This is a song about the tragedy of the Highland Clearances. Appropriate video might have been preferable.

@@fascinationmusic Hiya. This is a tragic song about widows and children leaving Scotland after being burned out of their homes. Many of Jim McLeans songs cover the highland clearances. We have just released a 4 CD Box Set plus a songbook with 60 ‘McLean’ songs and we have a concert at Celtic Connections based entirely on his songs. He is very concerned that his songs might not be fully understood. A video showing the burning of homes, deportation to foreign lands etc. would have complemented your singing and helped explain the lyrics. As Jim says, at least you named him and he appreciates that. He also points out that you sing ‘cowered’ but the correct word is ‘cowed’. A very minor point but song writers can be nippy people some times.
I hadn’t read your brief history because I didn’t realise it was there. By the way, this is not a major criticism, more a comment.

@@fraserbruce7916 Hi , I appreciate your detailed comment and reply ,
There are already quite a few videos on youtube which show the kind of content you suggest
My idea was the video would create a feeling of tension / being hunted / unease,
plus compliment the lyrics, and contempary musical arrangement .
I was trying something a bit different from the more traditional approach,
which possibly , may introduce the song to a younger generation , who would maybe otherwise , not give it a chance.
My apologies on the misheard lyric
If you want to provide a link to the boxset , I am happy to include it in the video info .
