Good video. You provided an honest but balanced review. I'm 65 and have never owned a handgun with a red dot. Relying on a gun site that needs a battery is not something I'm interested in for in a concealed carry firearm (even though they have come a long way). I think the Ready Dot on a Max 9 is a good way to test the waters to see if a red dot improves my ability to be more accurate without compromising too much speed in site acquisiton. I think if we're serious about being responsible firearm owners, we owe it to ourselves and loved ones, to look into any product that will enable us to be more accurate and safe.

I’m realizing this is meant to shoot with both eyes open. When you bring the gun up to shoot, if you can see the dot in your peripheral vision you are in target. I’m getting used to it, it sometimes takes a split second to get the dot in view, but it’s more accurate and faster than guessing or squinting with irons. I’m in need of a lot more practice with it personally

Yeah I need to practice more. But because my range has a roof over the benches, there is barely enough ambient light to make the dot illuminate- but you’re right, I need to practice fast target acquisition and use the dot as a reference not precision

You did a good job on the video brother. Personally speaking I stay away from lasers and red dot optics. While they sometimes can offer an advantage there's always more that can go wrong with them and there's no substitute for good iron sight skills. That said I'm considering one of these guns, but i insist on a model with a thumb safety. There is a dealer with a sale pricing these at $269.99 and the ec9 for $229.99. Can't go wrong with either.

    • @crankygunreviews

yeah I agree with not relying on a laser or red dot, but again, the ready dot I wanted to try becuase it has no batteries, and you can view the factory sights through it in low light conditions.

I chose this firearm for the value , quality, and options im getting for my money. I look at the Sig 365, Glock 43, Springfield Hellcat,Stoger MC9, and the Canik Mete MC9. I decided on the Max 9

I think it just takes some practice where you have to just bring The Gun up in front of your face. @BuckeyeBallistics Год назад +1

Well for $69 I get it, but for the $99 that is was supposed to cost it makes no sense. It doesn't work in low light/darkness, non adjustable, and the dot is huge. For $99 or literally a few dollars more, you can get a budget (but good) 2 or 3 moa (instead of 15moa) fully adjustable nightime working battery operated dot. And for those worried about battery life, we're talking up to 50,000 hours.
If your ready dot is shooting low, I wonder if you can put a small metal shim under the front of it to tip it upward slightly...

It’s not shooting low, it me needing to get used to it. I was trying to use the dot to cover the front sight, that’s why I was hitting low. Using the factory sights, I need to put the dot completely over the front sight on my target to hit where i want. But then it’s supposed to be zeroed at 25 yards I think I was shooting at like 12 yards…
The jury is still out.. I figure I can always make my $69 back if it turns out I hate it

I'm new to guns, could I ask, why do people often put something inside the gun ring in front of the trigger (a pen, shotgun shell, flashlight)? Just to block anything else from pushing the trigger?
Does 124 grain give more kick than 115? And does +P give even more?
Final question. Is the objective that "the bullet goes whereever the red dot is"? Or does the red dot HAVE TO be lined up with the front green sight?

    • @crankygunreviews
      @crankygunreviews  11 месяцев назад +2

      All good questions.
      1) typically no. You need to be comfortable handling your gun if you’re going to carry it. I put stuff in the trigger guard to hold them up for videos, not to keep the trigger from being pressed. I am not a fan of trigger blocks or anything inserted in the trigger guard when the gun is loaded.
      2) just a 115 be 124 vs 147 grain comparison is not relevant… powder charge, powder type, bullet type all matter to some extent- many times heavier bullets are slower thus less recoil, or at least a different recoil impulse. +p 9mm typically will have a little more recoil or sharper recoil because the higher velocity
      3) in theory if the red dot is zeroed correctly it’s point and shoot, but it’s more of an aid - rapid target acquisition so you don’t have to line up your sights to shoot. It gets you very close- a large dot like this one (15mil dot) will give quick target acquisition but it’s not as accurate- a smaller dot is more accurate, but may be a little harder for some to acquire the target. I tent to shoot slower with a red dot because I have to find it in the viewing window- with practice you can be hood with either red dot or iron sights- try both, see what you like. I’d say if your just starting out the Max 9 or a Taurus G3 or G3C toro with optics cut are a hood place to start, you can try with iron sights and add an optic and see what you like

But, the California Max-9s are NOT optic capable, instead there some indicator bar in that place instead. You might have known that already, but just thought I'd mention it for anyone who didn't.
