About edible flowers, here in France we have violets (and rose petals) preserved in crystalized sugar, it comes from the city of Toulouse, it is delicious. It is also possible to eat nasturtium (capucine in French) in a salad, it has a slight peppery taste, and add some orange sparks to the greenery ........
I’d love to go to France. Definitely on my list.
So, my bucket list has changed from France to Italy.
i like nasturtium in salads! haven't had it forever since i think they like cold climates
looks like sugarplum could be any hard candy after all! who knew?!? "A sugar plum originated as a piece of dragée or hard candy made of hardened sugar in a small round or oval shape. "Plum" in the name of this confection does not always mean plum in the sense of the fruit of the same name, but commonly refers to small size and spherical or oval shape." from Wikipedia
In the UK marzipan is used to coat fruit cake before the icing goes on also you can get marzipan sweets. You can also get crystalized edible flowers.
Wow that sound delicious! 😋 we tried to find candied/crystallized flowers but they didn’t have them where we are 😢. Thanks for watching!! 😆😆
I grew up with the version of Spanish specifically representing hot chocolate over general chocolate. Speaking of hot chocolate, I enjoyed a nice homemade cup while watching this video.
Both interpretations are valid! Ur making us want some hot chocolate now lol 😂thanks for watching!! ✨
You two are adorable. I love your sense of humor and the way you mix Nutcracker history with your assessment of the snacks, tea, and coffee. ❤
hmm, for a first intro to coffee, a coffee-flavored treat would probably have worked best like a mocha cake or tiramisu or even coffee ice cream
See that would’ve been a better idea lol 😂😂
The goose running around with them... 🤣
Have a good holiday season!
A menace to society 😂😂 happy holidays to you too!! ✨✨
@@balletreign I'm still hoping for the goose ballet. 😊
@@kerriemckinstry-jett8625 Goose Lake and Jemima Puddle Goose? 🤔
I think it would be really fun to see more videos outside of your house like this one! It had a different vibe and I loved it so much.❤
I love watching you all!!! I would love to see you react to some different Nutcracker productions! Merry Christmas!
Thanks sm!! We appreciate ur request 👍🏻. Merry Christmas and happy new year! ✨✨
💖💖💖💖 this was so wholesome and such a special Christmas treat! Jordan talking about the playdoh truth made me laugh so much. Wishing you both a Merry Christmas 🥰✨️🕊🎄
Jordan was a wild child 😂😂. Thanks so much, we’re glad u enjoyed this holiday special 😄😄 merry Christmas to you too!! ✨✨
Chocolate and marzipan are my favorites, and sometimes they come together! Marzipan (mazapán) in Spain doesn’t usually have bitter almonds, so you don’t have the medicinal taste, but it’s also delicious, it’s a Christmas sweet. Love, Sol
Ahhhh bitter almonds def explain the medicinal taste… thanks for the insight! Even so we still enjoyed it and will def be trying different marzipan treats. Thank you for watching ✨❤️
In the UK we have crystallised ( sugared) violets and rose petals in the baking section of spme supermarkets, as they are used to decorate cakes and chocolates. They would be perfect for Waltz of the Flowers.
Dentist: What have you done to your teeth?
Nutcracker: I crack nuts. And sweets.
Dentist: Interesting. Where do you work?
Nutcracker: In Ballet.
Dentist: Oookaayy (whirring sound of a drill).
HAHAHAHA 😂😂
absolutely delightful video! merry xmas all the ballet nerds who celebrate!!!
Thank you sm and merry Christmas to all! ✨✨
Since I’m sick, wrapped in my blanket eating some chicken and lemon soup and some tea. This came just in time.
Aww do take care! We were glad to snack with u today, we hope u feel better soon ❤️✨ (ngl ur chicken soup sounds rlly good 😄😄)
I find it incredible you didn't have marzipan before! Here (central Europe) there are little fruits or animal shapes made with it, it was one of my favourite things to get as a child!
Wow it seems we’ve been living in a hole somewhere 😂 everyone seems to have had it except us!!
Very few North Americans know what marzipan is or have eaten it. British people seem to know what it is and like to eat it. I think they only have it in the form of individual chocolates that come in a box of assorted chocolates though.
@@balletreign no, don't worry, it's not common at all in North America!
They keep marzipan in the baking aisle of grocery stores where I live (Mid-Atlantic U.S.)- also the grocery chain Aldi has lots of marzipan confections and pastries around this time of year.
I know the video is over, but for flowers, you really have to try candied violets sometime.
I can't believe you left the coffee so long to taste... it's probably a dark roast, especially if you got a latte, and if you reheated it, that can increase the burnt taste. But there are so many different kinds of coffee, with lots of different roasting levels, bitterness levels (the darker the roast, the more bitter), and preparations. You might prefer a lighter roast, for example! I don't actually drink coffee anymore, but just want to say, don't swear off coffee based on that one experience.
Happy holidays!
where does one even get candied violets?! they don't grow where i live so i'm sure there aren't any here. but rose petals (if not sprayed with pesticides and such), butterfly pea and nasturtium are edible flowers
This year, in my ballet company's production of the nutcracker we actually took more on the candy side of the land of sweets! So we actually had caramel instead of coffee. For tea, we had teacups and saucers. Chocolate was ballet folklorico dance. Marzipan was a carousel with horses and a maypole. Instead of polichinelles we had bon bon ginger bread girls who came out of a shoe. We did candy canes with hoop tricks. It was really cool to see you guys taste the different sweets 😋 ❤ I love your content!
The bon bon girls coming out of a shoe sounds like so much fun!😄
We used to have Marzipan shaped like fruits every Christmas when I was a kid in the 1960's and 70's, but I haven't seen any in a long time. I think that snack isn't common anymore. My nieces grew up in Hawaii, and their dad was Asian, so they introduced me to the salted plums (Li hing mui, which they pronounce lee-hee-moy). They LOVE them, but for me, they definitely took getting used to. They grow on you. I'll have to try a sweet plums some day. Coffee also takes getting used to, it'll grow on you. Coffee is my most favorite thing in the entire world, and there are so many kinds. It sounds like your barista didn't give you a nice smooth coffee for a first-timer. There are some that aren't very bitter at all, or smokey like a campfire. Fun video about Nutcracker goodies! Happy Holidays to you.
Thanks for sharing ur favorite snacks! Kinda wish we knew abt marzipan when we were little, would be been so fun 😆😆 thanks for watching todayyy 😁😁
They sell those and other shapes at Cost Plus World Market!
Another winner! I enjoyed this thoroughly. Thank you
Thank you for snack hunting with us!! 😆😆
Your bopping is so cute 🥺
Good times. Merry Christmas to you both!!!
Merry Christmas to u too!! ✨✨
Marzipan is the best! America grows lots of almonds, but in Germany they use it in almost all Christmas treats. One really nice German combination is gingerbread cake with marzipan.
How did you survive a childhood without marzipan? We got marzipan piglets for Christmass every year.
We had never heard of it til we danced the nutcracker and never tasted it til doing this video! We need a childhood do-over lol 😂
Yes, that does indeed call for a complete reboot.
Marzipan is cult. I make my own marzipan. More almonds and less sugar. I never get to make enough to last over Christmass. My friends always find my stash@@balletreign
heard of marzipan since i was a kid but we don't have almonds so i only got to try it when someone brought in imported marzipan
it's not really the yule season until the marzipan pigs and marzipan potatoes come out
I have always wanted to try it, but I’m allergic to almonds 😞 but omg marzipan piglets sound SO cute!
This video came out when I was at the Nutcracker haha
NO WAY 😂 how was the show??
It was SO GOOD! I saw ALL of my friends from the company in good roles at one show, and got to go out to lunch with them after between the shows :D Also I had to pause the video to raid my kitchen for coffee hot chocolate and salted chocolate caramels. I forgot it was even saturday btw until I saw this video was out hahaha Happy Nutcracker Season @@balletreign
@K0nt4kt that’s wonderful, so glad you were able to support ur friends in the nutcracker! Thanks for snacking with us 😋😋 and happy nutcracker season 🎄✨
For the coffee, since I love drinking it, I feel the warm and flavors of coffee really comes through with the music.
For the tea, I was thinking if it was a spiced tea maybe that could work with how some of the colors are used in the costumes and I feel black and spiced teas just perk me up and ready to start my day just right. But boba tea is definitely more on point with how the music is.
Peppermint is the best.
Marzipan is so pretty in person.
Flowers: well I found out my local Whole Foods does sell edible flowers packaged. But I do love hibiscus and rose, I have eaten them before.
I love the dogs 😩
Thanks for the excellent episode! You should have bought two ginger bread men :))))! Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to everyone! 😊
Haha thank you so much!! Merry Christmas! ✨✨✨
Marzipan can also be found in like, Italian specialty stores a lot of the time (specifically marzipan fruits, which are basically just the marzipan paste colored and shaped into fruit shapes)
Watching you makes me remember my own girls when they were young. Thank you, that's my Christmas present. oh, and marzipan! My grandpa used to bring it to me. I hated the stuff, but I was only 4.
My mom always bought the salted plums. Definitely nostalgic! And the face you’d make if it was suuuuuuuper sour 😳😖😵💫😵💫😵
I’ve only ever been in flowers 🌺 but have ALWAYS wanted to do snow ❄️ 🤷🏻♀️
THE FACEEEEEE 😂😂😂😂😂
Snow is the funnest part to dance, the music is LIFFEEE ❄️❄️
Such flowery fun! Thanks, Ladies.😊
Thanks for joining today!! ✨😁😁
Marzipan is my favorite and I just can't get enough of it. There's an international market by my house that sells it and I go there all the time.
Wow that’s sounds amazing!! We wanna try some w candy/chocolate now 😋😋
@@balletreignit's sooo good and the international market has a brand De La Rosa and that one is peanut based instead of hazelnut.
This video was Delightful/10! I really enjoyed it. Merry Christmas Jordan and Eden. 🎅
Omg we love that thank u smmm 😆😆 merry Christmas to u too! ❤️
You are both just so adorable and such good sisters! I can’t wait to see you dance!!! Homemade marzipan is so incredibly yummy!!! There is also a candy that has a violet in the middle.
Haha thanks so much 😆😆. We def enjoyed the marzipan, and are curious about violet candies… it has flowers in it so it’s gotta be good 😂
I can’t express how much I love this video! 😅
All my favorite things in one place. So cozy 💕
Aww!! Thank you! So glad u enjoyed snacking with us 😋😋
@@balletreign 🤩🤩😄😁
I always love your outfits! can you guys do a video talking about your style and your favorite pieces?
I'm Colombian so I grew up with coffee from the moment my parents let me have it, but there are so many different types of roasts. I will never have coffee without milk, and my preferred is cappuchino. It takes experimenting, but you might find some milder roasts that will be less bitter. Also, marzipan can be so overwhelming sometimes, I like it best in Stollen, where it has small doses.
Personally I rate this video a flowery/ 10 ahah 💌
AWW THANKS 😆😆💐
Even when I was a kid I figured I'd be a coffee person. Never liked tea. Now I like some herbal tea, the fruity stuff.
Not having anything exciting for a snack, just some chicken soup because I have a cold and am feeling down.
So your video is a pick-me-up.
Chicken soup is delicious! Thanks for snacking with us. We rlly hope u get well soon, sending love and good ballet nerd vibes 😁😁✨🫰🏻
This video is the perfect watch to kick off my Christmas Day!
AWW thanks for spending ur Christmas morning with us!! WLY and hope ur having a wonderful day w the ones u love ✨✨
What s sweet Christmas treat and fun to watch! Merry Christmas! (;
Thanks for watching!! Merry Christmas 😄😄✨✨
It will of course be interesting to find out which of these candy roles that you two sweeties would be cast in.
I hear from my pets, that they miss Ballet Reign food bowls in different sizes I have dogs in all sizes form 65 kg to 7 kg, and 4 cats. All fans.
Pets do make the best ballet nerd buddies 😂 We’ll definitely consider Ballet Reign pet food bowls, thanks for sharing about your pets. Give them hugs from us! 🎁♥️
Done, and a happy new year from all 20 dogs and 4 cats and from me too of course@@balletreign
Love your videos, and this one was especially sweet. Coffee is an acquired taste for sure, probably just as well you stick with tea.
Aww thanks for snacking with us! we may just be tea people forever lol 😂
Just watching this after seeing the nutcracker!
What perfect timing! 😂😂
I love watching yall drink coffee for the first time!!! Heehee tool me years to get used to now im addicted. Next year try Cost Plus for your treats! All sorts of Marzipan treats, I'm sure they'll have gingerbread. Not sure about the sugared flowers im thinking a specialty bakery for those. I agree with you about the Chinese tea music. This is why I think ot aligns more with ribbon candy.... I've seen it called that and the dancers use ribbons. Although we associate ribbon candy with Europe, i guess a similar candy was crrated in China centuries ago, so Ill stick with that image!
aww way too cute! cant believe you guys havent had coffee :P hehe i cannot function without it, yikes!
Old aunt Eden 👵🏼😂😂😂
Very old indeed 😂😂
You live in a box?? 🎁📦🍱
Off-topic, but your hair gleams so nicely in the sunlight!
3:35 and 8:40 What are the titles of these music pieces, please?
Your video editor is absolutely brilliant! I figure it is probably somebody other than the two of you, because they included the part about Eden singing that very cute song (was this ad-libbed? If so, Eden is a genius!) and then the words "fight me :-) " flashed on the screen.
The running goose (ha!) theme + honk sound effect are such a nice touch! 🪿
Marzipan is used in many German Christmas treats! (I left a more detailed description in a reply to this comment.)
The gingerbread that Germans eat is lighter and more airy than the dense consistency we have in North America. It's called "Lebkuchen" - they are usually chocolate-covered or glazed treats.
The Dutch have delicious spiced cookies, which are more similar to North American gingerbread. They are called "Speculaas."
Highly recommend you try these German and Dutch confections! They tend to be available in major chain supermarkets these days and many European delis stock them as well.
Or you can just go to Europe!
Yeah, coffee does not improve with age. Tim Hortons used to have commercials that they brewed a fresh pot every 20 minutes so that no customer would ever be served stale coffee. So that staleness might be part of why Jordan didn't like the taste. But it is normal to have the taste linger in the mouth even when it is fresh. It was very brave of both of you to try coffee for the first time! 🤩
Thank you very much for taking us along on your Nutcracker Suite Sweets Safari! 🍭🍫
Very merry Christmas to all of you 🩰Ballet 🌧️Reign 🦌Dears, your family and your friends, and your subscribers and viewers, who should definitely become subscribers! 🙏🎁🎄⛄️🎶🧸💫
Marzipan! This seems to be more well-known in the UK than in North America. There are disputes as to its actual origin, but the Baltics are a center of production. The German city of Lübeck is very proud of its authentic marzipan (guaranteed 2/3 almonds).
There are different candy types available, which are usually chocolate-covered. There's also uncovered (?) marzipan usually formed into cute shapes. My fave is pigs! 🐽
"Stollen" is roughly equivalent to English Christmas pudding in that they are cake-adjacent, contain candied fruit and raisins, and are aged for ideally four weeks before eating.
English Christmas pudding is very dense and Stollen less so, although more than North American cake. Stollen are cut like a loaf of bread.
Store-bought Stollen often contains a marzipan core - a strip of marzipan throughout the middle of the Stollen.
Unfortunately, I can't eat these treats anymore, but I am spreading the word so that others can enjoy them!! 💕🪿🎄🎁⛄️🙏
THANK UUUU we were glad to have u on our snack safari! 😆😆
3:35 is the dance of the parents from the party scene from the nutcracker and 8:40 is the grandfather dance also from the same scene. That other tune is an Eden Original 😂
Thanks for sharing ur experience on these treats! Didn’t know much about marzipan prior to this video but we’ve learned a lot thru the comment section! Would be willing to give coffee another go too 😅
Merry Christmas and wishing u many tasty holiday treats ✨❄️
@@balletreignOops, I forgot to thank you for the music titles!! Thank you! Hope the new year has started swimmingly for you! 😄🎶🎭🪩⛄️🥂
Watched my granddaughter go from mouse to sugarplum fairy!! How many shows are that? 20-5 = 15!!! Lucky grandma 🫶🏼💕🫶🏼
Marzipan goes way, way back in Medieval Europe - they used to sculpt it into fancy shapes and colors. Here in Brooklyn, you can find it in your average mega-grocery store. Very nice option for people with gluten issues, and of course you can pretend it's healthy because almonds, you know....
Almondsss hahaha 🤣🤣🤣
In my ballet, we have ginger snaps (who are like 6 year old little girls who are supposed to be gingerbread people) who do cartwheels and other tricks. they come out of a gingerbread house. they use to come out of motherginger but the person who did it has knee problems and no long do it 😢. there also cooks who are cooking them...... that just a little dark
Ladies, see if you can obtain Niederegger marzipan chocolates. Made in Germany, they are considered to be the finest - an absolute treat.
Oooohh we will have to see if we can get some! We are def interested in trying more marzipan 👍🏻✨
For flowers you could eat vanilla
Or chives
I need someone who loves me as much as Eden loves chocolate
This was such a cute video I loved it so much! Also, can't believe you've NEVER had coffee before?!?!
lol guess we were too scared to try it 😂 thanks for snacking w us! ✨✨
You can find marzipan at a regular grocery store in the baking aisle. I just finished eating sugarplums that I made a big batch of for Christmas. I had never had them before.
That’s so amazing, we’d love to try sugarplums one day. Sounds delicious!
I love the Japanese sour plum boiled sweets😋
Ooh we’re curious to try these, sounds so good 😊
@@balletreign Have you had the Salted Sour Plums? I love them - they're sooo weird!! 🤣 🤣
I thought it was Russain toffee! But i think you guys would know a little better than me on this stuff 😊
I hope those sugared prunes were worth it, because that isn't what sugar plums actually mean in the ballet. Sugar plums are hard sugar balls, often coating a nut, especially almond. They're particularly popular as wedding favours, in all sorts of pastel colours. The Sugar Plum fairy in the French version is called La Fée Dragée, and dragée is the French name for these sugar sweets. The variation makes a bit more sense if you think about pale pink sugar-covered almonds.
Eden I love your top/jacket/sweater. Can you share where you got it?
I’m catching up on your videos. Do you two show your dancing skills? I can’t seem to find either of you dancing? I think I heard in one video you teach? Did you give up dancing? I’m sorry but I’m just getting know you and love your videos. They calm me down 😊♥️ thank you…you two are beautiful ladies…this was a cute idea! Michigan 👋🏻😊
Was that really marzipan because it looked like almondpaste to me. I mean one is made from the other but...
It’s a pretty cool treat! 😆😆
Almond paste contains less sugar and it tastes better, Mix a few drops of bitter almond into it , and hurry eating it before your friends get wind of it!
Excuse me while I get my Jaffa Cakes to snack on... 🎄
Delicious 😆😆 thanks for snacking w us!!
When I was very young, maybe as young as 3, my parents bought me an LP record of Captain Kangaroo (a tv host of a long-running children's show) presenting the Nutcracker. There were lyrics attached to this recording, and for as long as I can remember, when I hear the Nutcracker music, some of these lyrics come back to me, and I sing along. Mostly I do remember the lyrics for the Russian Dance; and the March of the Toy Soldiers has also stayed with me. Lo and behold, YT has a reproduction of it, which I've downloaded for old time's sake: ruclips.net/video/AbKxekGnZUo/видео.html
When I was about seven, my parents bought me an LP recording of the Boston Pops recording of Swan Lake selections, so Tchaikovsky has been an enduring and beloved presence in my life, thanks to my attentive family!
So I have to comment because I've been obsessed with the sweets in Balanchine's Nutcracker since I was a kid -- Mother Ginger is actually a representative of a box/tin, and the polichinelles were meant to be bonbons, is my understanding! You also, I believe, could have found various marzipan treats at World Market that may have treated you better than the dough from the baking aisle of Krogers. Maybe next time? 😅
I also want to encourage you to give coffee another shot! Maybe in a latte form, or a cafe mocha? I highly recommend trying a bean that is Light or Blonde Roast, as it tastes way less bitter. It just also has the most caffeine, so beware!
I'm Chinese, and when I first got into the Nutcracker and I read the libretto, I was a little bummed. Chinese TEA?? That's our version of a 'sweet'?? I remember telling my Mom I was a bit bummed. Nothing with Plums? Ginger? (pouts) Ah well. Love you guys!
So true! LOL Thanks for sharing 😂
I'm with Jordan. The smell of coffee is much better than the taste.
How have you guys never drunk coffee???!!
Out of allegiance to the tea 🍵 😂
But do you know that the names of the dance were originally just russian, arabian etc. in other production the names come from things that these countries were famous for.
You have to drink better coffee 😂
😂😂
