In 2006, Leonard Cohen was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. k.d. lang agreed to pay tribute to the legendary singer-songwriter with a rendition of his beloved song, “Hallelujah.” She had never performed the song for Cohen and “was excruciatingly nervous” knowing he would be in the audience. After her amazing performance, she received a standing ovation, and, as the credits began to roll, she ran down the stage steps towards Leonard to offer him her reverence and appreciation. He rose to meet her and they warmly, respectfully embraced. Of all the myriad versions of his song, he said that k.d. lang's version was the best. If you want to hear it, search RUclips for: kd lang "Hallelujah" CSHF 2006.
KD's instrument is her voice, and she has absolute masterful control over it. Every note is perfectly placed, and just when you think she can't possibly hold a note longer, it's like a magical 3rd lung comes in, and she sustains the note even longer.
Her vocals go without saying, but her phraseology, timing , knowing when to wail, and when to almost whisper Hallelujah! Just will grip you in her hands.
There are many beautiful renditions of this song but none compare to KD Lang's perfomance....you feel every single emotion...it isn't just her voice, it is her entire performance...it is almost like watching a play!
I've listened to K.D. more times than I can count. She is the total package of a performer. Her voice is one of the best I've ever heard. I've tried to listen to other versions, but they are not even close. There are not enough adjectives to describe her voice. ❤
You described her perfectly, I feel the same way. I've heard her sing this song dozens of times and the emotion she shows singing it still makes me cry.
The 2010 Olympics provided a spectacular setting but I personally prefer this performance. By far the best I've ever seen by any female singer. Thanks for reacting to it, Nick. I'm sure you're not the only one who gets goosebumps and tears up watching this video.🧡
Cohen himself said ( after this performance ) that no one but Lang should ever be allowed to sing this song. It's definitely the best version out there. And another G.O.A.T. song for the Holidays is CELINE DION'S 1998 - has to be the 1998 version - of O HOLY NIGHT - The last few notes at the end will take your breath away! Would love to see your reaction! Xoxo from Canada❤!
Check out the version she sings on the k.d. lang and the Sis Boom Bang at the Edmonton Film Festival. I have listened to...and loved...every single version from her but that one...OMG!
She’s one of our Canadian national treasures and this was simply stunning. Glad you took the time to enjoy this performance. And yes, she was often barefoot on stage 😊
he wrote the song, of course he owns it. Leonard also said that he thought that the song had reached a certain saturation level and could be retired now, excepting for KD Lang singing it.
Love your reaction ❤ I don’t know how many times I have seen this & still get goosebumps every time k.d. is AMAZING ❤ she also fills in for Neil Young at this awards show as he was in hospital she sings his song Helpless FANTASTIC ❤ hoping you will react to some early k.d. She is such a livewire Turn Me Round/Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray from the Johnny Carson show , Bopalena, Johnny Get Angry, Hanky Panky a few suggestions ❤ x
I get a great deal of joy by watching reactions to kd lang and not just because she possesses my favourite voice of all time but for the joy it gives people who know just how good she really is. My gift to you is this: ruclips.net/video/OckbWIr-NQk/видео.html It is a video of one of her appearances on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and it is a version of her cover of Patsy Cline's "Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray". It is stunning, even when you're familiar with the power of her voice.
Check her performance in front of Leonard Cohen. They both bowed to each other at the end of the song. Plus he declared that her version was the best he'd heard, the ultimate.
K.D. Lang has always been my favorite female singer. React to her hits: "Constant Craving" and "The Consequences of Falling". She will blow your mind. New sub. 😎
This is my favorite performance of this song. Please listen to Today I Walk and Bird on a Wire. I listen to all three at least once a day. And The Valley, how could I forget her version of The Valley. She is amazing.
Hi Nick, I love your reactions, you have so much empathy and genuine emotion. Have you reacted to Shinedown’s A Symptom of Being Human? I feel like you’d love that song and really resonate with it.

This is a boring song when performed by most, but NOT when preformed by K.D.Lang! She makes every song her own every time she sings ❤
A few months ago, KD was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame. Just before that, she sat down with CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) The National's Ian Hanomansing for an interview. A great interview which includes many clips of her performances and recordings over the years: ruclips.net/video/nGX2EeCg57I/видео.htmlsi=lC1ejEDmadugM8bk
There's a thing about singers who don't wear shoes. I think they want to know where their body is. So they can do justice to a song. Roots. Don't want to think about how to walk in these shoes .. . . I want to bring something alive.
Take the journey of discovery and look up the CD / Album Hymns of the 49th Parallel …every tune is worth the price of admission…you will not be disappointed my friend - Take care
Please react to Diana Ankudinova two absolutely different songs from art of Hans Zimmer no time to die and soundtrack of movie dune. Do you remember her,, can't help falling in love "?
Have you watched her MTV Unplugged cover of Roy Orbison's "Crying"? I think I recommended it on your Olympic review...but It's been a while. Lol PS... she's often barefoot 😊
I'm not sure which one started going bare foot first, but I think it was Anne Murray from Nova Scotia, followed by her friend k.d. and then by Adam Lambert much later; may be others that I'm not aware of - all three indicated it 'kept them grounded'
This song has a beautiful melody. Do some research on the lyrics and their meaning ! There’s one verse that has to do with having an orgasam. The person who eventually recorded it said the same thing..no one understands it. It is a lament for a lost love. Check it out.

I thought for sure we were gonna get some tears from Nick!😉
I have heard so many versions, but this is by far my favorite. She brings goosebumps every time, and believe me, I've listened to it 100's of times.
She has one of the best version of this song. The angst & tenderness is all there. I love hearing her voice. Thanks.
The best

I love KD's performance at the Olympics as well, but I really think she literally outdid herself here. Enjoyed your reaction.
I love this version of hers.
Your reactions to our KD make me well up with tears.
Once in a generation voice. So humble. Talent and kindness.🧡
Her vocals go without saying, but her phraseology, timing , knowing when to wail, and when to almost whisper Hallelujah! Just will grip you in her hands.
One of the absolute best voices I have ever heard!
She's sings this with pure passion! I have chills through me!! ❤❤
KD is amazing. This performance always moves me. What a voice.
That was sung in front of her peers. That was an award show in Canada.

No matter how many times I’ve listened to/watched this performance, it’s always a transcendental experience. ❤
She is so good... always! And her voice is so honest!
Her duet with Roy Orbison crying is another fave of mine, and also her cover of it after he passed... ❤
I have always been in awe of her voice.
This, IMHO is the best version (of many ones) that she's done. A true gem and so incredibly humble.
You described her perfectly, I feel the same way. I've heard her sing this song dozens of times and the emotion she shows singing it still makes me cry.
I'm glad to see her piers recognized her talent. Her voice is POWERFUL ❤

She recorded with some great artists (Roy Orbison, Tony Bennett...) Her performance of Crying at the tribute to Roy Orbison is also stunning.
You feel like she's wrapping you in a big warm hug!!!
She has such a beautiful voice.

Thanks, Nick - KD is amazing. I hope you react to more from her.. including originals.. appreciate this reaction..
Absolutely the best version of this song. Better than even her Olympics version. Pure excellence on every level.

She is an Amazing singer ❤🎉 She doesn't get enough kudos from people. I know you appreciate her voice as I do❤🎉
She’s one of our Canadian national treasures and this was simply stunning. Glad you took the time to enjoy this performance. And yes, she was often barefoot on stage 😊
Hello Nick Forell from BC Canada KD Lang can sing her ass off. Beautiful voice and my fellow Canadian.
Her rendition of Bird on a wire is also amazing!
I've also heard many beautiful versions of this song but this one brought me to tears and new understanding of the lyrics.
She owns this song now.
Watch KD cover Crying by Roy Orbison 😢😢😢😢😢
The Live at London version by Leonard Cohen shows how much he owns this song.
he wrote the song, of course he owns it. Leonard also said that he thought that the song had reached a certain saturation level and could be retired now, excepting for KD Lang singing it.
You need to listen to k.d. lang singing "Skylark". Absolute perfection. The song was used in the movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
Easiest by far the best version of this. Awesome

This a Record Standing Ovation! 😊
Best ever! Thanks Nick!❤❤❤❤
Beautiful
Love KD!!! You need to react to her solo cover of Roy Orbison's "Crying", especially the tribute performance 1990
New subscriber, I see you have reacted to Crying 👍
My girl crush 💚
Thanks for reacting to this version 🎶🎵
K.D. Lang has always been my favorite female singer. React to her hits: "Constant Craving" and "The Consequences of Falling". She will blow your mind. New sub. 😎
The first time I saw k.d.lang was on the TV Show "Hee Haw" in 1986. She was mostly country when she started out.
Yes. Her favorite singer is Patsy Cline
She was in a group called KD Lang and the Reclines.
Rockabilly
Check out “Barefoot” from the film “Salmonberries”.
👍Outstanding. Super cool performance. 🖖❤
Always loved K.D but I haven’t listened to her for years. Need to dig those old songs . She’s fantastic
Amazing.
This is my favorite performance of this song. Please listen to Today I Walk and Bird on a Wire. I listen to all three at least once a day. And The Valley, how could I forget her version of The Valley. She is amazing.
I would melt into a puddle of pure bliss is KD and Adam Lambert dueted anything.

Leonard Cohen wrote a song The Partisan. I suggest you listen to his version of it. ...and we'll come from the shadows....
Amazing. If you want another Canadian classic, check out Joni MItchell's "Both Sides Now" (version on RUclips from 7 years ago with the cigarette).
I like this version better.

I prefer this over the Olympics version
🇨🇦❤️
I prefer the Olympics performance (more emotion, IMO)...but honestly, kd ALWAYS nails it!
Leonard Cohen was in the audience....lot of pressure for KD

KD at her best… far too underrated as a singer
