My family has been away from Ireland since the "potato famine" when they immigrated to the U.S. My parents have both now passed away to be with Christ and when I hear songs like this, it makes me long for the land of my ancestors. I just started a new job in hospice. I'm a social worker. We Are Messengers is my favorite band, so I came here for comfort after a patient passed today. I've decided to honor each patient death with this song, and it will serve as my method of paying respect and expressing my grief. TY WAM. God, please watch over the sick and suffering. Amen.

What do the lyrics mean, "that I should rise and you should not"? Is it condemning those whom he just spoke of (comrades and sweethearts)? It's a bit disturbing that one line. I hope I'm getting it wrong.
