This guy is brilliant. He really knows his stuff.
Thank you
Great channel , family friendly. Your passion for cars is amazing. Putting old cars back on the road
Thank you
"You want to be able to smoke as much as you can while driving"🤣🤣 That is SO true; both of my parent's smoked when I was was younger - in the house and out driving. It was widely accepted back then.
Yes it was
What I like about you dude is you don't waste time going on about this might happen and that might happen and we have to do this and that, you just get it done and we get loads of contents and plenty of action also your animals all get involved and you have a great family around you. Keep them coming your vids are great.
Thank you very much I try not to waste any time in the videos
@@Sleeperdude my favorite.... you need a Edsel now ....I'm glad y'all found out about Coker!!!

As you found, slotting the cap doesn't change the timing. It DOES help INDEX the cap if that is needed to prevent cross fire. I could see it being used on 1980's cars with radical timing due to dual pickups for smog stuff. If the burn marks are at the leading or trailing edge of an aluminum contact distributor cap's contents, that is a hint it could be indexed. Cutting view holes in and old cap and putting the timing light on the cap with the engine running can see which way you might want to index it. Clear caps help on this. You could section a cap and but it on with the engine off and put the no 1 piston at TDC to get a rough idea, too.
As for the vacuum advance, there is none at idle since it is Ported, rather than Manifold.
Assuming you used the recommended port on the carb. Rev it up and see if you feel vacuum coming from the hose. Also, put some suction on the vacuum port on the distributor and see if the plate moves. Or see if the diaphragm is leaking vacuum inside the can.
Moving the wires on the cap is going to change your spark timing 360/8 = 45 degrees at the distributor = 90 degrees at the crank. So, not an option.
Why don't you put a socket on the crank and rotate the engine back and forth and watch the inside of the distributor to see how much slack you have in the timing chain?
I have heard of guys taking a fuel pump from one common engine and having the arm replaced to make if fit on an engine type where no replacement fuel pumps are available. But your pump was working fine for now.
Keep up the great content.
OK thank you I must’ve had it on the wrong port because it did have full vacuum at idle
@@Sleeperdude Yes. All cars from around 1960-72 that I know of have it on ported ( only when throttle is open), You must have had it on a manifold vacuum port. Which, as you saw, give too much timing at idle.
And make it hard to set the timing or mixture screws.
You, on ported vacuum, should have had zero vacuum at idle and moderate vacuum when you rev it up. (From 73 to 85 they use both ports and a bunch of valves and solenoids to balance between them. )
Use the suction test on the vacuum can before you hook up the hose. If it won't hold a vacuum, replace the can. I got just the can for about 20 dollars at the parts store (for a different old car).
As for those windows, I have to believe the vent windows and the main windows use different fuses, and relay and circuit breaker. You need the wiring diagram from the Factory Service Manual FSM to find them in the car.
Sometimes some enthusiast car sites have PDF files of the FSM or at least the wiring diagrams.
The full wheel covers look good. Just put a bit of white rustolem on the spots missing paint. I had the white last a couple of years on a car sitting outside when the other colors just peeled off or faded off.
OK here is a redneck tip. Use propane to replace the missing R12 and see if you can get the AC charged up. It works so well they have a conspiracy to make you think it doesn't. No it isn't dangerous. Every car in Germany and most structures use propane/butane or similar. The overpriced Dupont monopoly trash we use is prohibited over there. I will delete this last paragraph after you read it. :)
Viewing from Europe, this is hysterical , i remember watching 'The clampits' aa a kid, I love how Americans dont care what they look like ,sound like or drive around in. unlike us who are constantly concerned about 'status'
Such a talented dude and a great dad. Love that you spend time teaching and having fun with your kids and not just shoving an iPad in front of them. That time goes fast and you don’t get a do over!
Thank you I hope I am doing a good job
@@Sleeperdude Love your channel and love this car. I don't know if you put a filter screen back on the fuel sending boot but if you didn't, you can always put one of those extra in line fuel filters. They are only a couple bucks and easy change. BTW, I think car has the tilt wheel and it would be on the turn signal lever.

For sure thanks
My bud and I customized one these once...it was one of the most expensive customizations ever. There is nothing cheap about those parts. Believe it or not the Mark III was cheaper to rebuild. Great job on this old beast...
Yes stuff is expensive for these cars you are right
@@Sleeperdude yep unobtaineum rust now.
I love your videos and this is one of my all time favorite cars. I enjoy watching you bring these cars back to life. You are a fantastic mechanic and a great father. It's great that you are showing Ralphie and your girls how to work on these cars! I also crack up at Rocky. Keep up the good work and keep makin’ those videos!
Thank you I appreciate it
Yup Rockie is a star . Pebbles is so cute and the rest of the animals are a blast
Really glad to hear you still have the Lincoln. The '66 my dad bought from my uncle had an exhaust manifold leak. My uncle was a mechanic and I spent a few Saturdays one summer helping him take apart the engine to replace the gasket. The car also had an aftermarket electric fuel pump that was a problem it was replaced with the correct fuel pump. This was back in the early '80s and after it was fixed it was such a cool car for me to drive to school in the 11th grade. Brings back great memories. Looking forward to your next episode with the Lincoln!
That’s a neat story thank you
I ran across this video and watched it last night , wow Rocky and the kids look soo young, lol! This is before you only wore your own merch, and first fan mail gift Garth Brooks CD’s! This is great!
You want to know how it drove when it was new? They took your breath away! 73 Town Car too! Some of the most beautiful automobiles ever made!
Nice
I know nothing about cars or how to fix them. I inherited my Dad's tool chest which was a rusted screwdriver and a bent hammer LOL. Love watching your vids! Great job, mate!
That’s funny thanks for watching
Always a blast watching you work. Id Definitely recommend some air cleaners for these old gems. Without them, it’s like sandblasting your pistons. Not to mention, don’t want to catch that beauty on fire. Love your channel?
Hey thanks good advice
Mad how much the kids have changed in 2 years 😮
A great fun familly video of mechanic work, car clean up, and a cute goat by the name of rock and car brought back to future well done .....

Power vent windows.....you’ve made it to the top!!
Yep

Will do thank you
I had a 53 Lincoln Capri Red and Black. two door hardtop. 375 hp would cruse at high speed in cruse control and got 25 mpg without fail. Drove all over the west when I was in the Navy. Great Cars. lpo
So cool
Those WHEEL COVERS are great on this car, nice.

That’s awesome thank you
Spent about 5 hours watching your channel today .. killing it keep doing what ur doing 🙌
That’s awesome thank you for watching
Me too! The video's are infections with his wit, patience and knowledge sharing! I'm hooked!
From someone who rode and drove one new, it was like you never left your living room sofa. Here is the thing , you are in possession of a rare bird because those cars were junk from the factory, always and I do mean always ,something wrong with them. The cheaper (less options) on the Ford or Mercury the better off you were. Lincoln’s were loaded with options. A friend had a 67 convertible, now there is trouble. In weighs in at 6300 lbs. and if the top goes down and stores itself in the trunk, God just performed a miracle. All my pops family were Ford die hards but I became a Cadillac die hard. Brought my first one at age 16, A well used and abused 58 Fleetwood. It had 158000 or so miles and still was very quite and would cruise down the road at 90 mph and never get out of breath, if you could keep that ethyl gas in it. It was not a go on a date car. Love your channel you are lucky in many ways. God Bless!
Thank you
Ive got where I have to watch you and your family every day when I get home from work love
Thank you
My 1966 2 door Lincoln had the 460 and it overheated all the time. Finally installed an electric fan and solved that issue completely. That engine ran as sooth as glass. Loved it. 1966 I think was the last year with all the chrome plastered throughout the interior.
That’s cool
good, that the whole family works on your projects, many blessings
Thank you I am blessed
This is an oldie but goodie the kids were so little back then love the stinkin Lincoln
YOU MY FRIEND HAVE THE BEST FAMILY VIDS ON RUclips

Thanks for the family friendly content. My 2 yr old grandson loves to watch ya'll with Papaw! (I think he find Rocky very helpful)
That’s awesome . Thank you
You are straight up one of the best to watch on RUclips..great family values…love the content..take care 🇨🇦
Thank you
You asked about the speedometer design, it operates with a drum similar to the Ford model A but it’s mounted horizontally and runs the length of the lens across the instrument cluster so that a red bar indicates the speed. Almost like a thermometer. It’s pretty neat for 1960’s technology. One more thought, liberal amounts of vaseline will moisturize the leather seat covers just as well as fancy conditioners. It’s also the main component in dielectric compound sold for battery terminals.
Ok thank you
The cleaning made the car look 20years younger .
it made big different`s only cleaning the car .
The car look so good all over.
Thank you
I like to see your family involved in your videos. Keep this sort of content coming and I will watch every one of them!

I love that car. It should be restored for Tosh. A great cruiser to take to church. You could have your Drums set up in that trunk. Lol
Love the channel. Keep em coming
That would be funny
So glad Rocky showed up to inspect your brake work 👍. Brakes, carbs, interior quality control.. that goat knows it all 😂
The two door version of this car is one of my all time favourites, this one has a lot of potential though. 👍😎
Yes for sure thank you
That is a nice one. I agree, it would be cool to see what that one was like when it was new. For getting rust off the bumpers, I have recently been adding some PB Blaster to the steel wool. It seems to remove it easier and leaves a little protection for the rusty spots. Give it a try and see what you think.
Ok thank you
You were a smart man to drop that tank buddy
Yeah it’s better just to do it every time a car has been sitting I’m just lazy sometimes
Please keep posting videos of this build!
You,Rocky & your children, really do good work. I enjoy ALL your video's. I live in New Zealand. I've been here since 2000. I have a nephew who lives in Crossville, TN.
Oh wow small world I grew up near crossville thank you for watching
Those white walls fit the car so well
Yes they do
I own a 1974 Lincoln Mark 4 and I daily drive it and I absolutely love it
That’s awesome
Thought you might like to know, to remove rust from chrome, Coca Cola and Aluminum foil wad. Used it on extremely rusty Ford pickup front bumper. Rinsed with water and sprayed down with WD-40 no results! Also, to remove smudges and surface rust from paint, scratch free scouring pad and Barbasol or cheaper shave cream. Some tougher rust, cheap tooth paste. (surface rust, rust from another item deposited on paint) also rubbing compound or clay bar. Like your lifestyle. Good family man and Christian. I'm 86yo and love old cars. Some of my favorites: 31 mod A Ford, 40 Ford convertible, 47 Lincoln Cont. 51 Ford Victotia, 58 Pontiac Bonneville convertible, 63 Volvo P80, 77 Volvo 240. My absolute favorite 1937 Packard Roadster. I now drive a 1990 Volvo 740 LE DOHC. Keep up the good work and I'll keep on watching. Thanks
Thank you I appreciate it
Cool just noticed where they put the radio 📻 behind the steering
Yes 👍
Your daughter brings her dad luck with a horseshoe! Good on you girl!
She’s did
Get some paint on those rust wounds and this one would be a perfect sunday church car! Even rent it out for weddings!😍
Ok thanks
perfect music overlay . love it , great work guys , and fam jam
Nice to see that car back on the road again! Looking forward to seeing what you do next to it. Hoping to see some paint work!
Thank you
Beautiful ride! Killer white walls

That's one of my all time favorite cars. My uncle had a black Continental with the suicide doors that was amazing back in the day but fell victim to living in the northeast...that was unfortunate. It's a dream car but I'd need to expand my garage.
Very cool
wight Lincoln in the Flick Smoky and the Bandit Feelin like a Movie old day's Mow we wow we .
Beautiful places a great car and an excellet video!
Thank you
The reason you are having trouble with the timing is you need to get the base of the distributor moving. Just moving the cap the points are still going off at the original time point and the cap is not letting it send the spark out correctly. So get that base moving and good luck and God bless
Ok thank you
@@Sleeperdude you're welcome. I enjoy your videos keep up the good work
Yes. Timing is the moment the points open. For that reason having the points gap set too wide will advance the timing (slightly) as they start to open too soon. So check the gap before setting the timing, if you get that base moving.
Yes and unhooking the vacuum only pulls timing under acceleration
@@M_Phipps0520 There are 2 types ported and manifold vacuum.
Ported advances the timing when you open the throttles due to a stronger signal above the butterfly's and the manifold vacuum drops.
Manifold vacuum advances the timing during cruise when the manifold vacuum is high and retards during excel when the manifold vacuum drops.
Disconnecting the vacuum on both setups will eliminate the advance .
From the description that car is set up with ported vacuum not a real good setup running off manifold vacuum is much better.
You get the advance at cruise for mileage with manifold vacuum and it drops under acceleration to reduce ping.
But the distributor has to be recurved to use it that way.
Some had dual vacuum advance pots trying to get the best of both versions at the same time.
What a hi. tichnology was added to this car in 1960s!!!
It is possibilly was the car of its Era...
God be with you my friend to give us the apportunity to see those cars on the roads again..
Please give my hi to LOVELY LITTLE Squeezy...God bless you all with family.❤💜💚💛
Thank you
I was born in 1967, now I've bought a 2017 I'm interested in these & all Lincoln Continental videos.
That’s cool
That distributer stuck in there is gonna mess you up. It took several tries to get mine out of the 70 Thunderbird. I took it to a mechanic that had the torch, he finally got it out and set it correctly and rebuilt the carburetor. Wish I never sold it. Now on the hunt for a 70 or 71.
Yeah it was crazy I couldn’t get it to turn for nothing even with a torch
@@Sleeperdude Check to make sure but im pretty sure that has the same distributor as an FE. 352,360, 390 ect. So if it does you can get a little uh aggressive getting it loose since FE distributors are easy to find
Moving the cap only will not change the points dwell.Dwell changes timing, timing doesn't change dwell. You always do dwell first then set timing.
Ok thank you
17:22 I’m nominating you for an Oscar and a Grammy! Best musical ever, lol!
That’s great
Great now got everything working thanks 🙏
Good work buddy and hello from UK, lovin the channel and rocky just cracks me up 😄 look forward to the next one 👍🏾👍🏾

Hey Sleeperdude! I'm a new sub, from Canada. I appreciate you actually doing follow up videos on your projects. So many guys who do similar content do one video and move on. Love the old Fords! My Dad was a Ford guy, who had 2 T-Birds and other Fords back in the day. Keep doing what you're doing. Oh, and I love the funny comments. :)
Thank you I appreciate it
Another great classic. Have ya'll ever been to the ginormous town of Chucky Tennessee? When I was there in the 80's it had a huge population of 120. That's where my family tree started. I believe I'm the last leaf on that tree.
Love the old lincolns, caddies and cryslers, great rides, lot of power...
Yes super nice cars especially for their time
Then Coker's and hubcaps looking good. Yeah waiting on that wagon.
The wagon is in my next video coming out this week
@@Sleeperdude Right On.
Is that a 4 track or 8 track player? I think I'll find some for you if you think it'll work.
Love the projects!!! I wish I could find a old car like this to work on.
I’m actually not sure
My daddy used to own a silver 67 Lincoln continental. When I was Ralphie's age I used to sit in the back seat while going down the road.I would look through the hood ornament like they were crosshairs and pretend to shoot other cars as if they were the enemy. lol.
That’s funny I did the same thing in my dads 80 Buick park avenue
Squeeze looks so with her heart glasses. Just had to look at this old video after watching the latest family trip vid.
You'll have to get with Derek over at Vise Grip Garage since he has moved somewhere in Tennessee.
I have reached out to him but I have not got a response
You should work out all the bugs and then take the family out to the Power Tour next year like Vice Grip Garage did with his family
That would be fun
Had a friend in High School who had this same car same year and body style who rebuilt the thing back from the ground up Him and his Dad,,Painted it black and tinted the windows a Dark green,,So many coats of black and clear coat youd yhink it was always wet,,Killer looking car And all the chrome was redone,,They were great looking cars
Awesome thank you
I was skeptical about the old girl but she cleaned up nicely
Thank you

Good idea
T-Bird caps look brilliant on that car.

I hope so thank you
I don't know how I missed this video. Another great job
Thank you
We enjoy watching your channel
Thanks so much
That car deserves a full restoration.
Never saw Tom Jones in concert ,but we did see Johnny Cash and Glen Campbell ,they were great .
That’s awesome
Watching the gas coming from the pump made me think of my dad. He always said when you start to gas a Lincoln up you need to kill the engine so the station pump will catch up with it. I understand many of those cars got eight miles per gallon on the highway.
That’s funny
For the distributor, there is a tool to yank it out. It is like a hammer puller. I had one in my toolbox for years! It has two horseshoes that clamp under the distributor & just hit the hammer up & it will pull it out.
Ok interesting I needed one
I was 16 had one just like it loved it
That’s cool
The last time I heard the word casings was dealing with recaps. The rest of us call them tires. Welcome to the world of luxury cars. I've 18 Cadillacs and 3 Lincolns. Bought every one of the dirt cheap.
That’s awesome nice collection
@@Sleeperdude I meant to say, I've had.....lol. Only one Cadillac and one Lincoln right now. I would love to have some of them back. If we only knew what they were going to be worth. Great video.

Yes she’s a big girl !! Thanks for watching
Back from about 1960 on it was my job to wash and wax and vacuum out the car every Saturday morning, My Dad was a car guy so his had to look sharp, Those white walls cleaned up spotless with either Comet or Ajax and a 1"x3" stiff bristle brush, and for the worst case I had an SOS pad to remove the black marks because my Mother drove by the Braille System. I really hated it when Mom tried to parallel park. I could pull off the fender skirts in nothing flat so I could get to the whole wheel. And my Dad loved pure paste wax, I wasn't as big a fan. Keep up the good work
That’s funny
Had a 65 Ford Galaxy. Great car. Had a 289. You guessed it about engine miss. The right bank spark plug wires sat on exhaust manifold. Would burn wire then changed them . Would last for a thousand miles then had to change the wire. No place to hang them. Love your videos.
