  • For the first time in centuries, young women in Japan are turning away from marriage and relationships. With more Japanese women entering the workforce, earning wages, and enjoying increased economic freedom, gender norms in the country are shifting, giving rise to new economic realities.
In Tokyo, a new wave of services is targeting these women, serving up the "à la carte" boyfriend experience. Whether they're craving a shoulder to cry on, a hunk to take shots with, or a late-night cuddle, Tokyo-based women can fulfill their relational needs on demand and by the hour.
In this episode of 'Slutever,' host Karley Sciortino travels to Tokyo to sample the services that are marketed to the country's powerful single women and speaks with the men who make a living catering to that need.

What I always found fascinating with Japanese culture is, for lack of a better word, the perceived repression. Like work work work, can't cry, not allowed to express feelings, everything is "taboo" yet they are cool with these "pay by the hour" type experiences. Pay to cry with a boy, pay to sit with a boy, pay to cuddle, etc. I understand small amount of population using these services but they seem to exist in the open and ppl are cool with it.

They either don't, or they get in a relationship with someone on a similar business; like a hostess. Normal women wouldn't stand having a relationship with someone whose work consists in having intimacy with other women. However, men in Japan are much less, if at all, pressured by society to quickly get into a relationship and marry than women.

It kind of makes me sad that people are so distant and out of touch with their own emotions that they pay someone to make them cry and loosen up. I can understand the sheep boy's popularity though. They are probably like more intimate psychologists in a way. He hugs, listens and comforts you, makes you feel understood and provides you with the fantasy of a happy relationship. I bet his job isn't as easy as it seems, as he has to fulfill the need of feeling loved, appreciated and cared for in a short amount of time. He also seems more real unlike the boys in this night club. I bet tons of his clients have a crush on him and are recurring customers. Even the interviewer is flirting with him.

This guy recently became so popular that he was doing over 17 cry sessions daily, the advice of many medical experts were submitted to his PA team, stressing that he needed to decrease these appointments or increase his water intake, he did neither. subsequently he died of dehydration. many of his clients cried their hearts out at his funeral! to only find out later that his own apparent death was actually the completion of their cry therapy! He now has several records, the most amount of faked deaths being his most accomplished, he holds the record for most tears shed and most sheders shedding tears. it is thought that he is to blame for the current water shortage in japan, due to tears being an outlet of water that is not recycled back into any water system. since sanctions have been made leaving these appointments under instringent laws, meaning they can only take place in rivers. I hope this helps people. Justin timberlake is said to be keen in using one of these appointments of a re-release single of cry me a river.

Moreover, even though it may look like these "rent-a-boyfriends" are just paid to care, they actually process and understand the situation and give pretty good advice. Andy'all know there aren't this many caring boyfriends.

All the people talking about Japanese culture like they know anything about it is hilarious. I can tell that all of the people that are judging Japan have never been to or lived in Japan cuz if they did they would know that only 0.000000000000001% of people are actually like this and pretty much every person in Japan is happy and has normal, healthy relationships. That would be like me watching a video on white people shooting up schools and being like "white culture is disgsusting!". Educate yourselves before spouting shit and making ignorant assumptions!

AS Japan* has to do better as a society and learn how to express themselves sexually instead of repressing those feelings. You’ll never see a video like this come out of Europe because they’re all free spirited sexually . Japan is unique that way but it has nothing to do with the rest of the world lmao

Crying is the boyfriend experience? Oh, you are doing it wrong...

    • @wello987
      @wello987 6 лет назад +34

tl;dr crying is important, but it's more important to listen
Crying occurs when an emotional stress is too great to maintain. When you cry you're usually experiencing something emotional unless you have tear over-secretion. Building walls is a natural phenomenon that can be used to protect an individual from being too trusting, but too much reinforcement may lead to isolation. By crying and allowing someone to be of comfort, you lend trust to another individual. This building of trust is important in a healthy psyche and has been known to increase the quality of life in most people...and relationships.

He could improve on the helpfulness scale and keep a better controll on his gaming habits, as a gamer myself I know the struggle. Also he respects me and my words and when he does not I just talk to him and annoy him xD till he understands. My hobby is bullying him hehehe

I’m Japanese but I didn’t know these jobs except host so it was really interesting video for me. I think masculinity in Japan is quite different from another countries, be skinny is important condition of beauty in Japan so host show their masculinity by their behaviors and words. The woman who go to host club is wanna forget real life and wants to be treated like a princess so host is kind of prince for them. Actually these cultures are really weird for me too.

Japanese women are often very busy with work and/or school and have very little free time to meet nice guys. Like the video said, a lot of Japanese women are willing to pay for parts of the "boyfriend experience" that they want without having to deal with a real boyfriend. This has been a thing with men in Japan as well where guys can pay to either chat with beautiful women or just cuddle for an hourly rate. The Japanese are very busy people, so in a way it makes sense that these sort of services are around.

Recon that can be said for any city really, subject to your age and social circles.
I guess people who go straight to working hard etc, might feel unfulfilled like this, especially if they had to follow the norm.
I'm from a more "easygoing" country so I think it's more fortunate people can do their thing and work towards being social and having a career they like.
Also, I won't ask you are but like the crying service manager guy said, most women are aged 30-50 which would make sense since they are "mature" and probably have to be "strong" because of society as the video picked up.
I mean I'm nowhere near that age so I can definitely say it would be a bit weird if someone sought out that service when we are young and plenty of change to socialise normally.
But like you said, in Japan you work hard laugh hard which I still think would be harder over there than in other easy going places. And this day of age, people are actually starting to realising that depression is actually a really dire and common condition after all, so if it's to cope I can understand why it happens.
Still, interested to hear your thoughts if you really are from Japan :)
