay. It looks the best spot just around yr corner. And maybe you can also get a fresh beer and fish&chips?! Fair Winds and cheers to life 🍻🍻
Shaddy really looks like a new boat.
'Yes, Barry, I did enjoy it very much. Thank you again for sharing your very interesting experiences with us.'
Don't you just love it when the dog barks at the wind? 🐶
What a wonderful Title 😊
Barry how are you, it looks ur enjoying more to sail alone again as usual but for me i more like it when you sing with ur friends it's more exciting..
Barry, you're a tough old bird to be living like that at your age and I must say, hats off to you!
No pun intended, of course.
Here's a idea. When in Australia grab a coupler of s/h bread makers... for trade at the islands. They could learn to make Pizza for the yachties passing through.
Love the shot of you at the helm, you've done this before by the look of it... x.
Thanks for sharing !
Ah, excellent video as usual. You really need to get down to the Sth Island for the most beautiful scenery tho. Hope you visit before departing our shores
Agree with Nelson Sailor….South Island …esp. Nelson. I have a beer with your name on it waiting here :)
Watched all the way on your epic journey. Made a few comments on the way- but in my 85th year I remain an avid visitor to your vlogs
Barry, I found the simple solution. Two safety pins, on length of nylon, pin one end to the cap and the other to your shirt or coat. I never lost a cap. Stay safe. Great videos.
Missed a great opportunity for a ‘man overboard drill’ when the hat went AWOL.🤣
I see your drying the new hair piece Barry 😂😂
When your gut tells you something. You listen. That is my motto. Or better to be safe than sorry. Keep up the good work.
White Shadow looks sharp and ship shape.
You are absolutely correct, New Zealand is riotously beautiful.
Hats off to you Barry! Shaddy is looking great after the re-fit and your photography is superb, keep up the good work.
That's a beautiful place to wake up! Rock formations we're just awe inspiringly stunning.. ✌🏼💗😊❣️
Sorry for everyone effected by the volcano.. a for the loss of any vessels... Sending love an healing energy ✌🏼💗😊❣️
Those awkward uncomfortable moments are often the ones that let us know we are most alive.
Nicely done Barry!
Cheers.
I think you worry to much ; You seem to be a very capable seaman😁👍
Some truths about sailing, the wind will always shift to coming from where you want to go, the wind will always pick up when you approach a dock or an anchorage
I've found that over the years.
Again I say... come to Tassie! You'll love it ;-)
To help trim your sails put telltales on the leach on the main. Telltales on the genoa on the luff. Trim the genoa from the luff. The main from the leach.

Seadog, you da man.
Really enjoyed this fab footage while sitting in my kitchen watching the rain battering the window here in Scotland.
I loved the video. New Zealand is gorgeous! I like the Three Hats Windy terminology. Now when it gets very windy here in Florida, I will say “It was Three Hats Windy today!” Thank you for sharing your sailing trip around the beauty of New Zealand.
